  • Where you recommend trauma training I can never find a place for that.

  • @Mrcaffinebean -- There are a number of options these days. I offer a four hour 'Handling Traumatic Injury' class, generally on the Friday evenings before a weekend class. Tactical Response offers a 2 day Immediate Action Medical course, Insights Training Center offers a Tactical First Aid class. Another company that is owned by a friend of mine is Lone Star Medics. They offer some great classes focusing on different aspects of tactical medicine. Where are you located?

  • @Gomez8136 Central VA, I looked around but really couldn't find much medical stuff.

  • @Mrcaffinebean --- I don't know anything about them but RED6 in Lynchburg has brought John Farnam in for his Tactical Treatment of Gunshot Wounds class. Also, there is a Virginia Tactical Medical Association that may be able to provide some resources for you to look into. Tactical Response has a DVD entitled Gunshot Wound Basics which I am fond of as well.

  • @Gomez8136 I'll look into those thanks for the info!

  • If your aluminum body flashlight has a lanyard attachment point on the butt cap, then a proper length paracord lanyard can attach to your D ring to make a nunchaku. Don't ask me how I know that....LOL

  • I had the pleasure of meeting Paul at Tactical Response last July for IAM and he showed us how to use the D ring with keys as a TQ, blew my mind. I now carry a TK2 and a D ring so I EDC 2 tourniquets.

  • @yayb953 -- Glad to hear you liked the idea. When it was shown to me, I was dumbfounded by how simple it was.

  • Paul, How is the D ring part of your medical kit? Or did I misunderstand?

  • @FlGlockShooter -- It is the windlass/handle for the tourniquet. One of the key rings is used as the lock to secure the handle once blood flow has been stopped. I plan on covering it all in a future video.

  • @Gomez8136 I'm looking forward to this video--it seems like a logical enough, easy to carry solution--many people already carry some type of carabiner for their keys anyway. Interestingly, my buddy is a corpsman and mentioned that he prefers triangular bandages and grenade pins to CATs, as the velcro could become useless when clogged with blood/sand and the plastic windlass was prone to bending/breaking. He did mention that he likes the SOF Tactical Torniquets though. He mentioned

  • @wcropp1 that he's not a huge fan of the TK4 style torniquets either, but they're hard to beat for their size and cost. That is, except for a cravat and a split ring. Any other medical videos would be greatly appreciated as well, as not just anyone on YT is qualified to teach combat medicine. Thanks for the info.

  • Ypu should check out gunfighterinc he on youtube for mag pouches he makes a mag pouch youd like

  • Happy New Year Paul.

  • @jeffreylane7 --Thanks. And to you!

  • Paul,

Great video and love your EDC setup. Almost mirrors mine, so I know I'm doing something right.

A small multi-tool might be in order, but you certainly have the rest covered.

    Thanks for sharing.

  • @2ndefender -- On the keys, next to the micro light, is a Leatherman Micra something-or-other. I forgot to mention it.

  • What I want to know, and where it really gets interesting a lot of the time, is what does the car EDC look like ?

  • @SpaceFrawg -- I drive a Jeep. It's way to heavy for me to carry.

  • @Gomez8136 lol.. Fair enough.

  • how is the Gen4 holding up for you? I read that the Gen4's had problems and HK is really the only reliable out of the box pistol being made these days

  • @stander1983 -- Yeah, I've seen all the stuff online. I've tested two of the earliest Gen 4 17s & 22s. Still have the 17. No issues with either of them. No issues with the 19, either. The 19 does have the newer recoil spring in it. HKs are great but they are big, chunky and I don't care for how high the bore sits over the hand.

  • Paul, who makes the pouch/wallet you use for your blow-out kit?

  • @kenpotex -- Willis stitched that for me while I was in his shop visiting. The problem with any case is that it adds bulk to the kit. I'm still playing with a better way to carry the needle. The case for the needle is the single tallest part of the kit and that forces everything to be bigger than it needs. I'm thinking of going with a miniSharpie body as the case. We'll see how it works out...

  • @Gomez8136 Cool, thanks. The mini-sharpie is a good idea.

  • @kenpotex -- Doesn't quite work, dammit!! After responding to your comment, I went ahead and grabbed a mini-Sharpie and a pair of pliers...they are a bit too short to accommodate the 3.25" needle. I'll keep looking for some sort of rigid tube that is smaller than what NARP & Mojo are using.

  • @Gomez8136 You could always tear an old Bic pen or two apart, cut the barrel to length, and either seal the open end with the normal pen tip/cap, or take the end pieces off two pens and use them to seal both ends. This might not be the quickest thing to gain access to the needle in a pinch, but if you carry a knife every day you could always cut it, or mash one end until the plug comes loose. Just an idea.

  • What's needed, and nothing more.

    TNX for sharing!

  • @lostburro -- At least in my opinion...

  • @Gomez8136

I hear you! I see some peoples EDC and I can't figure out how they can even walk. Three/four guns, pepper spray, five/six flashlights, Tazer, 12/13 knives, spare Tazer cartridge, two/three larger capacity magazines for each gun they carry. four/five speedloaders for the revolvers.

I live in the Humboldt County of Oregon (pot farmers heaven) and even I don't feel THAT threatened. I think there's a fine line between being "prepared" and being "paranoid".

  • @lostburro -- Small world. I lived outside of Eugene, OR in the late 90s.

  • @Gomez8136

Well, if you ever make it back to the Left Coast for, say, a training in the SAC area with, say, Zombie Tactics, or the like, let me know! I would like to attend.

    Have an AWESOME 2012!

  • @lostburro Is this a YT video? I think what they may have been saying is that they do EDC those items periodically, but not everything all at the same time. I have watched a lot of EDC videos and never seen anybody claim to tote near that much stuff. You may have also seen a gag video.

  • Why not exchange one of the blades for a small multitool like Leatherman Squirt or heck, why not carry a Swissarmy knife? When you're around "regular" people, no one is scared of a Swissarmy knife and yet I use one all the time. Anyway... you have an interesting setup no doubt! I prefer smaller/lighter items but whatever you feel comfortable with is what a person should carry.

  • @KiloSierraAlpha -- There is a Leatherman Micra on the key ring that I forgot to mention. I used to carry an old Leatherman SideClip but it is no longer serviceable and they don't make anything slim with a pocket clip nowadays.

  • Are serious EDC? I carry a gun, knive, and pepper spray. Thanks for sharing.

  • @sonnysand -- Yes.

  • My gosh, you're carrying at leat 25 extra lbs. Thanks for the videos, always look forward to seeing them and learning something new.

  • @danzak44 -- Back in the day when we all ran custom 5-inch 1911s and leather gear, there was a lot more weight! ;) This loadout is probably no more than 5 or 6 lbs total.

  • Thanks for taking the time to share this, Paul. One suggestion: it would be helpful to have a list of the names of the various pieces of gear - I didn't catch the name of the knives, had to go back and listen to it a couple of times.

Would be nice to have it spelled out. Links to your buddy and the place in OK that makes the Kydex sheath would be helpful, too.
