Thats bullcrap, yes he is the captain and most be responsible to all this but all officers have the right to stop him if he is endangering the life of 4000 + people. It is not an excuse because he is the captain, their is the 2nd in command " chief mate". This shows that the other officer with him (captain) doesnt know the restriction when passing such dangerous place... This happens on a second shift and most likely the duty officer is the 3rd mate with a duty helmsman. Im sure this ship is in auto pilot and not by manual coz they already left the other port and cruising. This is clearly a one stupid mistake not checking the chart, this ship has designed route and they only follow the course and every 15 mins or less they check the position , its so damn of an officer not to see where he is heading if he only check the map. It be a little more complex than that. A cook for the captain says the guy was ordering food and had a female with him. He was accidentally pushed into a life boat which miraculously safely landed in the ocean and floated away. It was a tuff day for el capitan.

What happened isn't even remotely close to being what happened to the titanic. The titanic actually sunk killing over 1500 people. The Cordia flipped over on it's side and only a few dozens were killed. It's four thousand passengers didn't drown and are safe.
