the cover for Roxanne shouldn't be taken too seriously... they do it just for fun. Which is why they bring their tour manager on stage to play the bass. In his tour diary Quest said it was just a crazy idea they had after playing soooooo many shows on tour.
@hsal20 well if 'nobody' cares what I think, then it's perfectly likely that 'nobody' cares what YOU think, or anyone who comments here for that matter. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, otherwise none of us would make comments on these things. Nice to know I sparked some real lively debate!!
I honestly would rate this band now as accomplished, but this performance is utter crap!
@Irishroyal . if you really want to understand the roots, checking out their own music is good, but seeing them live is more than necessary. there is no substitute for that experience.

As a bass player myself, I appreciate the guest player here getting the white reggae back beat just right, but the guitar is too quick, and the drummer always misses the lovely "hold on a mo" delay at the end of each instrumental.
The singing! That's what I had to laugh at!! Eddie Murphy in '48 hours' was better!!!
So my first impression of this band was their dire U2 tribute and this badly recorded total miss. I promise I'll look out for them in future, but they're not my taste anyway.
Im giving your comment a thumbs up just because MUSICALLY speaking you are pretty much right. But being a fan of these guys I gotta say you need to see some more vids of them, they are indeed VERY good musicians. The U2 tribute was actually pretty damned good man, takes balls to cover a band like that. I dont understand the "not my style" thing....good musicianship is good musicianship, regardless of style. The best artists cover many styles. That being said, yeah, this is pretty fucking bad.
I like to think I can be corrected, if necessary. Seldom happens, though. LOL.
I found this band while searching for U2 vids - The U2 tribute @NAACP. I was impolite, but not abusive, trying to say "I can't rap - I don't think these guys can play or sing" Comment quickly removed!
U2 always admitted they couldn't do others' songs. I listened to Roots' own stuff, and was impressed, particularly with 'Here I Come' - they ARE good at their own stuff, but their U2 tribute was insulting to U2, IMHO.
Are these guys a spoof band? I've just commented on how bad they were doing a U2 'tribute' and now find this!
If this is meant to be a serious 'experimental' attempt at a rock classic, this band should be chucked in the middle of the Atlantic. Please tell me it's a joke!
hahahahaha!!! that was quest?? that makes this even better! yeah, it sounded horrible but they were just having a good time. i'm sure if you were at that show you would have been loving that shit.
I think their guitarist sang this at their Dublin gig last year.. he sounded fine as he'd also sang Erykah Badu's part for 'you got me' . Legendary Roots opened with 'the web'.. does it get much better?
ahaha in baltimore they sang this, and it was amazing, i had no idea who was singing, and suddenly i see ?uestlove, belting this out. the concert was soo tight.
