  • Much love to whoever posted this. our art collective owes everything to Lynch. check out our channel at vimeo(dot)com/channels/disamedia

    Sincerely

    MWOODS

  • What's the symbolism behind this?

  • @BaraYaoiManga There is none. There doesn't have to be symbolism with David Lynch.

  • Charlie Sheen is high on Lynch

  • I. WANT. TO. SMOKE. CIGARETTES.

  • i think marlboro beats this. they got the residents to do an entire performance peice for their smokes, which ups their hip points way more.

  • i think marlboro wins by getting the residence to do that whole performance peice thing. these guys only got lynch to do one commercial. WHO'S THE HIPPER CARCINOGEN NOW?

  • amazing

  • LSD cigarettes? Where ya buy those from?

  • I don't think Parisiennes were what David was smoking...

  • @Wh3nYour3Strang3 LMAOOOOOOOO

  • And all we get is cartoon dogs and cats and 50's housewives and freaking Bob Seger songs on truck commercials. USA USA USA!!!

  • @ERaddock u sound like a nutter.

  • @YouJussGotCurbed Yes it does.

  • @YouJussGotCurbed no, being David Lych's does.

  • That is one of the weirdest fucking things I've ever seen.... love Lynch.

  • These cigarettes are spiked with acid!!!

  • AWESOME

  • Parisienne: It gives you the power to shoot fireballs, and also to make water and fish float.

  • !gniht siht fo tuo tihs eht ekoms s'teL !gnikrow s'tI

  • Is there really such a thing as a televised cigarette ad?

  • @HRPrufstenstuff Not in the United States; American network tv dropped advertising for cigs and hard liquor some time in the early '70s (??) -- Oddly enough, they've recently decided to allow ads for hard alcohol again, even though study after study proves that it is FAR more damaging to your body, your family, and your society to drink booze than it is to shoot heroin!

  • I don't know what just happened but I really need to smoke for some reason.

  • If you smoke Parsiennes you will become as creative as David Lynch and your mind will explode from the overload. This is why they never aired the ad.

  • how he gets these crazy ideas

  • I wish there were more commercials like this.

  • now why can't my cigs do things like this?!

  • What the fuck?

  • Wow. Leave it to David Lynch to make something like this.

  • Enjoyed the acting, i love art film!

  • emo

  • This one went right by me! If it's promoting cigs, check out the link on my channel.

  • another hero bites the fucking dust

  • I love it when companies pay filmakers to make ads...they never are ads just art...JONAS MEKAS FOREVER

  • @SABRENOSE Uncle Roachcrust!

  • haha if everyone in the advertising business was david lynch we would live in a quite fascinating and inspiring environment.

of course he shouldn't encourage smoking but who knows what is hiding in those packages.

  • this made me want to stay AWAY from smokes now

  • "Casque D' Or " and "Mutter Museum " by peter coukis.wmv ...it's a 15min. Beatles Mockumentary i created...it's totally dark, perverted, and completely deranged

  • ...

    ...

    ...

    I get it, heheheh!

  • after this I have to smoke one...

  • Rofld

  • Well...the fact people doesnt understand lynch´s art...doesnt make it a bad thing...I think everyone should respect the work of everybody...

  • If I take a shit and call it a My Film work, would you respect it?

  • @ofotcnest Well yeah...I mean if thats the way you want to express your feelings or an idea why not? I mean...respect doesnt mean like it...but yeah I would respect it :) and well I dont have the idea of amm insult you or something like that BTW :)

  • @ofotcnest if it's good

  • @tinosteiner01 can u help us understand?

  • @eckosama Well...as far as I know...I mean dont trust my word a lot (lol) Lynch loves the Dadaism Wave...and the dadaism is the oposite of positivism...so?

Dadaism is made of the contrary of logic...so in a way this doesnt have a real logic in a positivism way to see things...many times is just like a symbolic way to see the smoking thing...

PD: sorry if my english is awful but Im learning it :D

  • @tinosteiner01 Hei, Everyone... This is a great comment. You should vote it up!

  • David Lynch is not a genius, he is an up himself weirdo who cant make proper films. This ad is just reversed shots of people moving about pointlessly and it does not make anyone want to smoke, unless they are weird and fucked up too. No normal audience can relate to this ad, only Lynch and his screwed up mind can relate to it. Bravo David for making some weird pile of shit that no one can understand. Keep up the crap David, we all love the smell of ur crap, Im sure u do to.

  • wow, thanks for clarifying my mind, I was a David Lynch fan but your deep comment changed my mind... hahahahahaha

  • @ofotcnest you are totally honest man ... i mean how can a place like hollywood contains people like this psycho wacko david lynch , and in the same time genius and brilliant people like Michael Mann , Francis Ford Coppola , Brian De Palma and Martin Scorsese ...... !!!!!

