This movie KILLED the alien franchise for me! Instead of repeating what was already said, lemme just give you an example:
Did you see the part where one of the aliens bit the general in the back of the head? He reaches back and pulls out a piece of his brain, and looks at it! The movie is full of ridiculous jokes like this one. It's just stupid!
U bloody suck this film is brilliant! It's science fiction so the cloning thing that u thought was stupid is actualli amazing!! Ffs u clearly don't know a good film when u see it!! U all suck!
Rob Perlman's character was the only one who fit into this film. Everyone else had shaky motivations and inconsistant reactions, in what was, lets face it, a pretty mindless shootemup. However, the badass mercenary stereotype was the least jarring aspect of the film and it's characters.
I liked this movie TO A POINT. I saw it for the first time a few days ago and am I the only one who cringed whenever the characters would repeat a word like five times? There was one or two cool death scenes and the water scene was new and fresh, but once we got to that humalien thing the movie lost all credibility. Not to mention that this is the first movie to HAVE survivors and I don't care about any of them.
I think Alien Resurrection is underrated first off its good to see the aliens more as characters, pirate characters are pretty cool, new Ellen Ripley is kinda creepy and cool. The sexual side of the aliens are back. Its pretty obvious that they were still studying the failed clones and its to show Ripley still has human in her when she puts them one of them out of their misery. But overall I think EACH alien movie should be appreciated in their own right because each one is different.
Bad dialogue, goofy futuristic tools (seriously, breath sensors, what did they use before that, fart sensors!?) , inappropriate humor ( like when an alien cracks open the skull of the general guy from behind, it just doesn't work in an Alien movie), and an all around forgettable characters. Compare characters like say Hicks, Vasquez, Newt, and Burke to um...awkward guy in a wheel cheers, the CSI guy with dreadlocks, nameless soldier and EVIL scientist man.
alien was amazing, aliens was also amazing, while alien 3 wasn't as good as the other 2 it was still a very good film and in my opinion was where the ripley's character was the best and also I think it's impressive that they could pull together a good movie without having a script at first which shows us how good of a director fincher is, but resurrection and was nothing compared to all the others in the series, it wasn't complete shit, but held up to no levels of the previous films.
@MrBOPEsquad2-at that time it made sense that they cloned alien dna, they have been around a while.there was alot of mystique with the new ripley being mixed.this move was perfect and well acted.but i understand, its cool to be negative .secondly, your user name sucks
@hithisisderek237 this movie was very necessary,it has ripley at another level,a steady theme threw all the movies,is that the aliens has taken everything away from ripley, and now after death, her humanity being pure is gone.that doctor was evil the whole time,it was obvious.the people in charge were always shady and bad.did you watch any of these movies?
@hithisisderek237 isn't the point of sci-fi to do things that might not be plausable?the cloning was not shitty writing.the dna in the breath opens doors,a tuna sandwich wouln't effect that.these are ruff smart asses, there response was inline for what they were.what are people smoking to make them so negative?scientists have these clones around to study, preserving specimens happens in real life.your really stretching for criticisms.it must suck going through life being a critic.
i think the reason for this film and bringing ripley back was so they could do the whole passing the torch thing with call, some how a queen alien or theres more than one ripley alien cross would start a earth hive. so alien 5 would have centered more on call being the female hero and starting a whole new series with her from a andriod pov. just my thoughts anyways
That actually doesn't sound bad. I liked the androids in the Alien series, so if they showed flashbacks of her creation and the recall, and had an artificial person's point of view, that would be a something a little worth watching.
I never even thought about it that way. Thank you for expanding my imagination further.
They explain being able to clone Ripley with the alien inside her? The Alien's DNA mixed with Ripley's so when they cloned her it was still inside her and there's even clear evidence of this, the queen alien has a human reproductive system. So no, not bad writing when you think about it. This one is my favourite after Aliens.
this is my favorite one in the franchise next to the first one i felt it really made up for the crappy third film, much better effects, more action, more suspense, and i dont get why somany ppl were down on the characters, i thought it was cool giving them a little more style rather than having them run around screaming the whole movie and calling some of the things in the movie rediculous is kind of dumb i mean it is a scifi movie, the visual look of this one is done really well too.
@Cropsy25 I totally agree. One of the best in the series. I feel like this one was very underrated. People only criticize this film because of Ripley being cloned. The guy who reviewed this forgot that Aliens harness their form off of the DNA of a human so it would only make sense that cloning Ripley they would find the Alien queen because of the DNA the Alien was extracting and mixing in with Ripley's. Resurrection was great people are just to critical.
@extremeawesomesummer And of course there is that time where Clements took Blood samples from Ripley before getting scragged, and by then the queen... so yeah, it does make sense.
I didn't like the humor in this 4th installment, but I think it was meant to be the opposite of the dour and dark Alien 3. Also, the big point of this film was how much the alien and Ripley had merged. I also think a man being shot 3 or 4 times but still being able to strategically place the chestburster through another man's head was highly unrealistic.
Good review, I totally agree. It's decent. Everyone just downs this movie, which I can understand because they associate it to the previous much better movies (personally, my favorite movie of all times is Alien). But all things aside, Alien Resurrection is very watchable, and enjoyable even with its flaws. I must say though, I've always thought this movie was the most sickening (graphically and in terms of some ideas) of the series, which isn't a bad thing.
I couldn't believe it when Michael Wincott's character died so early. He was my favorite character. Other than that and some cool action scenes I hate this movie.
@cnneo I've actually read early drafts of the story, the one Whedon wrote wasn't that bad. The 1st and the 3rd suffered this: editorial mandates, and editors who think they can make a better story writing for the writers, instead of working with the writers
I was soo pumped up to see this movie when I saw the trailer in the theater,in fact soo pumped up I no longer cared for what I had gone to see in the first place. Then a friend of mine saw it before me and said it was "yea umm ok", I didnt want to believe that until I saw it myself and wow, part of me wish it hadnt been made, though I did enjoy some parts,it wasnt all bad.I reckon Pearlman and Christy should have been in Alien 3 as bad ass prisoners instead
I must say this movie has alot of cool ideas in it and some good action scenes but the comic relief and cheesey knockoff Aliens characters are annoying. All in all it's ok but the series was already finished with the downer of a third film.
I've just watched the infamous basketball scene where Ripley throws the ball into the net whilst she's got her back to it. Its was REAL! LOL no affects shot, no camera work. Weaver actually did it . I thought that was awesome when I watched that.
I really disliked the castingRipley kinda acts like a robot, the guy from CSI was strangeWinona Ryder I cant stand the ending was weird Ripleys powers were awkward but Ron Perlman I liked even though he was a dick. I liked the concept that she is different &struggling to find her place in the world but i felt it went to waste. But all in all i thought it was suspenseful creepy but I wanted more. Again i hope the prequel actually turns Alien/Aliens into a trilogy. 1.5/5
I always thought it was quite a good film to have after Alien 3 because it brings the happy mood back, because I'm pretty sure everyone feels the same when I say that Alien 3 was a masterpiece however it brought down the mood, Alien Resurrection was just the opposite and it was the happy way to end it all for Ripley and it is pretty cool to see Ron Perlman in an Alien film.
I agree Resurrection really killed the franchise and was full of shit.

Alien 3 ended the story on a strong note, may not have been as good as the other 2
it still had good acting and a honorable death
so id much rather have left the whole story at that
