  • does the box show the bullet drop on the back like hornady?

  • "They don't walk away from a burger"

    Neither do most americans ;)

  • lol sounds like BURGER bullets "I shoot better i shoot Burger" yum

  • funny I can't find these bullets in canada i guess because up here the soft point has to be visible for huntiing.

  • looking at this bullet reminds me of the British 7.62 NATO boxer ammo i use in my savage bolt action rifle, very accurate and good to 800 meters. the bullet looks identical.

  • @mechanicalbu11

It looks like the 182gr FMJBT I pulled out of one of my PPU 7.62x54R cartridges as well.

  • great bullets!!!

  • The way these guys sell bullets , they need to start up a couple more production areas around the US !!!!! It's hard as hell to get these bullets in some calibers like 7mm 168 gr ! Cant find them anywhere!!!

  • Some good bullets but hard to make.

  • For most hunters, 300 yards is considered long range. They buy a 300 win mag and shoot 100 yds. This is more status than practicality. A .243 will slaughter black bear at that distance and Remington makes a 100 gr .243 bullet for it. Big is fine, but accuracy is final. It is completely satisfactory to take animals out to 1000 yds with larger bore rifles as proven my military research and facts.Practice is key, and professional field research is valuable. To each his own on this subject.

  • @MatosUpNorth 300 yards is a good poke for most hunting. I dumped 2 whitetails at 500 yards using the 95 gr. berger vld in .243, it is more than enough at that distance. Not much further than that though.

  • My 13 year old daughter shoots sub 1/2 inch groups at 100 yds with a Remington model 770 .243 youth model and Remington 100gr .243 rounds. Todays rifle technology is very sufficient at long ranges. As an ARMY veteran, long range shooting just takes practice. There is no reason to dismiss 500yard shots, even with a .243. But you gotta practice.

  • @MatosUpNorth I know a .243 will kill at 500 yards. I dumped 2 whitetails at this range using the berger 95 gr. vld. They are great bullets, i used them in my ruger M77 mark 2 target recently and was very impressed.

  • @MatosUpNorth I agree, the .243 win is very accurate. Its more than enough for most big game. From my time with the .243 500 yrds is the effective range on deer size game.

  • Both styles of hunting take skill. Sitting still in thick woods means being careful on your movement, scent and noise. The style of weapon doesn't have to be so critical when you have a limited distance.

Long range hunting has an entirely different set of criteria. The style of weapon must be accurate, your knowledge of ballistics needs to be exact, and your knowledge of the weapon must be paramount.

At extreme distances there is little room for error and you must be precise.

  • Other factors such as wind, altitude, humidity, Barometric pressure and in some cases in extreme distance coriolis and spin drift must be know. All of these things must be in alignment for an accurate shot to take place. If you think this doesn't fall into the category of accuracy then try shooting an egg at 500 yards you will soon find that even at that distance the factors that weigh the most will be exaggerated immensely.

  • You simply cant buy a custom rifle, load it up, and head to the field it takes a lot of time and knowledge before you can connect on targets or game at extreme distances.

There are a lot more factors involved in long range hunting than conventional style hunting and thus also requires special equipment and exacting knowledge of what you are doing.

  • Visit precisionlongrangehunter for more info on long range hunting and shooting. We have Bryan Litz Chief Ballistician for Berger Bullets on board to answer your questions about long range shooting and hutning.

  • @daveosok Yep, practise at these ranges, key word practise. if you want a better understanding of what it takes to make shots this far. Research and learn as much as possiable before attempting to hunt long range, and be sure and confident you can make a kill. Cant just buy a long range rifle and say im ready to shoot somthing at 900 yards.

  • While I like long range shooting, I think long range hunting is cheap because it removes the tracking and concealment challenges.

Don't get me wrong, I understand that LR shooting is a challenge in itself. But if a person is so far away, the animal's chance decreases.

    Just my opinion.

  • No, I think tracking and concealment is just primitive by current standards. It will become obsolete.

Long range hunting is the future. It involves much more skills in mathematics and physics. Use of modern Optics and computers is much more challenging than crawling and putting all kinds grass and weeds on your body and looking for deer shit on the ground.

  • I guess that my "idea" of hunting is a little old-school.

I mean, how many people just sit on top of a tree and wait for game to pass by?

But we're all entitled to our opinions.

If you think that LR hunting is the way to go, more power to you--as long as you can make a clean kill.

  • @rojocorsa How many sit and wait, i do for deer. Its called setting up a ambush. I will on certain hunts depending on the situation put a stalk on game. You can observe game from 500 700 yrds away, and if you have the means of taking a long range shot why not.

  • @Velocity4000fps

I figured that part of the "sporting challenge" would consist of stalking and tracking and other such woodcraft.

Just like when you shoot fowl in the air and not on the ground.

