These cars average 15-16 city/24-25 highway. That is not so great.

I believe pontiac was competing with like the 540i, 550i with this car which average around 16-18 mpg. Infiniti M45= 18MPG Merc E550 = 16. (from fuel economy.gov)

Theres a lot of differences under the surface. G8 is RWD, different transmission (including a 6 speed manual option for the GXP), different engine options, and a whole lot more aftermarket support because of the use of LS engines. I have a GTP Comp G (and I love it) but the G8 is one badass car! Check out my videos racing in my GTP.

When you say 60+ HP, im guessing you're comparing the G8 GT to the GP GXP (303 vs 361)? GP GXP's were $28,xxx MSRP. a 2008 G8 GT was $29,995. how are you saying that the G8 GT is 20K more? Even comparing the GP GT with the 3800 is only about 5-7k difference compared to the G8 GT depending on options.
GPs are cool cars, but there are many difference between the two, that's for sure.

My cousin rode in one with an STS turbo kit @ 6 psi. It runs a 11.9 with all other components stock. Dyno @ 520hp and 580tq. Too bad that costs about $5K. But on the other hand it's still an everyday driver and gets 20 some mpg....until you floor it.
It was a brand new stock car at the time. new tires, 100+ degrees so there's not going to be any spinning. Now that i have a few bolt on mods and 25k on the tires and some cooler weather, the tires are much easier to blow off down low. Don't really have traction issues at the track though.
Oh yea I was just curious because my car is FWD and only has a bit over 200 HP and it will bark the tires up to about 30 MPH, but then again they are about half way worn and the temperature around here is normally never over the high 70s LOL

I have a G8 GT also, i've not pushed it that high on a regular road but once I was over 100 I remember it made me miss my 2009 ZX14. Once you hit 100 on that this and you peg'd the throttle, it would still almost throw you off the bike.

Yes, they are. And it's very common because of the amount of space there is to put numbers. And the 5 increments are there mainly because speed limits are usually 45, 55, etc. If you'r going 100+ MPH, you probably could care less about uncle sam though, hehehe :).
Ok, I rode in one the other day, and I noticed that the MPH thing was illuminated like it could be changed, because I know GM does that with a few of its other products.
The centre electronic gauge can be changed with programming.
The whole G8 can be changed from LH drive to RH drive quite easily (compared to other vehicles). Have a look at the dash, it has 3 separate bits that can be swapped over.
I do like the front ends on these cars. Looks nice
you are correct...and its not the only car that does that from GM. my dad has a 98 Seville that does just that. Press a button and the needle will move to the proper km/h mark

I own a G8 GT. The entire panel can be changed from English to metric, even on the go. The 'MPH' becomes 'KPH' and the needle adjusts. The thermostat and outside thermometer also change, as does the odometer.
137 mph is the governed top speed.... no-limiter and it1' power and drag limited to about 153.... The G8 GXP is governed at 155, and without it it'll do 175....

check oil, air filter, shifting habits (1st,2nd,3rd,4th,5th,6th or 1st,2nd,6th...ect) other than that it could be something in the engine cuz my 2004 dodge ram hemi 1500 is making 18mpg city 23mpg hwy with dual aeroturbine 3030exhaust and superchip cortex on 91octane performance tune if its on Mileage XS saver i get 20mpg city and 25mpg hwy but i prefer speed over miles per gallon lol but it doesnt sacrifice much either
you can use superchips, i reccomend not going crazy with that because in a way it protects your engine, set it at 190mph and youll get to about maybe say 176mph top speed (im talking about the GXP) the setting is always different from actual speed meaning the car (lets say you mod it) is capable of doing upto 190mph controlled-stock it lets you top off but more than likely you wont hit 190 bone stock.
Not sure why the G8 has a speed limiter at 138mph. The Holden Commodore SS happily goes over 250kph (155mph). On a track of course! Are you sure he didn't just run out of road?
simple answer, speed rating of the tires on the car, maybe not on the optional wheels or something like that, but one set of tires that comes on it fromt he factory has a speed rating of 138 or close
not really, there are all diffent speed ratings for tires, H rated tires are good for 130 MPH V rated tires are good for 149, there are many others, but those are the only two I know off hand the exact speed they are rated for, and those are teh US tires, considering this is an austrailan car, who knows what speed ratings their tires have. much like the 04-06 GTO the G8 comes straight from austraila with the only modification being basic body pannels and left hand drive instead of right

The speed limiter is an adjustable number in the computer, and with the right equipment (tuner) you can change that value to as high as you want, or remove it completely.
Some G8's are able to do well into 180 miles per hour, with mods of course. Some could probably do faster.

