I stumbled across a video of Felix winning her first world championship and I was immediately driven to find out more about pole. Now I am hooked on pole. I know I will never get to the point of performing as starting at 50 with no dance background does limit my potential. However my fitness level has increased along with my flexibility. The biggest surprise was the increase in confidence that poling brings you. Felix and others at the top show how poling is an art and how it is sexy NOT sleazy.

@Vjgoth strippers didn't create the pole dance. just for the record pole dance came from the chinese pole which was made from wood and at first men was doing acrobatics on it. girls like felix who pole dance for fun and fitness must be really proud of their self coz the thing they do is extremely difficult.. plus they don't strip for anyone who's drawling at their immoral dance..instead their audience is always amazed from their skill.. strippers are strippers and pole dancers are pole dancers

I agree with her. I think there's a huge push to make poledancing mainstream, and they're approaching it from the fitness and sport angle, because it sells well to people who want to get in shape doing something they enjoy.

But when an art becomes a sport, a great part of the beauty is leached out of it. The emphasis goes onto technique and power rather than grace and showmanship. It is more entertaining to watch an ice-dancing exhibition than olympic figure skating for example.

@lmpulse I agree. My teacher was a ballet dancer for years and now does pole dancing. So she really emphasizes the dance part of it. For someone like me that is good, because I have a hard time with tricks. It takes me a while to learn them, and in the mean time, I can dance and still enjoy the art. If I had gone someplace I think that was just about tricks, I would have given up on the form a long time ago.
