The "villain" is actually an American military colonel himself, not one of them "flag-burning Commu-terrorist locals" as you used to call them. Colonel John Konrad (named after Joseph Conrad, author of "Heart of Darkness") was sent there to rescue civilians from buried-under-the-sands Dubai, but then refused to come back and even killed the first Team sent to rescue him.

Imho, this could be one of the most interesting and deep stories found in a shooter for a long time.

It's supposed to come out this Fall, whether or not it will be better than Call of Duty (I guess you're referring to Modern Warfare 2), well, this will probably always be an opinion.

I, personally, didn't like MW2 at all, and I'm looking forward to Spec Ops: The Line much more than I was to MW2.

At least story-wise, this has the potential to set the bar high, as in contrary to MW2, which story I received pretty mediocre and bland.

From the trailer, one can deduce that the military guy you're rescuing is a sort of Kurtz/Treadstone amalgum, which should make for a sort of Apoalypse Now esque journey into the darkness of the modern conciousness.
