i hate people who say there baked because over 3/4 of them are lying just like dumbass sheridanproductions and all you dumb mother fuckers like that dumbass comment your all clueless!! :)
Don't mean to be a bummer or anything but.... I think maybe the lyrics might be wrong. Yes! That is my favorite picture of them. I would love to find a large copy of it. My favorite picture of Jack Kerouac is him holding a cat in his hands.
@InsideMyOpinion I was committing myself to a mini-essay to try and convey how the song affected me. I don't always think too intricately on song lyrics, but these would struck me a certain way.

@omfgitsbroken everything you just said was brilliant. music is the guide of north america. i dont wanna hate but rap is the most popular genre and look whats happened. no one can even understand bands like MGMT anymore. its a shame
this world, if you must cultivate the mind, the spirit, and the soul. And we must always cultivate the soul. alot of you may think im just rambling, but this country this world is going down, if we speak up if were not to lazy maybe because were bored something may get done, dont let human nature get in your way, the money, the cars the property, things that dont really matter dont give up but dont be hasty in america we wanted things to change quickly, we see where this ends up and even if you
back when they had to tell people what was right and what was wrong because even back then things were turning corrupt, they made a book for this, they called it the bible, other countrys have had buhda, ghandi, the dahlii llama, spiritual guides. i like to believe ours in america are people like mgmt, the doors, pink floyd, zeppelin, king crimson, bob marley; ect thats real art the expression and emotion you can feel, tune out the lyrics feel the sounds these artist use, thats something out of
love how this is the perfect song about western humanity and just human nature "Evil is i" instead of using a bow now a gun "was i? too lazy to play or paint or make a change" just going with society's materialistic ways the start of losing expression of what life is about, instead of doing what animals are suppose to do, we choose to use our brains, our curse develop technology to make us lazy, to kill us quickly, too many people have lost sight on how to live unfortunately far before our time
@adamoct11 Atleast I'm not a socially inept teenager who must use desperate internet trolling as a form of gathering attention he could never find in the real world. Who uses cyber bullying as a form of revenge towards against the very society which ostracized him, a pathetic outcast hiding behind the tough guy mask of internet anonymity. Which I'm willing to bet you are, which is why "I ain't even mad", no raging here my friend, only pity. Take care and enjoy the music :)
This song will always remind me of the first time I got high, my friend was on a big MGMT binge when he introduced me to weed. So MGMT and weed sort of came hand in hand when I smoked with him. So now whenever I hear this song it takes me back to those days when I was just a noob when it came to pot :')
In conclusion, I personally interpreted the entire Oracular Spectacular album as a mournful but reflective take on the band's uneasy transition from spectacle to pure musicianship. There seems to be a motif of childhood nostalgia running through many of the songs (Time to Pretend, Weekend Wars, Kids, Future Reflections), with the last track (Future Reflections) seeming to describe the clairvoyant moments we have as a child on the brink of wisdom, foreseeing violent flashes of what's to come.
I don't know how to begin" (He laments the ways he was never able to express himself in a constructive way back when he rejected the traditional process of growing from a starry-eyed child to a responsible adult; He could not win because his ideas were beautiful, but chaotic and without definition. It expresses regret that he cannot fuse abandon and responsibility into one creative force)
"Try to break my heart I'll drive to Arizona. ... I'll sit and listen to the sound of sand and cold
Twisted diamond heart, I'm the weekend warrior
My predictions are the only things I have" (Heartbreak returns him to introspection and giving in to the weekend wars. However, through this simplification of his life he has found a crystallite clarity and a keen intuition)
And you might have to plan for the weekend wars" (This whole verse is essential; Here, Andrew implies that his adult expression has twisted into something dark and jaded, and he scoffs at the children that represents his essence)
"Where we can crush some plants to paint my walls,
And I won't try to fight in the weekend wars" (This to me talks about the mischief of childhood and the experimentation with everything you can get your hands on)
"Instant battle plans written on the sidewalk
Mental mystics in a twisted metal car" (Juxtaposition of childhood schemes and the adult psychedelic pneuma)
For me, it seems like the lyrics switch from the perspective of a child to that of an adult. The adult artist is striving to create music so he can avoid a dayjob (the weekend wars). At the same time, as the lyrics progress, his passion for songwriting and transcending reality begins to affect him, and he forgets the childlike wonder he felt and begins to alienate his past. The nostalgia of being too lazy to bathe, getting grounded, and plotting mock battles fades
Andrew's beauty distracts from the meaningfulness of his lyrics. I wish they'd have done the Gorillaz/Daft Punk thing :\ Great song regardless. I just feel like I can't enjoy the actual sound as much because I'm thinking about how he's so hawwtt...
@HoLyBuCkS So what are you trying to say exactly sir, I think your metaphor has escaped you.... Your ear ejaculated, but it wasn't erect so it wasn't quite able to get the semen to your ear drum, which has eggs and a womb apparently?
Or wait, we also have some pluralization issues. "earS had A boner"
So your two ears would hypothetically share a boner, from opposite sides of your skull, and they would get the collective ear drums pregnant, or perhaps bang one ear drum and then cheat on it?
I remembered when Congratulations was first released, and how people hated their "sudden change in sound." The problem I had with these critiques was that it was only based on the sounds given off by the "Big Three" (Time to Pretend, Electric Feel, and Kids), and people had overlooked that the rest of Oracular sounded much like how the second album was going to sound like. This song is an example of that sound.
@yourtogogo Dude, I know what you mean.I did not like this song at all when I first heard it, but now I love it. It gets better the more you listen. I find this is true with a lot of MGMT's songs, especially their new stuff.
i´m brazilian n i believe this guys listen some stuff of the songwriter RAUL SEIXAS, searching for him and you´ll know what im talking about. look for songs like "metamorfose ambulante" & "tente outra vez" i can hear similarites
@lilballerina Can you (or anyone else) help me figure out what John Lennon song it sounds like when he says "I can shoot a gun to kill my lunch." I think John Lennon and Guns n' Roses both have songs like that, but I can't remember what they're called.
@philnoll Hm... making working class hero? or civil war perhaps. sorry, those are the only ones i can think of at the moment but i'll let you know if anything comes to me :)
@lilballerina Yup, civil war is definitely the song. Thanks. But its not working class hero. It might be the song "God" that I'm thinking of. Also, the change at 0:59 makes me think of a song by cream? It might also be Donovan. Any thoughts?