But there is no issue. Enjoy your hunting. ;)

  • @rojocorsa I enjoy bow hunting for that reason- challenging, but I have to admit the long range target style hunting has a different kind of challenge and appeal to me as well. I haven't tried it yet, but would like to.

  • @weseyedwalk I also bow hunt, and find it to be very challenging. Long range rifle hunting is also, i have tested myself at long range rifle hunting, and practise at the range is key.

  • @Velocity4000fps Yeah, I am still doing my homework before I purchase anything, but I'm definitely going to get into it soon, I figure anyone can shoot a deer at 100 yds with a decent gun, but to be consistent enough at 500+ yds to hunt sounds fun. Plus the meat tastes just as good right?

  • @weseyedwalk I just purchased a savage M111 long range hunter in 7MM mag. Its a nice rifle for around $1000, and one of the most accurate out of the box rifles i have shooting 168 gr. bergers. I still love to bow hunt, but i got bit by the long range bug lol. Yes you really do have to do your homework, ballistic drop charts and time at the range, but it is fun. Yes...the meat tastes just as good!! and when its a trophy as a bonus!

  • @Velocity4000fps Savage M111 looks nice, is that barrel stress relieved? just curious. I was looking at that 12 Palma for long rang stuff, What do you think of that gun? Honestly I think it looks nice. It's kinda heavy but I wouldn't use it to carry around the woods anyway. Also I was thinking about Remington 700. I'm still checking out a lot of guns tho, but I'm leaning toward 308. Just curious what state you hunt in?

  • Comment removed

  • @weseyedwalk If you mean the barrel is free floated, yes the full length. The palma would be very accurate for punching paper and deer. But if you wanted to hunt anything bigger than deer i would go with a 6.5 - 284 norma, 300 win mag, 7mm mag and up. If your not worried about the weight of a full on target rifle, and want to use it to hunt, then your good. I wanted somthing of a cross between a hunting rifle and a target tactical. I hunt in ohio for crop damage, and plan on pronghorn soon.

  • @Velocity4000fps I guess that's the other reason I was looking at it, because I'm only going to hunt deer and target shoot with it. If I ever get into Elk, I will just bow hunt or buy another gun. Another thing is that my uncle who has been hunting for 20 years told me the added weight will make the recoil 'smoother' and more manageable for a couple hours of target shooting/practicing. It seemed to make sense. I'm not sure but I am looking at it. Anyway thanks

  • @weseyedwalk If its going to be mostly deer, then all you need to do is find a good vantage point. It will help with recoil for all day shooting, and aid in accuracy. I have a heavy M77 ruger mark 2 target in .243 that weighs 11 pounds, i deer hunt and groundhog hunt with. For that its perfect, 500 yrds for deer, 500+ for coyote and woodchucks. But the savage 7 mag is for extreme long range 500 to 1000 yrds.

  • @Velocity4000fps Can I ask you a question - with that Palma 12 308 which has 30" barrel, what would be the effective humane range for hunting deer with that gun in your opinion - ballpark ? (assuming the skills are up to par. )

  • @weseyedwalk Sniper's use it to kill humans at 1000 yrds, but deer are tough with a amazing will to survive. I would say depending on your bullet and load, the 185 gr. berger vld loaded by hsm would kill a deer out to 750 + yrds. It takes around 1000 pounds of energy to kill a deer cleanly. The hsm 185 gr, berger is at 1008 at 750, and 937 at 800 yrds. Thats out of a 24 inch barrel, so you should gain a little more on that number. Google, big game info, Its how i get my ballistic numbers.

  • @Velocity4000fps wow interesting, does the barrel length make that much difference from 24" to 30"? I will check out the site you mentioned. I'm probably going to be targeting mule deer, they get a little bigger than white tail I believe.

  • @weseyedwalk Barrel length makes difference in some caliburs. Like my 7mm mag, you want a long tube because it reaches its full ballistics for long range accuracy and power. Yep .308 will work great on muleys also.

  • @Velocity4000fps I plan on exercising my 2nd amendment rights with several calibers in the future. Two things I love, target shooting and venison. Take care, and thanks for the tips.

  • My best Gruop 5 shoot on 100m is 0,18 MOA with VLD 175

    rifle rem 700 308w + AICS stage2

  • I'd love to see a PETA person comment on this, lol. Nice BC

  • Dont him and haw people!! BUY THESE BULLETS!!! They are the most advanced bullet on the market today ! Loaded some for my dad who shoots a .280 rem browning a-bolt ,used 180 gr vld and shoots 3 shots under 3/4" out of a factory gun!!! I shoot under 1/2" at 100 yds with my rem 700 sendero in 7mm rem mag without a care in the world using 168 vlds. Check out the show "BEST OF THE WEST" and let the footage speek for itself!! THANKS BERGER!! AND THANKS BEST OF THE WEST !!
