A Website That Can Name That Tune

i just saved midomi to my favorites.

i figured it would be garbage but it finds all kinds of 80's metal like BOLT THROWER, Carcass, Coroner, 80's rap like shante,krs one and new stuff too.

gonna try soundhound too though.

it tells you the song you're looking for, the whole album listing and if there's any notes posted anywhere it brings them up too.

i'm gonna use it to figure out the names of a bunch of songs from jam sessions we did on vhs tape from the 80's.

I'd rather find a website that let you type in part of the lyrics and tell you the song than a website that need to identify the tune, 'cause usually voice recognizition is inaccurate.

Find me a site that search songs from part of the lyrics you type in. That would be much more useful than this one.

i can kinda see where you're coming from but i think it would be better if instead of singing or humming the song, playing the actual song and the website identifying it for you. Similar to the mobile applications that are out right now. If you have lyrics to a song but don't know what it is, i usually type the lyrics in quotes on google followed maybe by the word lyrics in non-quotes.

I get what you're saying but usually when I can't identify a song, it's on tv during a show or something so it's incovenient to record/find to record it then play it back to a website to identify. Too much work just to find the title of a particular song.

Yes, I usually google lyrics but it also take times to search thru the results, especially for obscure songs. A website with a one-stop-shop search engine that only identify lyrics and provides titles would be more helpful, IMHO.

Yeah, it's especially difficult to find songs with no lyrics. I listen to a lot of trance songs and some of them don't have any vocals to help identify the song. I guess some things we just have to struggle to find :(

The site works great, just make sure your mic is far enough from your mouth so it can be clear, also make sure the mic volume is not too high... also you gotta sing pretty well to get a good accurate search...
