I like this as a tribute, but the song just doesn't work as punk. The whole point of it is the contrast between the cheerful, innocent pop sound and the dark lyrics. Punk already has an edge to it, and it can't make that contrast.

Regardless of whether or not you like it (i like it, and the original), they at least had the decency to put effort into it and make it their own, unlike some other bands (*cough* Runner Runner). This is the kind of cover that brings honor to the original and to the covering band.

Plus FYS plays pop punk amazingly, it cant sound sad, its a classic song that you obviously didnt like that someone decided to touch. Why do people automatically think that covers have to be competition with the originals?! A cover is a band reworking a song in their own style, paying tribute to the original artist. That's especially the case with this album- it's an album of songs which the band are saying inspired them when they were kids- and thanking them for driving them to play well, and eventually play the songs they loved to the people that love them, NOT to make a better version