Ok, I rode in one the other day, and I noticed that the MPH thing was illuminated like it could be changed, because I know GM does that with a few of its other products.

The centre electronic gauge can be changed with programming.
The whole G8 can be changed from LH drive to RH drive quite easily (compared to other vehicles). Have a look at the dash, it has 3 separate bits that can be swapped over.
I do like the front ends on these cars. Looks nice

you are correct...and its not the only car that does that from GM. my dad has a 98 Seville that does just that. Press a button and the needle will move to the proper km/h mark

I own a G8 GT. The entire panel can be changed from English to metric, even on the go. The 'MPH' becomes 'KPH' and the needle adjusts. The thermostat and outside thermometer also change, as does the odometer.

137 mph is the governed top speed.... no-limiter and it1' power and drag limited to about 153.... The G8 GXP is governed at 155, and without it it'll do 175....

check oil, air filter, shifting habits (1st,2nd,3rd,4th,5th,6th or 1st,2nd,6th...ect) other than that it could be something in the engine cuz my 2004 dodge ram hemi 1500 is making 18mpg city 23mpg hwy with dual aeroturbine 3030exhaust and superchip cortex on 91octane performance tune if its on Mileage XS saver i get 20mpg city and 25mpg hwy but i prefer speed over miles per gallon lol but it doesnt sacrifice much either

you can use superchips, i reccomend not going crazy with that because in a way it protects your engine, set it at 190mph and youll get to about maybe say 176mph top speed (im talking about the GXP) the setting is always different from actual speed meaning the car (lets say you mod it) is capable of doing upto 190mph controlled-stock it lets you top off but more than likely you wont hit 190 bone stock.

Not sure why the G8 has a speed limiter at 138mph. The Holden Commodore SS happily goes over 250kph (155mph). On a track of course! Are you sure he didn't just run out of road?

simple answer, speed rating of the tires on the car, maybe not on the optional wheels or something like that, but one set of tires that comes on it fromt he factory has a speed rating of 138 or close

not really, there are all diffent speed ratings for tires, H rated tires are good for 130 MPH V rated tires are good for 149, there are many others, but those are the only two I know off hand the exact speed they are rated for, and those are teh US tires, considering this is an austrailan car, who knows what speed ratings their tires have. much like the 04-06 GTO the G8 comes straight from austraila with the only modification being basic body pannels and left hand drive instead of right

not possible if somone were to take the speed limiter out it wouldnt leave first gear. its a saftey feature so it wont screw up the computer. however the limiter will allow slightly above 138 but it will bounce back, much like the speed limiter on a quad

When I said "taken out," I meant replaced or reprogrammed. I have accelerated to 150 mph, that is more than just a bounce.

That is not true. I don't know where you got that information.
The speed limiter is an adjustable number in the computer, and with the right equipment (tuner) you can change that value to as high as you want, or remove it completely.
Some G8's are able to do well into 180 miles per hour, with mods of course. Some could probably do faster.

Pontiac's are great cars, youre right. With Cadillac, its nothing but style and expense. You don't see nobody drag racing an expensive car. Only luxurious.
Ford, if youre an older person basically, only sports car is the Mustang.
Buick, if youre an older person and have alot of money.
Chevrolet, has a good balance of cars.
Speed and Performance is Pontiac, hands down!!

I like how the Average Gas mileage went DOWN as you were driving it. Haha these cars are sexier than Eva Longoria in red lingerie. Actually I take that back, Tony Parker is the luckiest man out there (except that he is French) He plays a sport for as living and he has her? All he needs is a g8, and maybe a GTO for the weekends.

raced one in my 93 civic with jdm gsr stock running 7 psi boost. my civic has 261.1 whp and a eran a 14.1 at the track on street tires. i raced a g8 gt today. he put up a fight but i still had him by about 4 or 5 cars at 120mph. props on a stock pontiac

i just bought a maroon g8 gt a week ago and i gotta tell you guys that this car is a very very good overall car. it hauls ass and it has a bunch of room for your buddies.....and everyone loves the look. i dont care if its an austrailian car, it performs great and gets AMAZING gas mileage. i live in Los Angeles county and i was driving to downtown 65mph on cruise control getting 26 to the gallon. beat that
