They should have not involved any mention of UNIT until they are rescued by UNIT. It was too obvious.... that T-REX....came back in the Goodies a year later. Time didn't age it well.
If they want to redo the special effects all theyd need to do is hire the puppets from the Walking With Dinosaurs stage show to shoot some live action footage with to put over the old effects.
Re: special effects. You must remember that they had no money or technology. What I loved about the old Dr.Who is that they knew that they couldn't get the specia;l effects right, but what the hell, we'll do it anyway and SOD OFF to future tosser generations who have everything on a CGI plate!!
@blowfish3 There have been rumors that the DVD release will have CGI Dinosaurs. But that won't happen until they colorize episode 1; hopefully they can use the same method they used to restore "Planet Of The Daleks 3".
