Some of these comment's are very ignorant. GNU/LINUX is FOSS licensed mostly under the GNU GPL, It's not possible for Microsoft to buy LINUX, it's already open source they can use it for free and sell it any time they like as long as they conform to the GPL which means they would have to keep the LINUX software they sell Open source which would never fit there development and sales model of monopolization and strict control without care for user's right's.

The possibility of Microsoft buying up Linux isn't really out of the question. The only reason why it wont at this time is the the current rate of growth of the Linux market share. In other words, Linux isn't a small growing threat, it's just small and superior in quite a few ways. In retrospect I should have just thought that when I read the title.

@vearheart42 oh, the idea of MS buying Linux is definitely not out of the question. I just keep holding out hope that they don't decide to go to Linus's house one day and hand him a blank check. I don't really think he'd accept, but... at the end of the day, a big blank check is hard to turn down.
