You neglect to mention WHY there is more sickle-cell anemia in areas where there is malaria: because a person carrying a single SCA gene (not having the full blown illness) has shown to have increased ability to fight off malaria, thus guaranteeing the continuance of SCA in the population. It's just evolution and geography. Race has very little to do with it. There are European and Asian illnesses with similar effects.
Now, what if this environment also required a higher intelligence for making tools, traps, weapons, clothing, planning for the future, good decision making, self control? And Darwin's theory of natural selection says that when the environment changes, those organisms that are best able to adapt will survive and reproduce, while those that are not, will die off. This at least, is definitely how different races are created.

A Labrador Retriever and a Pit Bull are both dogs. Does that mean there are no differences in temperament or behavior between a pit bull and a lab?

I was responding to a guy who said humans are like dog breeds, Ie. a black person is a pit, euro a lab etc. However, that was a bad analogy, since genetically a lab and a pit are alot more different then an african and a person from europe. A better analogy would be comparing variation within a specific dog breed. Like pits, they come in a plethora of shades yet genetically they are very simular. Every individual is brought up to obey a certain ethical code; some are reinforced at a higher standard then others. For example, blacks have a higher statistic to committ a crime before age 25 than whites because of childhood background. Blacks are always at the bottom of positive social indices, such as education, and at the top of negative social indices, such as illegitimacy. There are no exceptions. They behave just as you would expect a low IQ group to behave. They score lower in IQ tests, so the IQ results fit in with what we observe. What is so hard to understand about that? Again, you suggest IQ scores as if that is a legitimate measurement of a person's entire intellect and full epistemological and ontological reasoning. Moreover, the study you mention contains misleading data in that it represents trends in size as an indicator of intelligence and a testament of the properties of an entire population. Variations in brain size occur in all populations and are gravely affected by factors including environment, nutrition, and biological factors of heredity.

IQ measures a person's ability to function in modern society. They are used extensively in the world of business and commerce, as well as by the civil service and the military. If you think that IQ tests are worthless then you have got some way to go before you can convince the majority of people. Blacks score lower than Chinese on IQ tests, and blacks do all those things we associate with low IQ, crime etc, and Orientals do all those things we assoc. with high IQ. What is so hard about that?

No-one has ever suggested that there are no white criminals. But the proportion of black criminals is far higher. Blacks kill 17 whites for every black killed by whites. Blacks rape whites at a thousand times the rate that whites rape blacks.
Anyway, it is at least a reasonable hypothesis that blacks have lower IQ than orientals and whites, but you, a white person, defend blacks and make excuses for them. A typical white person, standing up for another racial group.

They posted that in the year 2000, 115,589 arrests were made for various crimes (U.S. Department of Justice, 2002). Of those arrests approximately 82-thousand were White, 28-thousand were Black, two-thousand were Native American, two and a half thousand were Asian/Pacific Islander, and one thousand were other (2002).It is the white race that commit the most crimes.

What you often hear is that interpopulation differences in humans (15%) are "small", but what you don't hear is that differences of such a sort are common in animals that are divided into subspecies by biologists. You can now genetically distinguish not only 5 main racial clusters of humans (Negroid, Caucasoid, Mongoloid, Australoid, Amerind), but even an Italian from a Frenchman with the use of 500 000 or more DNA markers.

The issue of race and medicine arises because certain diseases are more common in some ethnic groups than others. One well-known instance is sickle cell anemia, most prevalent in Africans.

What the essentialist argument fails to recognize the nature and history of the disorder itself. Sickle Cell Anemia was and is most common in areas where there had been a considerable amount of malaria and as such "breeding populations" living in that area were more susceptible to anemia. A large area with a high instance of malaria had been the equator belt running through Africa.

Breeding populations in these areas became carriers of the gene for sickle cell anemia and as they migrate around the world, carry the gene with them. Because of the social restrictions to interracial mixing, the gene tended to stay within predominantly African breeding populations (Tashiro, 2001). The gene however is not exclusive to African Americans alone.

The argument as to why diabetes or hypertension hits certain populations does not necessarily have relation to a biological notion of race. The connection to racial or ethnic enclaves have little to do with genetics but social factors relating to diet and fitness as well as environmental resources and racism.

You neglect to mention WHY there is more sickle-cell anemia in areas where there is malaria: because a person carrying a single SCA gene (not having the full blown illness) has shown to have increased ability to fight off malaria, thus guaranteeing the continuance of SCA in the population. It's just evolution and geography. Race has very little to do with it. There are European and Asian illnesses with similar effects.

And Darwin's theory of natural selection says that when the environment changes, those organisms that are best able to adapt will survive and reproduce, while those that are not, will die off. I mean, in ice age Europe ,where there was less sunshine, light skin and hair would have survival value because it takes in more vitamin D allowing those with that trait to survive and reproduce.

Average interpopulation variation in humans (Fst distance) is 0.15, which is more than sufficient for racial classification. Biologists usually consider populations with Fst 0.10 as subspecies. Why should humans be excluded from this biological rule?