    That's Totally UNFAIR : (

  • @ofotcnest Think of Edouard Manet. He was hated and considered a fraud at first but eventually people caught up to his Ideas. For example that a painting was not just for objective representation, but a visual experience. This type of pattern continues to happen through out history in any art form. yet every modern generation believes that they have seen it all and know what is legit and what is not. Film is a new medium.

  • @superfly12620011 Edouard Manet created paintings of his own time that people of his era could relate too. David Lynch creates films that very few people can relate too, so where is the logic in what he does? How could anyone in the right mind relate too Inland Empire, stiff looking bunnies speaking on the phone with no explaination of why he is showing us these bunnies. Ok that sounds like it could be funny, but he did in a weird way that ruined the humour which made it completly pointless.

  • @superfly12620011 And films aside, this Advert doesnt relate to anyone, and the whole point of an Advert is to relate to the viewers of the modern world and get them interested in a product. People cannot respond to this Advert because they dont understand it, and why should they, there isnt anything to undertstand. It is reversed slow motion footage of two men beside a barn moving about with a slowed down soundtrack, thats it. Why does it make anyone want to buy parisienne cigarettes.

  • I worship this because it has David Lynch's name attached to it. (And also because it's fucking brilliant.)

  • that really wasnt any good... bizarre ≠ genius

...but of course just cos it has lynch's name ppl will worship it

  • @shahn78 I agree, but for me bizarre like this one is funny and I like it just because of that. Don't see anything genius in this one, but that doesn't mean its not good and entertaining :)

  • @shahn78 Have you ever seen The Elephant Man or The Straight Story? He know's how to make "normal" movies and is quite talented at them. He just opts to not do them (often). I have a lot of respect for a person willing to put his entire career on the line in favor of telling stories he wants to tell even if they are at times "bizarre".

  • Remember, kids, if you smoke, this shit happens.

  • You know, I bet this wouldn't be so popular if this wasn't under some big name like David Lynch, or if other people didn't tell you he was so great.

  • this is coked up

  • What wouldnt make you want to smoke that cigarette?

I may need to start smoking.

  • what the hell would make me want to smoke that cigarette......

  • Comment removed

  • I just like it. I don't know why.

  • @ivanclaysburgh

    his creativity dumbass

  • i need a cigarette

  • win.

  • david lynch is the man.

  • I saw this one just in the nicotine...

  • Oh wow, I'm very impressed. I never really knew Lynch did commercials.

  • in david lynch's mind, cigarettes smoke YOU

  • @xxxfunnyman In David Lynch's mind, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY FACE IS GONE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

  • lynch what were u smoking

  • Probably something stronger than Parisienne lol

  • Damn, makes me wanna start smokin' again.

  • Hahaha!

    That's a trip, maaan.

  • Lynch..

  • What the hell did I just see?

  • (shakes head)

  • i thought smoking is not allowed in the red room :D

  • the way they did it was the actors performed as if they were backwards, then they reversed it and all the non-human parts are backwards. But since the actors were purposely being backwards, they look like they're normal.

  • What is so odd about this video is that it appears to be backward but it is not.

I rendered it in VirtualDub and played it backwards, and it still seems backwards - it is very strange, I think this whole thing was acted backwards in some parts and forward in other, so that you really can't tell how it "should" look, or what the plot is. But, this is David Lynch.

If you have the ability to watch it backwards, try it. It's very odd.

  • If you haven't seen Twin Peaks, you should watch a famous scene (the episode is called Cooper's Dream) where the main character is having a dream - and in the dream he's sort of having a conversation with these people who are talking backwards, however it's played in reverse so it sounds "normal". It's the strangest thing I've ever seen.

  • @hushpushh ya cooper's entrance into the red room with the midget

  • nice! brb ciggbreak

  • this was awesome, do you feel it?

  • What a dude.

  • Are they implying that Parisienne cigarettes are a gateway drug to things like ecstasy, lcd and crack?

  • lcd

  • It's all about the experience of smoking one

  • I don't know what I could feel, this art haven't a true meaning, it just says it's what have to be. Pure surrealism. I really loved how original is this.

David Lynch, you just got a new fan.

    5/5

  • damn I want a cigarette now

  • genius.....thought provoking

  • I want to smoke now?

  • Time to make Ronnie Rocket!

  • Bellissimo e molto accattivante.

    Bavo Lynch, sei unico.

  • wow looked like those guys were stoned like hell

  • lol

  • they were zombies

  • Awesome.