Lilballerina:
You should listen to Time to Pretend, Electric Feel and Flash Delirium by them to if you haven't already. It's Working is also really good to.
And yes, I will have to agree. They just ooze fantabulocity and primal man-sexiness.

One of the best bands of our generation. And to think that becoming musical artists wasn't even their intention...

@lilballerina Can you (or anyone else) help me figure out what John Lennon song it sounds like when he says "I can shoot a gun to kill my lunch." I think John Lennon and Guns n' Roses both have songs like that, but I can't remember what they're called.

@philnoll Hm... making working class hero? or civil war perhaps. sorry, those are the only ones i can think of at the moment but i'll let you know if anything comes to me :)
lilballerina 11 months ago
@lilballerina Yup, civil war is definitely the song. Thanks. But its not working class hero. It might be the song "God" that I'm thinking of. Also, the change at 0:59 makes me think of a song by cream? It might also be Donovan. Any thoughts?

@BlaccBoii I don't think Luke Steele looks anything like AnVan... or do you just mean they're similar musically?

2:28-3:12 - in no way can that be human, that definitely has to be an angel singing.

@JesusBaked You have to watch the one video when high where it's got this song and it's got this moving tunnel rainbow thing....it's awesome. Not trying to spam but it's called 'watch this when you're stoned'
