This was probably the way the old Rubicon Trail was originally was meant to be run, what many modern crawlers and offroaders forget is that you could have as much fun in a far less expensive fairly stock vehicle as you could any expensive offroad vehicle. Great short film of what isn't too often seen on many trails today.
NOW...... go look in the mirror and tell me what's wrong with that face those folks make those high dollar ass holes with there hummers,150,000 dollar mean machines jesus h christ what a bunch of pussy's now days, wake up!!!
Great video! No roll bars and probably no seat belts, they were real troopers back then, but I don't think I'd want to wear a seat belt without a roll bar.
I took my 3a out to moab last year (100% stock) i haven't got around to replacing the springs so the 60 year old leafs are almost flat enough to use as a straight edge :) and there were 2 tacomas, 1 wrangler, and a dirtbike in our caravan and I was just speeding along that trail like it was nothing and 1 point had to wait about 30 minutes for the rest of them to catch up. Theres no doubt in my mind that Willys Overland did it right when they made the Jeep.
Yes, the trail has really been destroyed by huge tires, huge rigs, and people that don't know how to drive. They want the trail to be harder and harder to test their awesome $150K rock crawler, making the trail a lot less fun for the weekend warrior with a more mild vehicle.
Back then you could go to the Jeep dealer and buy a brand new CJ2A for 2-3 months of a ditch digger's salary so if it got destroyed or busted it wasn't a big deal.It was one of the cheapest cars on the road despite it's utility and durability.Today that ditch digger's grandkids would have to be making $150,000 per year to go pay cash for a new Jeep in the same amount of time.
Man these old guys and gals had some moxie! This is an example of run what you got and enjoy it. Looks like half these guys learned how to drive the jeep in WWII, man we could learn a thing or two from them. They make my locked up,lifted, 36 inch tired jeep look stupid. Man they had some guts, I really love the guy in the orange M38 with the cowboy hat. He was loving every minute. Live life, Wheel hard and enjoy yourself. They did and with less than we have today.
Amazing vehicles and Jeepers. No fuel injection, no long arm lifts, NO ROLL BARS, no oversized tires, no brush guards, no skid plates, loaded down w more people than should ride in a Jeep and yet truckin' right along. They kind of make us modern Jeepers look sort of pansy.
Roll bars!!?? They didna need no ROLL BARS!! That's what the Cowboy Hat was fer!!! SEAT BELTS? Blasphemy I can get a good 3 foot in the air off my seat and still keep the jeep drivin straight and true!!! lol no really did you see that orange jeep bouncing? that guy looked like he popped OUT Of the jeep that was awesome

Apparently these people were uneffected by sore necks, pinched nerves or things of that sort.

@ufJSmqtxb Big tires do less damage. The dirt was removed by those earlier rigs.

@ufJSmqtxb You should do more homework about this before you post the stupidity that you did.....moron

The road was a lot better back then though too. But you're right no major upgrades. Awesome!

Awesome. A lot closer to what it was like when I started in 1979, than what it is now.

Yeah makes you wonder how many people had to die before someone decided rollbars were a good idea.
