@Igorsov Im hoping to change that. Im hoping to find a way to bring games like this to the xboxlive indie game marketplace with the use of modernday file compressors. The problem with indie games is that Microsoft requires they be no bigger than 150mb in size. So 3d games are quite limited due to insane file sizes from their models. But with good compression software this could be less of a problem.

@ReconUnitZero Since the source code for this game is freely available you'd think at least someone would try to do a graphical overhaul of the game. I don't follow the Quake modding community, so I've no clue if there is any kind of graphics mod projects in the works though.

@Anomaly188 Only about a million of them. Seriously, Quake 2 has a ton of engines out there with all the graphical bling like real-time per-pixel lighting and whatnot that you could imagine. There's even multiple projects that completely retexture the games. The thing that is missing are higher-poly versions of the in-game models. Aside from one or two of them, no one's really touched those. For engines, check out KMQuake2, EGL, Q2XP, and Berserker@QuakeII.

God I miss the days when games where made out of love and required skill and thinking to operate. Nowdays games are designed cashcows, glittering bullshit for the mindless with sequels released exactly 17 seconds after the original. The same applies to soundtracks - Q2 is amongst very few games during developement which somebody actually payed attention to how important music can be in building the right atmosphere for the game. I fell in love with Sonic Mayhem ever since Q2.

really, half life isn't a straight off shooter, it has more exploration and puzzles, and it was noted as one of the first shooters with a really cohesive plot, the second one is much better, especially with the Havok engine, which gave it Newtonian physics

Well, Half life invented some very important level design techniques that you can't find in quake 2. Half life had such an awesome level design that it hides the fact the story isn't original at all and that the game is very linear. That why, to many people, HL is better than Q2

I think that both doom 3 and quake 4 failed in playing awesome metal songs in the background like the old games used too. When I first heard the menu song for doom 3 I thought the entire doom 3 gamer would have kick ass songs in it. Instead it was just some stupid silent with some background chatter. Don't you think they could of at least put an option for music or no music in the game. Anyways just put some kick ass Metal playng in the background and enjoy killing zombies and demons.
