  • how do you determine the weight it will be?

  • @Philjannasch Hi, each layer of CSM ( Chopped strand Matt) weighs 450g per sq metre, basically cut the pieces for Fibreglass to size, weigh them, say they weigh 400g, then you would use approximately 800g - 1kg of Resin, hope this helps.

  • Hi I'm a novice to fibre glassing and was just wondering by "catalyst" do you mean hardner? is it the same thing or something differant?

    Cheers fella

  • Hi, give us a call if you get in trouble, have you gave enough waxes and left them long enough between coats? The Gelcoat needs to Gel off within 20 minutes max on the 1st lift, as the styrene will attack the wax built up and this could cause a stick, they are many variables, please call or email us , thanks for watching, best rgds

Hope this helps Kind rgds ecfibreglassuk

  • @ecfibreglassuk

Do you let the gelcoat go off completely before applying the fibreglass? so it isnt a tack but completely gone off? the first layer of fibreglass is that being applied with gelcoat and resin?

  • @ecfibreglassuk

Thanks for your quick response and detailed information, I am now ready to set forth on my project with basic knowledge :) I was quite afraid of doing anything to my plug without detailed knowlege on the subject as i've spent countless hours constructing it and bondo-ing all sides/corners of my plug.

now all i have to do is find a supplier in Sweden Keep up the great videos :)

  • what is the polyester gel-coat for?

I plan on forming a mold for a 1 meter tall pyramid, but i dont own a spray gun, will using a paper towel to apply the pva work too?

also did you use any wax before you applied pva? is it necessary?

  • Hi The Gelcoat is applied to before your main fibreglass and resin laminate this becomes the finshed inside surface of the mould.

PVA can be applied lightly by sponge no wax is needed as long as sufficient PVA release agent is applied.however some time a little bit of wax ontop of a dried PVA can help release from delicate parts.

    Kind rgds
