Don't buy a Traeger!!! The used to be made in Oregon, then they got greedy and shipped everything to China. Makes me sick. Go for the Louisiana Grill. It's made in Canada, but at least that's still North America. Get any grill built in the USA!! They also have a bad auger/burn pot design. Several times I have had the pellets burn back in the auger tube into the hopper. Bad news.
How has the smoke flavor been on your Traegar. Coming from a log smoker I am skeptical on buying one since many have said the smoke taste is minimal. How have yours been with smoke flavor?
@Cletus32261 when I do mine in the Traeger I cook them at 275 for 90 mins then 20-30 mins wrapped in foil I put sauce, apple cider vinegar and a little more brown sugar on then. Then I take them out mop them with sauce, put them back in, turn off the smoker and let the residual heat create a lacquer on the ribs.
@Cletus32261 Typically you would do the 3-2-1 method for tender ribs. You smoke for 3 hrs, wrap in foil for 2 hrs and then another 1 or 2 hrs on the smoker unwrapped until they are done.
@11you11 The Traeger uses wood pellets that are feed to a fire pot using an auger, wood chips very to much in size. If you have a gas or charcoal grill then I would use wood chips. thanks for watching
great video man.. You're one of the reasons i bought a Traeger.. My name is Don from Newfoundland Canada and all i have to say is WOW.. I can't get enough of your recipes...
@jimkerr7 I so agree with you... NEVER boil. As @fallfly1 said, if that is desired, I would recommend using a beer brine base or mop instead. Reason is because boiling removes the meat juices (natural) flavors.
watching your vids are making me more relaxed on using my own Traeger grill. I am getting more confidant too. I can see that this is a learned art form. Will continue watching your vids for some good teachings. Thanks for showing this.
Look like some very tasty backs. Absolutey love my Traeger; use it all the time, for everything. Today it's fired up for some Apple City Baby Back Ribs, recipe from the Jamison cookbook "Smoke &Spice". I highly recommend this book for some great smoker recipes.
BTW, in addition to your ribs and the '69 in the garage, I'm also diggin' on the "Ballad of Dwight Frye" in the background tunes. Haven't heard that Cooper song in years...
Followed along, fire up on smoke, increase to 300, ribs on, back to smoke. 1st concern was when temp dropped to 157-160 after an hour at that setting. Increased to 180, temp now 205. On for 4 hours, foil for 2 at 275. Conclusion, flavor profile excellent, smoke ring excellent. Would like more bite to the meat. Reduce initial smoke time or time in foil. Thanks
im friends with the treagers.. my dad went to high school with them in Gervis Oregon back in the 70's.. they are great BBQ's i own a Junior(smalll tailgate grill) and a Lil' Tex.. Stellar bbqs my friend
Man, those ribs look great! I am concerned about one thing though. I don't see much smoke. How much smoke do these things put out? Could two of them smoke an old empty 225 gallon propane tank?
Brain have to compared the Traeger Smoker to the louisiana pellet smokers?? just wondering how they compare. i do the like the digital thermasta on yours, i didint see that on the louisiana brand. by the way your ribs there looked fantastic.
I looked at smokers that were available locally which were the Louisiana & Traeger then decided on the Traeger. Don't remember the reasons why but I am very happy with the Traeger. It didn't come with the digital thermostat it was about $200 for the 180. They also sell one that only goes down to 225.
Not to happy with Traeger pellet though, I don't notice a difference in flavor or the look of them (I hear they are mostly oak). I buy pellets from The Other Outdoor Store which is about 30 miles from my house. They are 100% what they say they are & you can see and taste the difference. Although they sell out very fast & I have been waitng for a week to get some, they are around $25 for a 40 pound bag. I included a shot of them in my beef jerky video.

travis1947 1 year ago
@travis1947 This time it is just water, it adds moisture to the cooking camber.
What model did you get?