  • Fire Walk With Me: now in menthol!

  • When you're in the right frame of mind smoking can be more enjoyable than stroking a marmut. Thats not a popular truth.

  • the fuck was that

  • Now I know why David Lynch smokes.

  • now I know WHAT David Lynch smokes... lol

  • haha...

  • 0:40 Chocolate raaain?

  • You're awesome.

  • God, does that put me in the mood for a smoke!

  • obviously those of you don't understand this aren't aware that David Lynch does in fact have a sense of humor, while also being a brilliant artist in his own right.

  • To me, what makes art distinct from mass media, is that it is open to wide and varied interpretation. Read Maxim magazine, watch Forrest Gump. Almost everyone comes away with identical interpretations. I like this film because it doesn't explain to me exactly what I am supposed to think or feel.

  • WOW..Lnych is a mindfuck waiting to happen..LOVE IT!

  • Comment removed

  • Couldn't have said it better. Agreed!

  • And what does that mean? You remind me of my film&lit teacher who never explained anything but told me vague things like this. :(

If anything David Lynch makes non-sense into film and then everyone over analyzes it. Original isn't quite the word I'd use for it, more 'out there', I guess.

  • You really are just spouting an awful lot of gibberish.

  • broad-minded Otox-good job! You have fulfilled your need to ineffectually criticize a point without making one yourself. Rest easy in your armchair, and keep trying to strike down the comments of others without contributing any yourself. You will remain an impotent, nutless monkey. I admit to not being an expert on someone else's art, but you pretend to be without warrant. Your lazy verdicts are not legitimate or wanted, hater.

  • if you are going to fuck up on your grammar you might as well not look up giant words that dont go together at all but just (what you think) makes you smart.

  • Comment removed

  • Yeah, that was definitely a reasonable response.

  • haha, do your homework. Maybe you should consider watching one of his movies again, over and over and over and over and over and over again. Set aside your bounderies and travel into the world of art.

  • He's not trying anything at all. He's doing.

  • Art is exactly right;

    no one ever questioned Dali.

It doesn't have to be a picture of something, it just is.

  • to all that replyed don't get me wrong i love lynches work , and I am a fan . i wasn't trying to but the vid down but my god is it wierd , and you all seem right about him he is one of the most orgenal artests that i've seen

  • does david lynch smoke those cigarettes i have to buy them finally i can understand his films

  • I think it proves that you don't have to make sense to make it so intriguing.

  • great shit

  • I don't smoke, but I want to give this man an outrageous amount of money for a pack of those cigarettes.

  • it's kind of unconsious think ! it's evil! he's telling us the cigar is the salvation! The only thing i didn't understand, is the entering in the store, and with a hook. It seems the store gives you the way for your salvation!

  • i competely understand

  • Gauloises Blondes are better, at least they don't make you hallucinate.

  • unorthodoxy by carl rust

  • Fantastic!

  • Nice one. It seems like it's just the act of smoking showed in David's own way and backwards-backwards: you light up the cigarette with the fire, then you feel the euphory & at the same time you are killing yourself; the cigarette is almost finished and only a non-smokable shit remains there; you put it out. Repeat.

  • That's a good interpretation.

  • ...and then your cigarette, uh, makes fish appear?

  • fish smell and so does your breathe haha!

  • i usually smoke cigars

  • What?

  • Vivian Von Scampibutter 3b 11, 84, .322

  • Must. . . smoke. . . PARISSIENE. . . .

  • Dommage que ce ne soit pas pour OCB King Size !

  • I feel like Lynch was attempting to soften you up to the idea of smoking. you have the black men crawling in the street, a bunch of flashing and smoke, and that's the purpose. Does life make you feel dazed and stunned at the pure hell you go through? SMOKE THESE CIGARETTES.

  • the idea of commercials is to make you think about the product, eventually leading to you buying the product. of course commercials don't make you run into the store and buy whatever it is their advertising for ^^

  • what just happened there

  • Wow thats amazing

  • Awesome ad, if only I could get it

  • Yes Lynch is the best!

  • This commercial totally made me interested in the brand and what the hell it was about. Its not like any commercial really does make someone say "Well I totally am looking forward to buying that!"

  • You have reason!

  • This man speaks the truth. And while I wouldn't buy the smokes (not that I smoke anyways), I WILL admit that this was (unintentional?) comedy gold.

  • I'd buy any cigarettes from a company that would allow David Lynch to direct their commercial with their money. money so well spent.

  • explain exactly what you mean by pretentious and exactly how he fits into that definition.

  • He can't explain it because "pretentious" is just a word that (ironically, actually pretentious) people throw around to describe art they don't like/are jealous of.

  • wat
