In my humble opinion, the live version of this at California Jam II is the absolute best recording. It is available remasterd on "The Essential Santana".
@Novaboing Hmmm. but some times the scratchy some times black and white videos help to bring back memories of the days when the music was made. I remember when CD's 1st came out and the sound was just to clean. Ever since all sorts of noise generators have been used to make some music sound less mechanical. The live lip sinking in the early days was better then now.
It is awesome to see Santana playing the congas! I saw him many times yet one of my favorite performances was at the Mesa Amphitheater in Mesa, Arizona. He essentially played the Moonflower album song for song. Of course Dance Sister Dance was one of the songs he played. It was many years ago yet seeing a great video like this one makes it seem like yesterday!
@1Rosshole In some of the early videos they all play percussion. Gregg Role and even the bass play Dave Brown play percussion. All the percussion plays also do the backing singing live in some videos. I am sure there is a goldmine of unreleased early live footage still to come.
Santana is one of the greatest guitar players ever, hes very good at playing live,he got a lot of experience at Woodstock and after that, playing live was something that he enjoyed very much.
This is my favorite Santana tune. The second part of the song is really what "rhytm flowing into your soul" is all about. Although Carlos playing the congas is amazing, but the actual guitars which are in this version done by the synthesizers (i guess) is kickass. Celebration of the human soul. Thats it.
The first ever Simulcast. "Sight & sound in concert". Live on BBC2 & BBc radio(I think - 2) early one saturday evening. I watched this as an amazed 14 year old & have never been the same since ! The whole gig was excellent - but this was the trackthat did it for me. Pure heaven.
Yes Carlos plays the Drums and he is badass!! He is one of the greastest guitar players,If not the greatest guitar player, but he is a great person too!! I love him!! Not in a gay way,,lol I'm a guitar player and he inspired me 30 years ago!! actually,,35 years ago!! OK,,,lol,,, I'm Old?? lol I don't think so!!!!! You have to love Carlos! The whole group are so tight!!!!! Tom Coster needs mention too!! TY!!!!

Wow! Superb performance.
Carlos was on fire for that solo.
Sounds like some of the performance was used for the Moonflower album, perhaps with some re-dubs?
I've always loved that tune....Thanks for posting
