If you're standing on public property while you're filming, there's nothing stopping you from filming any building. If you're doing it from private property, the most they can do is to make you move off the property.
Corporations will try to use intimidation to get you to stop filming (this is very common), and some have attempted to protect the visual image of their buildings in court before, but it has never stuck. The most that can happen is that you can run into a civil trademark violation suit if you then use the image of the property for commercial purposes that doesn't fall under a "fair use" exception, such as legitimate parody or critique. You should have just hung around and kept filming.
Follow up, shoot from the sidewalk, if a cop comes, ask his/her interpretation of the law. Many cops have no idea of what the law is, they just regurgetate what is told to them.

same type of thing happend to us on Aug 11th at CBC headquarters in Canada, there is no law saying you can't film buildings. Anyone who tells you that you can't film their building is completly wrong.
