This is what people call "Nuevo Flamenco". Not really traditional Spanish Flamenco, but fusing some of the traditional sounds with modern sounds. It also tends to be a bit "watered down" for commercial purposes, so that it fits more into that "easy listening" category. And I don't mean that in a negative way. A guy who made this style real popular is Ottmar Liebert. Check him out.
i heard this song so many times before, but little did i know is was by Slash... that he also played this on a electric acoustic guitar with NYLON strings
Some jazz influence, definitely some flamenco as well. When I first heard he was doing something like this I figured, great another rocker playing at jazz (a few have transitioned nicely not most). Heard this a half dozen times before learning it was Slash! Kudos and major props to a talented artist. My faves have always been those who can swim in different currents so to speak. Joe Jackson, Larry Carlton, Talk Talk, even SRVs Riviera Paradise. Just love it when real artists flex their muscles!
ok this beautiful piece i would say is a conglomeration of gypsy jazz sound, the fluidity of classical, and the vibe of flamenco. interesting combination.
@xxxxgame - Yea Slash can save humanity with his skills. Aliens would come one day to destroy earth and Slash will play for them and they will leave us in peace.
@newsiemen4u I hear you. I really like his playing and a lot of people aren't aware of the fact that he does other things outside of rock. Although I personally consider Django Reinhardt as the ultimate gutarist :)
@ChiTown7721 in terms of riffs and solos written - you gotta love slash. In terms of technical proficiency & mind blowing improvisations, there is still noone to touch Django - 60 years after his death. I've spent years trying to play Improvisation number 1 as he does & still a long way off!

I too have to express my amazement this is SLASH. I have heard this song on The Wave for at least 7 years and identified the artist last night for the first time on SHAZAM. WOW
lol, no. j-lo's husband, marc anthony, very famous musician, mostly spanish music. this sounds like a marc anthony song. im gonna check out this marc antoine guy though
OK. I didn't realize that Marc Anthony was a famous musician. I knew that he was J-Lo's husband and that he had done some acting. Thanks for the heads up...you learn something new every day. And do check out Marc Antoine.. He's my favorite acoustic guitarist and I don't think you'll be disappointed.
this song was made with that Marta Sanchez person or something right? And yeah, just so people know, this is Slash for real. It's for a movie soundtrack I'm pretty sure.
do me a favor please dont go around saying crap like that. he learned just like everyone else.......through practice. there are many better than him and they all had to start with the basics. sure u can be born musically gifted but thats not everyones case. slash is no exception
I wont believe Slash wrote this song unless there was some written proof or video with credits with his name on them..is there?? if its tru..right on bro..tho ??
right right,, i hear it..great great song..he should continue this route instead of the same crap thats coming out 2day..to much of the same anymore,,this is his best work
its a nice piece...I remember when I was listening to this on KKSF after the song they said..."Obsession Confession, by Slash from the heavy metal band Guns N' Roses"...I laughed :P
I called BS on my best bud when he 1st told me he did this. Guess I called it dead-assed wrong! Freaking aswsome and totally unexpected work which he should be proud of and should stand the test of time. I've had more respect for him ever since; my fave artists are those not wearing blinders & stuck in one genre. As with Page, Beck, Lukather, Walsh, Carlton & Claptain Slash's proven he can move where he wants.
Was a bit surprise when I found out Slash played the spanish guitar in this but then most talented musicians are influenced by many genres. Thought for the longest Marc Antoine had did this piece...it reminded me of his song "Latin Quarter." Both are nice! Love that sound! Nice post!
I love his flamenco playing, he's on one of my Narada flamenco compilation cds!!! I have to admit I was surprised to see him on it, but he does flamenco real good!!!
