2 people who deserved the Nobel more than anyone else are Carl Woese & George E Fox, discoverers of archaea (the third domain of life) based on 23S & 16S ribosomal RNA phylogeny - as Dr.Ramakrishnan says so beautifully "one should pursue what one loves in science & knowledge for its own sake - awards or not, thats what matters" - Woese and Fox 's work has applications in microbial community ecology to how they have evolved! classic fundamental/basic biology research!!

thought this guy had some class until he started talking about how his email was being spammed by Indians congratulating him and he started talking about him being some sort of a global citize. you ashamed of your indian origin venky? come to think of it- the ribosome structure was just a technical advancement, not an intellectual one- this is not like discovering pennicillin, so be humble. If anything, Noller deserved this as much as you did, so did many others. Nobel sucks.

I am not chasing him, so that ridiculous suggestion to 'leave him alone' does not count. He oozes class to you. To me, he lacks class. Did Amartya Sen make any such fuss when he got the Nobel? I am sure many people must have tried to earn the 'bragging rights' then as well. The difference being, Sen had class, he kept quiet. Also, if you're a biologist you'll know what sort of a technical achievement this is.
