@kalpfei1287 Its not that I didnt like the story so much as I felt it ws getting repetitive. It just was one of those book series I felt that I would have to force myself to read through, and no one should have to force themselves to read a book. But a lot of people like the series, and I respect that. It just didnt call to me.
You should keep going, the 1st 3 books are written somewhat different then the rest. The characters grow as the story goes on and the writting style changes some without the short flashbacks as the 1st 3 have. Try the next book at least and see how you like it.
@Peorhum Nah, I think im done. If I continued id have to re-read the first three because its been a while and ive forgotten characters and plot points.
@Tapey01 I dont believe in having to struggle to get to the end. There should be no 'effort' when trying to read a book. It should be completely enjoyable. Like a steak.. its supposto be nice and tender not hard and tough.
@TheLadyKaylah Oh I agree, however I assume you read the books back to back? Jorden is at his best when there are George rr Martin length breaks between reading his books. That was my experience. I read the first 4 back to back and it was too much, it became a chore, but with appropriate breaks in between his books I enjoyed the series a lot more. As a result I am not current on the series quite yet but I am enjoying it much more. But his books aren't for everyone. This might just be me though.
@warrioroftheworld01 Oh my! I have to do a review on that book! Only book ive ever read that I could NOT continue. I dont even think I got to the third chapter.
@TheLadyKaylah I tried reading first three cha[pters but like u got bored, but my mate who is also a massive fantasy fan loves it and can't stop raving over it!
@warrioroftheworld01 See? You were like me! My brothers friend let him borrow it, and he said it seems interesting but nothing is happening, so he let me read it, and I felt the same. Im sure it probably would have gotten better eventually.. but I could not seem to push through it. (the Sword of Shannara im talking about)
I am currently on page 657 of "Knife of Dreams", and would have to say that I will never know how I managed to get this far (especially after the abysmal "Crossroads of Twilight"). I will say that while KOF helps patch up a few holes, Mr. Jordan (rather Sanderson at this point) has one huge mess to clean up. I mainly want to finish it simply to see if Sanderson can live up to his high expectations.
P.S. Have you ever (or will you) be reviewing anything by Tolkien at any point?
@Relleq Yeah, I heard both good and bad about Sanderson, either a lot of hype or a lot of trash. I guess he's one of those hit or miss types. But ive never read him.
The only thing ive read from tolkien was LOTR (of course) and The hobbit... which I count as part of the trilogy.
I got up to book 8 myself i believe. Whichever one it was that didn't mention Matt at all. 800 pages of dress descriptions and talking about the smoothing of said dresses just got to be too much. Add in the fact that I hated almost all of the characters by that point and I just couldn't go on. Maybe someday I will finish it, but I would have to reread from the beginning and the thought of that just makes me sick.
I recommend you read the rest of the series. Some of the books like Fires of heaven and Lord of Chaos are fantasy masterpieces. You haven't even met Aviendha or Bashere yet. I haven't put this series down since it came out. Thanks for the vid.
@loribomb Yeah.. maybe one day I will attempt to read the rest of the series. Just so I can say I did. Im sure its not horrible.... just long. I wonder if the new writer continuing the series is any good?
@TheLadyKaylah I read Brandon Sanderson's first book and didn't like it. I didn't like his Mistborn Series either. But I think he did a wonderful job on The Gathering Storm and Towers of Midnight. I can't wait for Memory of Light! I recently purchased Patrick Rothless's 'The Name of the Wind' is you're looking for a good read. The hype surrounding him is well founded.:)
@loribomb Omg, Name of the Wind is reccomended to me all the time. I am definately asking my friends around for it. Or maybe I will ask someone to buy me it as a gift. Thanks for backing it up. The more people tell me about a book, the more likely I am to be interested. It on the top of my "MUST FIND" books.
Yeah, I noticed the out of sync thing. Im still trying to figure out my webcam. Its new.. and im not that great with computers. My videos seem to be fine when I make them on the computer... but get out of sync if I try to do it through youtube. I may have to save videos and then upload.
Yeah, beside the "umms" I kinda liked this review and then the wirdness happened.
Yeah, Im trying to get my hands on those Salvatore books, so many people reccomend them.
Hmm, the video seems to be out of sync with the audio, but that's ok. I have read the first book looooong ago, but I never continued for the same reason you mentioned: plodding, leaden plot points. It has such an uneven style that I didn't bother with the rest. I like your review here, your forthright opinion gives a clear impression of the books, and makes me remember why I put it down.
I would recommend RA Salvator's Dark Elf trilogy, starting with Homeland. I loved that series! :)
You should really read the intire seies. It is a very good book!!!

@jescat270 But people keep telling me I should skip books. Im just not an epic series type of person. At least not that epic. lol.

Jorden really does drag on and on and it gets to much but the series really is worth the effort.

@Tapey01 Like I said, I shouldnt have to go out of my way for a book series. Its either good the way it is, or isnt.

I'm around 1/3 way through Book 4: The Shadow Rising and I can't get enough! =)
I'm determined to see it through to the end!

@TheLadyKaylah Apparently, it is just a rip off of Lord of the Rings, but Lord of the Rings will always be the best!
