You could have cut WAY down on the time by starting the fight by throwing a gas grenade, and then laying into him with a Combat Rifle. Even on Give Me Deus Ex, the fight was usually over by the time the gas effect wore off.

Ok I've shot this guy in the head with the augmented edition sniper rifle 3 times aside from head shots from some small arms. I don't really have any ammo left. UNLIKE in this videu there are NO barrels for me to throw! What the freak am I supposed to do???

@12Macedonian12 There are always barrels... otherwise you'll just have to go back through the level, look for ammo, or go even further back and invest into the Typhoon augmentation, 2 or 3 Typhoons should do the trick here

@kwastimus LoL in my particular situation I believe that his random firing had blown up most if not all the barrels\fire extinguishers. (I had been hit&running&hiding for a long time). Stupid me was only using one save slot for "neatness" so I eventually started the game over and made sure I was better prepared when fighting him. When I eventually did I used grenades, stun gun, and a little bit of rifle fire like every one else. Never even got to use Typhoon which I had gotten for this!

@12Macedonian12 I don't know what platform you're playing on, but I think it's the same on all of them... Deus Ex auto saves just before the boss fight, so all you had to do was load the latest auto save and go back into the level. If that wouldn't work, they have a very convenient "previous" auto save loading feature...

little tip:

you have to get him with that poison(so he gets the poison etc) then go to him and let him hit you. So he dont ran out of that poison and he gets a lot of dmg

This was made 3 days after the game came out and was a considerable breakthrough for such a hard challenge. I don't really care at all if you have a better way - I beat him in 21 seconds using a modified version of this strategy. The point of the video is to help people, and that was all I ever cared about.

Sure, it didn't use much ammo, but still.

Here's the strategy that I use.

1. Wait until he's not shooting.

2. Zap him with the stun gun.

3. Pump him with a full clip of shotgun.

4. Find cover and reload.

5. Rinse and repeat.

I lost no health while doing it.

All you need to beat this guy is:

A) A Sniper Rifle (you pick one up in the same level)

B) An EMP Grenade (also same level)

C) The two gas cannisters to the right at the begining of the level

Find cover, throw the emp (as it stuns him for a long time) run and grab a gas cannister throw it at him, grab the other gas can throw it, find cover shot him 2-3 times in the head with the sniper rifle and that should do it. I just did it and only got shot twice on Normal.

you should really upgrade your inventory space - you have 6 weapons and only 1 pack of ammo for each.

EMP grenades also disable him temporarily, allowing you to fling barrels at him with impunity.

Gas canisters and fire extinguishers also stun him for a short time.

Overall, while the fight is annoying, at least it keeps up the deus ex tradition of having at least a couple of ways to solve a problem. The other boss fights don't which is slightly disappointing. But still, DXHR is awesome.

@xDerivative theres an even easier way if you have two emp grenades.

Thorw a nade at his feet when the fight begins.

Run to get the barrel to your left and throw it at him.

Throw the barrel behind him .

throw the toxic canister near the elevator at him.

thow the forth barrel at the middle left of the room at him.

throw the second emp grenade at him and finish him off with a frag grenade.

If you don't have one you can get one from the locker near the first barrel.

A no hit run is possible.

The really EASY way to defeat Barret is first half use the explosive canisters and second half, head shot him as much as possible with a COMBAT RIFLE. I killed him in 2 minutes.

Before i tried this technique i was dying all over the place!

there is a much easier way. Hide in the corner of the room with the weapon cabinet to the left of the door on top of the crates. He tries shooting you through the wall but can't and he can't toss a grenade to your location either. You just pop out shoot a few times and then run back in. Or use the grenades from the weapon crate to kill him. Super easy once you figure out the correct spot.

Good guide. Just done this one and you can actuallly lose him and wait for him to gas himself as well as your running/ throwing barrel trick. If he is gassed ( either by nade or by canister) you can barrel his ass with more time! I also found that using the aug to increase your health bar to 150 which i did beforr this level helps too! It took about 12 rounds of shotgun in thr face to nail him oncr he had been fragged and gassed twice! Hard stuff!!

On this mission if you have the sniper rifle then I suggest using that, it took me 7 shots to his head on medium difficulty, whenever he sees you make a dash for the small room in the corner and hide behind the small ledge with all the supplies on it, he cannot see you if you hide here :)

@craziii3 That's not Give Me Deus Ex difficulty. You can tell because the items are all highlighted, which only occurs in lower difficulties. My video is the hardest difficulty, which is why it is harder to beat him. I will admit though, I didn't see the gas canisters behind you at the beginning - perhaps I'll do it over and post my time. Right now I have 3 videos on backlog and a bunch more I need to get done, so it won't be soon.

Out of the first three bosses, i actually found this boss the hardest (i never actually finished the game because silly me accidentally overwrote my last save file with a new game). But yeah, the second boss requires you to just spam heavy rifle, and the third is ridiculously easy because of revolver explosive ammo. The first one, on the other hand, is actually pretty damn difficult.

Nice guide i died 11 times untill i just realised what i should be doing then did it first time. what i did first though was pick up the gas canister to the right of where you start throw one across the room and throw one at him and run. Basicly when he doesnt no where you are make sure on the otherside of the room. pplayin on hardest difficulty ftw.
