  • Even with splitting the video into 2 parts, it's still epic! Probably my favorite battle theme in the series, along with Prelude to War.

  • 4 models of cylon dislike it's music! FRAK YOU!

  • I wish this video had the episode playing silently, so we knew exactly where the music matched up.

  • @alexpageau That's kind of a problem, because the music stopped at some points, and also didn't go in this exact order.

  • Dear Bear McCreary, HOW?! you mind must be filled with musical genius! I think you were Beethoven in your past life. You my friend ROCK!

  • 4 people are cylons.

  • And THAT, ladies and gents, is how a final battle track is done.

  • To be honest I liked the fact that this series showed the mire human part than just fighting cylons cause most of the time the fleet was bordering a civil war this was quite on the mark

  • battlestar galactica online . bigpoint. so fun. see you there.

  • @Kestral8 already play it ;)

  • @ 4:36 the action begins.. Love it

  • @volkan0621 as soon as the action began my speaker loudness grew to max!

  • EPIC!

  • I love all of Sci-Fi, but it's sad for me because I never got really interested in it until this series came to an end. =( But it seems like a really great show with awesome music!

  • @starflame34 Same here. I feel your pain. :]

  • i like all sci-fi i really dont have time to argue with trolls

  • to be honest, i dislike most scifi. but when it comes to battlestar galactica, i admit its the best thing ive ever seen

  • Such an amazing soundtrack ! Bear McCreary did a great job..and thank god there's a part 2

  • i like most sci-fis

although i dont like star trek much..

stargate and bsg is win tho

  • BSG is a sexy, sexy show.

  • Four Cavils didn't like this song

  • 4 cylons dont like this music

  • for those who cant spell LIKE you spell it without DIS

  • CAUTION listen to this on LOUD speakers because no other audio devices can actaully produce this much epic without frying

  • How do you hit a dislike button on this!!! ?!?

  • i bet the 4 dislikes were disgruntled trek fans

  • @BSG062 NO NO! I am a track fan,, and BSG ROCKS non the less!

  • @BSG062 I like star trek and bsg u idiot so go fuck yourself."disgruntled trek fans" , world would be a better place without you and the idiots that thumbed u up.

  • are the songs on this playlist in reverse order? I ask because "Assualt on the colony part 1" comes after part 2

  • LOVE the track; I think Bear McCreary is a genius.

And I don't know if it's been already said, but on the actual soundtrack there's about 7 more minutes to this track. It's about 15 1/2 minutes long. But worth every second.

  • @krazy05 theres a part 2

  • ... do a much better job of getting the sheer epicness across while also being less bloated. That said, this still _IS_ a pretty darn good piece. With the possible exception of "Lords Of Kobol" (season 2 OST), I don't think Bear has created a single BSG piece that I don't like.

  • For the record, I'm a huge BSG fan and I love the BSG soundtrack, even this particular piece. But IMO it's not the best or even one of the best. Assault On The Colony is just a bit too convoluted for my liking ... it just crams pretty much every single BSG theme into one piece and adds a lot of drums and percussion ... I feel it's trying to do a bit too much.

Pieces like "The Signal", "Resurrection Hub", "Storming New Caprica", "Worthy Of Survival" and "Prelude to War" [continued in next post]

  • EPIC is the right word ! Pure war music !!! If anyone have a stronger word than "epic", let me know ^^

  • Great track !!!!!!

  • such an amazing soundtrack, unlike anything else around, and i'm finding it hard to accept that it was from a TV show...this kinda of soundtrack usually accompanies a big hollywood movie!

  • @pierrepepi Not to be redundant, but just apply the frequently used terminology, just think of BSG as one "Epically" long movie!! ;)

  • I simply cannot handle how uniquely beautiful and epic the entire BSG soundtrack is. Bear McCreary outdid himself. There are few songs, let along entire tracks of musical scores that evoke a such an emotional response from me.

  • I like the little glimmer of hope at 0:45

  • Wait, so why did you cut out Galacticas fight scene music? Or am i just missing something?

  • stupid scenario. I'd do better..... But nice sound

  • I met Katee Sackoff once!

  • Battlestar Galactica isn't a soap opera, it is in a category called Space opera

  • fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking fracking

  • @heywatchme101 fracking good

  • @heywatchme101 shut the frack up

  • I must say this music is so cool. I'm probably going to get voted down for this but the show just wasn't so good and would have been a MILLION times better if they had more battle sequences like the final fight. At least the show went out with a bang.

