You should type upgrade of an old asus eeepc or at least what type of netbook do you have there :) .. your video is useless .. everybody can change hdd with a cover lid that has two screws on it :) .. i´ve had to break the seal of mine asus that is right under the keyboard :)
@TapTapFreak most of them are limited to 2 GB only .. more expensive ones like some models with E350/450 can be upgraded to 4 gig .. however netbook will not use more than 3 or 4 atmost so dont bother. SSD helps a lot ... with overclocking through Brazos tweaker/ or setfsb and gma booster
If you know what's good for you, you will NOT upgrade any HDD to a SSD. I replaced my desktop system HDD with a puny, expensive 128 GB SSD and I am COMPLETELY ADDICTED to it now. I still use the HDDs for data storage, but all of my apps MUST go on SSDs from now on. I will probably end up paying 10x more for storage for the rest of my life.
Can anyone tell me why SSD remain so expensive, with technology evolving, newer technolgy is becoming more affordable towards cosumer user howerver SSD is the future, its smaller and more faster but damn to expensive. I only seen SSD on the higher end laptops, the more expensive ones. At the moments SSD can cost the price of a netbook or even laptop and the price isn't going to fall soon, if it was going to happen, would have happened by now.
Nice instructions, I'm going to buy a Asus netbook soon, and will upgrade it to 2gb, it only cost a tenner but SSD are to expensive. If you want to get 120gb, it cost more than half a netbook device. SSD has been on the market for years, most of the higher end netbook/notebook has them. I upgraded my sony laptop to 6gb ram however if SSD were cheap, would have replaced the HD as well. SSD needs to become cheaper but the price isn't falling.
Very cool, but as many people said ssd is more than what the netbook is worth, and considering my asus already gets hours of play, I don't know how worth it is. I am looking to get bigger HD and ram on mine,
So how do you get the win7 starter back on? Do you need to backup the hdd first? I ask because if u do this, and win7 isn't on the hdd anymore... what do you do? Do you need to rebuy win7 again? Or is it possible to reload win7 starter and use the win7 upgrade?
I would be interested in doing this, but wouldn't want to lose win7 starter (cuz the upgrade is a lot cheaper)
To those below who don't understand spending more than the netbook value on an SSD: Buying an SSD for a netbook as a replacement for the factory HDD shows different needs for the netbook itself. If you buy a netbook because you want a cheap, basic, portable computing device, then ignore this video. If you want a netbook for a device that is efficient (especially in regards to battery life/power consumption) and performs better (note I didn't mention price), this is for you
Wow now i don't know how smart it would be since the SSD is worth more then the computer but i'd love to see how fast the netbook would run after this nice upgrade and Win7 running!
exactly. the asus netbooks currently run around 350 and that ssd runs 375 at egg. for 725 you can get a damn nice laptop. the point of a net book is a: small and b: cheap
by upgrading the hdd you just threw cheap out the window and if small is that important to you and you obviously don't need a dvd drive because i have yet to see a netbook with one why not get a smartphone instead ? oh right the MASSIVE 11 inch screen... o wait i thought small was important
ram, no....but he's upgrading to an SSD (solid state drive) which uses very very little power thus increasing battery life and also giving the machine a nice performance boost.
@jigsawpk this is correct, there was a test study on Tom's Hardware, SSDs actually reduce battery life over HDDs of all those that they tested. Something to do with idle power states IIRC.
of course the price of the ssd and ram is more then the netbook itself...kind of counter productive really. although most of the same steps can be used with high end notebooks as well, which is far more likely to happen anyway.

Netbooks usually have one RAM slot right? And to how much GB is it possible to upgrade? Because 8GB.. would be pretty epic!

@TapTapFreak yes there are 8 gig modules

@frundeatt66 Some SSD comes with a hard drive encloser and a clonning software.
If your SSD does, put you hard drive in the encloser and use the clonning software to clone the HDD.

the question is, how to clone your old hdd which contain your data and ofc your OS and recovery data to SSD?

wondering how upgrading harddrive and RAM will increase battery life? it wouldnt.

@jigsawpk
Replacing any hard drive with and sdd will most likely reduce power consumption. However, replacing the ram is less likely to reduce power.

how does increasing it's drive and storage space increase the battery life?
m1a2s3o4n 2 years ago
With the newer SSDs, the power needed to use them is reduced by a good amount, allowing the netbook to use the extra battery life for something else.

That's pretty neat. But how do you (re)install the OS, or do you need to?

and now you must install the OS, all of your programs, your personal files and so on...

is it possible to change the hard drive of an Asus Eee PC 1005HA-P with a solid state drive?
chesterrrr 2 years ago
You'll want to check with your manufacturer (Asus) for the details, but most Asus Eee PC modules should upgrade in a similar fashion.
