  • That poor bassist... :)

    2:10

  • Yea, this '64-'65 version was THE fastest. Period. I've got other audios from '66 a "tad" slower, but only a "tad" They always took this "up" but this speed was INSANE. Apple Honey was another taken at break-neck speed sometimes. I'm so jelous of people that got to see Woody's band in the '60's, best band EVER!

  • this guys are jammin'

  • Smoldering Swing!!

  • DANG!!!!!!

  • i count somewhere around 6 beats per second or more this is the most insane tempo i've yet seen on youtube 360bpm++

  • I played with Woody in the early 80's and we ALWAYS played Caldonia, and always very fast, but not as fast as this!

  • Incendiary!

I caught the Herd in Miami circa 1980. They featured a version of Caldonia that memorable evening.

  • I heard this Herd in San Francisco at the Off Broadway in North Beach, 1963 or 64. One of Woody's very best bands. But they were ALL good!

  • For a good book about Woody Herman, get "Leader of the Band" by Gene Lees.

  • @brycedanderson shut the fuck up you inconsiderate asshole. it's like you that killed the only true music out their.

  • @OneandOnlyMusician it's *people like you

  • This isn't just a music lesson...It's an encyclopedia.

  • I saw this band play this tune just about this way at the Playboy club in the mid sixties. Playboy Bunnies, Puberty and Woody Herman. No wonder I'm an emotional wreck.

  • Fewer than 4k views is a crime...and guys, your old trombone teachers gives great eyebrow! Remarkable performance....just off the charts. Thanks sooooo much chief for uploading this.

  • I started watching this video.,,,and the next thing I knew, I was staring at the screen, watching the end with my mouth open. Wow.

  • @BigAssTuba and bluesmovers: LOL Berklee, whut whut?! LOL. This band is killer!

  • Hey, wait! Phil was one of my teachers, too! .... AWESOME stuff! Thanks so much for posting it.

  • Just plain WILD!

"That's my trombone teacher Phil Wilson!" he bragged. LOL

I gotta say that Chuck Andrus just blows me away the way he pumped out that bass line! What a workout!

I wonder if he ended up with carpal tunnel syndrome?!

Woody put together some amazing bands!