  • @CurstSaden

I thought the battle sequences were made better by the fact that they DIDN'T have a battle every episode. You can't sit there and tell me that Galactica jumping into an atmosphere, launching vipers while screaming toward the ground, and then jumping away seconds before impact wasn't the most badass thing you've ever seen on TV.

Besides, that's what ran the old series into the ground early: they had battles every episode and couldn't keep up with the costs that entailed.

  • All right I'll give you that. Action all the time would get kinda old. I just think the new Galactica could have used a little more action than it showed. You have to admit it was kind of like a soap opera. In my opinion the whole drama-thing works much better in Caprica.

And I wasn't criticizing the whole drop-into-the-atmosphere-and-jump-away-thing. I thought that was awesome too. They should have had one or two other epic moves like that!

  • @CurstSaden Um...

    -Battle of Ragnar Anchorage

-33 (all of its space stuff)

-Battle of the Resurrection Ship (Major destruction)

-Battle of New Caprica (Pegasus to the rescue)

Just to name a few. Let's not even talk about Daybreak.

  • @OJtheModerator

He who believeth in me: The Ionian Nebula battle

  • @Hauntedman1 Thank you.

  • @OJtheModerator You forgot the Ice Planet battle in Razor with a young Adama. It had 3 frakking Battlestars going at it and one even exploded! FRAKKING EPIC!

  • @PegasusViperAce75 You're right, I did. It's not a complete list, obviously. Could a full list even fit in one comment?

  • @OJtheModerator no, probably not. BSG had more awesome battle scenes than all of Star Trek combined. With the possible exception of DS9 but they used a lot recycled footage.

  • @PegasusViperAce75 Only other show to get near the epicness of BSG spacebattles was Babylon 5... waaaaaayyy back

  • @CurstSaden Battles in every epside would have resulted in this turning into the same ridiculous, campy crap show that the original BSG was. The new BSG was telling a story ... it used battles to move that story along, not just for the sake of having fancy space battles. Too many battles and there wouldn't have been any time to evolve the story arc.

  • Alright be honest, who else freaked the frak out when it suddenly cut off in the end. I did.

  • Great soundtrack! did Bear win awards for his Battlestar Galactica soundtrack?.. Its the BEST.

  • man 3:27 to 3:47 is amazing. anyone know where in the soundtrack i can find more tracks like that part?

  • Mandala in the Clouds has epic moments

  • I'm not an expert guide to the exquisite McCreary tracks for this excellent series, but are you possibly looking for Passacaglia from Season One? Have a listen on YouTube... Any use?

  • does anyone remember the music that played on sci fi when theyd play the following weeks teaser episode?? It was real simple it was just a violin song playing. Its stuck with me for a long time but cant seem to find it

  • I want to be buried with this music ! No joke ! I love you Bear McCreary !!!

  • A good sentiment, but I'd rather live with this music and enjoy it longer...

  • yeah, its a shame they dont make more TV series like this, just because mindless housewives like watching jeapordy and don't like things in space

  • wacth caprica its shows how bsg all began

  • you dont imagine for 1 second i havent been waiting for caprica ever since it was announced do you :p

  • thats more steriotypical (did I spell that right?) because my mom actually loved this series XD

  • I have a feeling someday Bear will release more of the soundtrack. I've still not been able to find the music right after Laura yells I'm coming for all of you.

  • He releases a lot of information about stuff like that on his blog. There is an album coming out for the music from Razor and The Plan (which you can preorder on amazon, I already have).

I distinctly recall him saying something on his blog about a potential future 'extras' album, and that he would welcome input from fans for the tracks they were most interested in seeing on the album.

  • Hopefully that part will make it in. The part after Laura yells and we see the imposing length and breadth of the basestar

  • I LOVE that scene

  • Where can i get thisss?!?!?!?!

  • You could buy the CD...:P lol

  • The old BSG was epic in its own goofy way the movie is amazing the emotional playback between Lorne Green and Richard Hatch is amazing. The new BSG though ticked ALL the boxes in its used Sci-Fi look for the humans and Clinical cleaness for the Cylons.

Lat Season was a cracker too all leading up to that emotional season finale all in all superb.

  • luv it luv it luv it!

  • Music is what made the new one really amazing in my opinion. They meshed these songs so well with what was going on.

