However, even though I would most likely freeze my balls off if I were to do that I most likely wouldn't catch a cold nor come down with the flu. And why is that? Because they are transmitted by people, not caused by cold weather or freezing!

@42317 They have to either touch the same objects or touch each other with their hands and/or face to transmit the influenza or common cold since they are not airborne.

Temporary exposure to cold air like that will not weaken your immune system unless your body already is weakened from something else before.

You are much more likely to catch those diseases indoors fully clothed than outdoors naked. That is the reason they are more common during the winter.

Ask your doctor about it.

Hadaka Matsuri is a "Shinto cleansing ritual." Essentially it's a lot of guys, drinking lots of sake, putting on shorts or loincloth and going into freezing cold water.

I remember watching a documentary on National Geographic and there was a portion about this festival. The holy man in the middle of the crowd is believed to bring good fortune to whomever touches him. He looked pretty badly injured though and I can understand why he would be. That is such a strange tradition, but the Japanese have many different traditions than we do. For example, today is White day which means the guys have to give the girls presents. Kinda sucks when a girl brings that up with you and you could care less. Still some interesting celebrations the Japanese have.
