Why on earth would Obama want to sit with any of u neanderthals? Why didn't you share that "good idea" you claimed to have while you had the floor? What grand solution to fix health care do you have Michelle?
A free-market and liberty for the citizenry is much less primitive than imposed force and "legalized" theft.
You may not realize this, but the reason things are so expensive (mortgages, education, cars, health care, energy, etc...) is because of Government intrusion.
I suppose it's easier to believe what you're told rather than utilize your brain and educate yourself, but it makes you neither superior nor correct.
Her ideas: bachmann. house. gov/Issues/Issue/?IssueID=2863
At no point in my comment did I say that I don't support free market. I think free market is a great concept and is by far the best, but there needs to be referees, and if you think that the government should do absolutley nothing, and not keep the corporations in check and not allow them to screw the working class, while at the same time allowing their freedom, than that's basically anarchy. Btw, she gave no solution to healthcare reform, which was my point. A Public OPTION is the best route.
When will the Dems clue in that the ECONOMY is a bigger issue than Healthcare? Time to cut federal spending, lower small business taxes, and get the most powerfull economic power in the world back on track. Healthcare is something that can be debated after the bigger problems are fixed.
If the "door has been locked to republican alternatives" it's your own damned fault. Instead of coming up with productive solutions this past summer, you guys were too busy spreading misinformation and lies. Your goals were not to reform health care with any new ideas, just to take a big dump in the pool and then try to explain how the democrats MADE you do it.
@cstrand, you have not done your homework. Dozens of amendments have been proposed by Republicans, and every single one (every single one) has been rejected by the party of corruption and denial.
I'm going to give you a pass on the "anointed" comment because that's just par for the course with you people, but I in fact stated no allegience to any party. As to the rest of your comment,at least you've come to admit that they were in fact lies. Good work.
The Democrats have an agenda: Grab as much power for the federal government as possible and create as much government dependence as possible. Healthcare, Cap and Tax, Card Check - The issue is never the issue.
You sound like McCain during the campaign when he started going on about how he has a plan for the economy. He also knew how to solve Iraq and Afghanistan.
What was it?
Truth is, you don't have an original idea. Do you, Michele?
There are lots of options, unfortunately our fine tuned bureaucracy will not do anything that actually completely benefits us but takes money or power away from their cartel (them and big business monopolizing together). So anyone well meaning will not be heard whether they have a solution or not. Truth is, Obama doesn't have an original idea. Do you Kingsdun? For someone who embraced someone for president with not one Iota of credential, you sure are quick to judge this lady.lol
Alright then. Allow for an unfettered, minimally taxed and weakly regulated free market. That is sure to benefit the masses, as it has for the past 2 or 3 decades.
Who needs a middle class, anyway.
Continue the policies of trickle down economics and we will be back to the super, wonderful days that ended at noon of Jan. 20/09.
The only attempts at solutions I hear are lower taxes, lower taxes, lower taxes.
Well, that's what the Bush admin. did and where did that get ya?
King, I still acknowledge the checks and balance system we were originally set up with. I am not saying at all to give unfettered control to free market as that too leads to monopolies. What I am saying is that by the time we are all done being raped by politicians at our own expense, we could damn sure come up with options that will put government at bay, and big business monopolies in the unemployment line. Free market is the key, unfortunately, Uncle Sam and Big Business are married now.
Reform is what we need. I am not aware of many people who don't want HC reform. I am part of those who see the government as incompetent of achieving more than checks and balances. Reform has the whole nation behind it though, minus pharm. companies and some insurance (my insurance is actually good). I know you are aware how the FDA and Pharm. are married. Our nation has a load of unholy ties that need to be broken to benefit the people for sure. Its up to us, the people, to make it happen.
Thanks Q. I wish more people knew how The Fed came into being so they would recognize the game these people play, and how they pit us against each other in order to conceal their agendas. If we the people would say what we want within the bounds of reality, would could definitely hire the right people in to get it done. Private industry does it like this. I fire people who cannot get it done and hire those that know what they are doing. Its a beautiful thing. We need to fire some politicians
Point is, most of the luxuries you enjoy in you modern life, (health, safety & conveniences), are, at some point, the product of a gov't supported program.
Uh, no! Nearly all of those things you listed are produced by private industries CONTRACTED by the government! You know...kind of like Halliburton. LOL!
It's a weak argument, championed by the most lethargic in order to further their goals of getting their diapers changed by the state from cradle to grave.

Don't be so myopic, and try to look beyond the bridge of you nose. To deny the benefits and advancements achieved during the 20th century were a result of gov't investment is to denying history.
The debate shouldn't be concentrating on diminished role, rather, refine the parameters with a social investment network.
Set a level platform for the private sector to build and expand upon.

...highway system to the benefit of an emerging auto industry, The investment was huge, but set the stage for GM, et all, and all the ancillary operations required to support it. Plastics, rubber, fiberglass, whatever. The airline industry is another example.
Point is, anyone who is proud of being a self made millionaire, needs to also realize he didn't do it completely and utterly alone
You accuse me of being lethargic and cough up that hairball of a comment?
The working title of my next essay is, "When the Ideology of Free Market Capitalism Turns to Theology."

My hypothesis is based on how the phenomenon of the inability to learn from history, objectively evaluate the facts and evidence then proceed in a constructive manner to the further benefit of society is not exclusive to Young Earth Creationists.
It's actually a pretty good comment I made. Logical. Fact-based.
And how is any demurring from an INCREASE of control by the state over private enterprise NOT educated by the enlightenment to history? We've seen that failure time after time with the socialist tyrannies of the 20th century.
One could argue that those subsidies to the auto and airline industry could have diverted resources that could have given us flying cars or some other alternative efficient form of transportation. We'll never know, but my hunch is that it would be exponentially better than what we have today. (PS I agree that all those "self made millionaires" did so on the backs of taxpayers by the force of government)
The mantra is based on what government was intended to be from the founders, to what it has become today. Government was meant only to protect us from each other so that we all would be unhindered by any outside influences from the pursuit of life, liberty, and happiness. BTW, most of the social programs were originally private programs that were successful and able to receive tax money for the right reasons. Bureaucracy and waste are what we are trying to curb with government right now.
lol. I just realized you are Canadian. No , we don't care for bureaucracy deciding anything, nor Alan Greenspan, nor the Fed. I am not sure how any of this effects you guys up there, or if you live here part of the year (I am in South Florida, lots of part time citizens here!), but Canadians definitely will not like our ways anymore than we do not like the bank of England or the UN controlling our nation. The Health Insurance industry is the only industry that has a legal monopoly other than Baseball. And MLB is kind of irrelevant to this argument.
When a state only has 2 companies to chose from, it is currently permissible for those two organizations to meet, and set their prices.
doesn't sound like a free market to me.
It is acceptable, indeed the norm, for them to deny coverage and thus treatment.
A group of people decide who stays healthy.
What does that sound like?

"Uncle Sam and Big Business are married now"
Right. So why do the critics of HC reform ignore this and side with the insurance corporations?
Hundreds of millions spent by the lobby groups to, what, improve conditions for those who need it at the companies expense?
No. To maintain a status quo.
Bottom line is the health of the population should be a social issue, like fire depts. or mass transit. Not an profit tool for a few wealthy.
Reform will bust that monopoly.

Clearly, we could list many accomplishments social programs have provided. As well as productive (and protective) regulations.

For MB to stand there and claim Dems. are the party of no is absurd. Look at how the GOP has voted on anything this year. No & no.