  • Yeah the old Music was more Star Wars like and wasn´t taht epic as the new Soundtrack. The japaneese Drums r awesome

  • The Old BSG is pretty cool too bit the nes BSG is 100 times better i think.

  • new BSG wasn't just a star wars cash is clone -_-

  • @MCulpa he means the 70's bsg and that's what the 70's version was.

  • @GoldenIgnorance to compare BSG with the Star Wars movies is like comparing a Lamborghini... with a Prius! The only ups that Star Wars has over BSG is that it came first, had many more scenes with SFX, and Light-sabers...that's it.

  • why do you say that? i mean we are all entitled to our opinion but im just wondering why you think the show is so bad to justify calling it an "abortion of a franchise".

  • 4:45 -> End rox

  • Why does everyone idealize classical music? Especially Mozart (bach is waay better) It suffers from the same problem as victorian writing. Too much boring-paid-by-word-BS.

Modern composing better in the sense that it's more direct, more emotional, with more range and exotic interesting sounds. And Bear McCreary is showing promise of being one of the very finest modern composers around. He is truly on level with the likes of Hans Zimmerman (forget Howard Shore).

    This piece is amazingly epic.

  • The reason why people idealise classical music, particular Mozart, is because structurally it is next to perfect, as well as being emotional if in a more restrained way.

Let's put it another way, they created all the rules, so composers like Bear McCreary could break them. If you don't know the rules, you can't break them, simple as that.

And Howard Shore is a genius.

  • Agree completely. Mozart's music is incredibly emotional. Just not in the way some people think it should be.

  • @NeoFallR Agree.

  • Wow, I do not know how to respond to this. Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach are above any modern composer in terms of just ability and speed to compose.

Boring? Thats your opinion, not a fact thank God. Mozart wrote music for a similar reason as this, for Operas which are essentially plays, and plays evolved into motion pictures.

However, Bear McCreary, Hans Zimmer, and Howard Shore are THE FINEST composers today. The FINEST. But I disagree with your interpretation of classical music.

  • Well I look at it this way. Changing genres, Jimi Hendrix is widely accepted as the greatest guitarist of all time. Sure there are guys today who can do what he did and more, but he broke all the boundaries to begin with. If it weren't for him others may not have followed.

Same goes for classical. And what is your problem with people idealising classical music anyway? Better than 99% of the shitty music of today.

  • @JulyForToday I had to sign in to respond to your post. I couldn't disagree with you more. Bach is a musician I dislike so much. Mozart did it for me, faaaaaaaar more than bark. Bach is so drooney and boring.

  • @JulyForToday Classical music was just written to appeal to the people of the time, in the same way that some guy covered in tattoos and jacked up on steroids can get a drum set and scream sort of the right notes and make platinum records. I think that a lot of classical music still has a place today, but I also find that this type of music shows, like you said, a more range. Although, I gotta say, Mozart's Requiem is pretty amazing.

  • He may not lived up to the classic composers of all time, but in case of TV scores, I think he's the best there is. I haven't heard anything on TV that can rival what Bear does. Can't wait to see his future projects.

  • Just one word wouah i love this music and Bear mc Creary

  • Epitome of epic: 5:04 to 5:15

  • Bear is the single greatest composer who ever lived, in my opinion living up to the greats such as Mozart, Beethoven and Bach. The made was a musical mastermind, a genius to rival Stephen Hawking in his own field. Assault on the Colony is his finest hour, a shiny example of the utter brilliance of this man. One day I hope to meet him.

  • I think perhaps you overstate the case. Seriously, if you think Bear McCreary is equal to those guys, you need to listen to those guys more. But he is good and I admire his work on the series hugely.

    Good call.

  • (In reference to the comparison with Bach, Mozart and Beethoven) I do however think that some of pieces (not this so much) would work very well as stand alone concert peices even for audiences with no interest in the series (poor sad peopele :-))

If McCreary introduces BSG fans to middle eastern and orchestral music along the way, this is a great thing too. Hopefully his (battle)star is very much in the ascendant... look forward to hearing more:-)

  • @DarkBladeAngel 110% agree. When I first heard the music, I was STUNNED at how incredible it was(and still is). As you say, 'UTTER BRILLIANCE' :). However, if I ever met him, I'd probably squeal like a groupie and start crying HAHA.

  • @Papatauenga

Do a wayne's world with ' Were not worthy!'

  • @DarkBladeAngel gonna have to argue this one. He does some great shit with it all, not gonna deny that, he had a way of putting it together perfectly, but unlike the three greats, he had everything already there for him,. All of the techniques, insturments, etc. This is awesome shit no doubt but it is still reminiscent of hans zimmer and danny elfman, among others. Not genius, just really well done

  • @galahuth Yeah, you're 100% correct. Twoish years does a lot to your musical tastes. Looking back, he's great, yeah, but not as great as I was making out when I wrote that.

  • @DarkBladeAngel 1st i love youtube because you can call someone out from a year past, kinda amuses me, 2nd that does him a big credit though, obviously it openeed you up to further intellectual development in music, which is awesome no matter what or 3rd i'm just way off base all of the sudden

  • Bear McCreary is the John Williams of our generation. As a student film maker i hope and pray to work with him some day

  • working with bear mccreary would be the honor beyond honors

  • if the old themes are in this song i can't pick them out :( anyone wanna point them out for me ??

  • I love the ethnic mash up he's got going here, especially toward the end with the bag-pipes segueing into the middle eastern flutes into the Kodo-like drum and stick beats...its like the entire human race got together to fight the Cylons with music.

  • You want to know why this song is in 2 parts? Because if you listened to it all at once your head would EXPLODE from the sheer EPICness!

  • Love how McCreary mixes in all the old themes.

  • I odered the CD on Amazon. But it's not here yet :( Can't wait

  • Thank you for uploading this. 5 stars! They really pulled out all the stops for the finale.

  • Absolutely awesome.

  • Ridiculously epic. I mean, epic has never been this epic before.

  • "when you run out of ammo, start throwing rocks"

  • Funny thing is, they wouldn't have any rocks, being in space and all, perhaps implying that they won't be alive to run out of ammo.

Though there were a lot of rocks OUTSIDE the ship...

  • Or maybe also implying to do WHATEVER it takes to win

  • @Zefuthecasamuhi the "rocks outside" are called asteroids.

  • Great track but

why the drum and stick overlay?

also, the skipped the part where galacticas under fire which should be at 4:19.

  • I just cut it in half when editing, right around 7:15, didn't edit anything out.

  • I didn't mean you, (I missed a Y its "They skipped the part")

I meant whoever put the music on the CDs the track jumps straight from when Galactica jumps to the colony to when Sam disables the cylon batteries. between them there should be the music from when Galactica was being bombarded.

  • oh okay, dang, you've got quite an ear!!

  • @SurfCompton He has two...probably.

  • I caught that too. I remember reading somewhere (it might have been in Bear's blog) that these tracks had to be edited so they wouldn't last forever. Think about it, how long did the battle of the colony last? This is already a 15+ minute track - it could have gone on for at least a half hour if cuts and splices weren't made. =8-O

  • It shows up later in the track though... Which is weird.

  • Bear McCreary arranges the songs differently when he puts them on the CDs because he wants it to be a coherent piece rather than a score piece that has odd pauses in it. He does this with most of the tracks to make the songs make more musical sense. Although, in this case, the track is already 15 minutes long. If he put any more stuff in there, our heads would asplode. ;)

  • @FLICKGEEK u have an amazing ear!!!!!!!

  • @FLICKGEEK

I'm pretty sure it would have been Bear's call. Seems he likes to rework some of his tracks for the OST. for example, Lords of Kobol wasn't the same version as in the show. Neither is Gaeta's Lament. I think he makes certain artistic changes to make the music more enjoyable to listen on it's own, apart from the show.

But yeah, I found it a little jarring myself cause I tend to picture the show while listening, and it's goes out of order. X-D

  • Nothing was actually cut, this is how the song was written and performed. There was some editing done after the score was made and the person who arranged the piece for the show actually stole some stuff from later in the track to insert here.

Bear said that if it was played exactly as it was in the show it would not sound very good. It worked in the show because there was lots of other stuff going on to distract from it. This is how the piece was originally intended.

  • hey quit with the hating of

    Arkalius80 he's 100% right

  • Comment removed

  • @FLICKGEEK The part you are listening for starts at around 4:38

  • Does this song have the part where Baltar and Six find Hera and start having visions of the opera house (the passacaglia theme starts playing) and then they see the final five standing up in the CIC (the Watchtower theme starts playing)?

  • think thats the second part

  • Beyond Epic!!!!
