  • I agree there ARE better ways to get a horse to laydown, but the horse doesnt seem too worried either...

  • Well behaved horse :)

  • Idiot!

  • chingon.. ustedss si saben como hacerlos saludar.. para que la pinche gente pendeja se divierta viendolos en una presentacion sin saber todo lo que se le tiene que hacer

  • Although I believe there are better mettods to teach the horse to lay down.

  • He doesn't seem to mind what she's doing, he seems relaxed...

  • What the hell are you doing !!!??? You can not even trust a horse by forcing it to do things! And you learn not fucking horse lie down so!!

  • he seemed happy to get his treat(:

  • my horse just wont lie down ! i do the exact same as you do but my horse just jumps away with 3 feet .... :)

  • submission is not trust

  • @DameTenebra there is nothing wrong with teaching a horse to lay down

  • @barboro1 This is not the goal that is wrong but the way. Teaching a horse how to lay down is a good exercise but the way you teach it doesn't bring something to the horse.

  • @DameTenebra just because somebody trains there horse different than you does not make them wrong

  • @DameTenebra I really agree,in my eyes,this is not "real".

  • i love how he lies down and looks for his treat

  • so cute when he looks for the treat when he lays down!!!

  • I think the better way is to pick the hoof up with your HAND and make sure the horse is ballanced and ask him to BOW, while having him follow his favorite treat and wait for him to do it by himself and again be BALLANCED. Laying on the side is hard for a horse. It is hard for them to breath.

  • @horseluverlol Really? Is that why some horses love to sunbathe lying on their side for hours at a time?

  • @EquineUserName Hmm, usually when they get up they cough or something. But whatever you can do what you want. I wasn't trying to start a fight. I just don't like the ropes.. I forgot I even made this comment I'm not going to fight with anyone. Sorry. I really don't care what you do with your horse.

  • @EquineUserName I made that comment a month ago... why bother replying now? sorry I was just asking.

  • @horseluverlol To point out to you that it is not painful/hard for a horse to lye on their side.

  • @EquineUserName Okay thank you for sending me another video. I've just been told that it is painful. I was just un-sure about the ropes.

  • @horseluverlol I don't think that the ropes would be painful, but I do think that if you don't know your horse enough to know if s/he'll stand for you to do this or not, it could end up being incredibly dangerous. BUT. I'm sure most people teaching this to their horse know their horse's limits. :) This is how I have seen it done by most people.

  • @EquineUserName I don't think they would or not either. I know my horses limits when it comes to riding her and other stuff but not with these kinds of tricks, so I wouldn't try it by myself. I would get someone to help me and see or say if we could do it or not with her.:) I wouldn't risk hurting her. Ah, okay. I see now.:) Thank you for not getting too upset with me about my comment. I just didn't know and I still don't know about using the ropes. You are great with your horse. :)

  • Yup, the horse may be "relaxed" but I don't like the look of forcing it to lay down. I'm NOT trying to be mean but I think there is another way of doing that. I dissaprove of the ropes. He could get TANGLED while getting up, the rope was under his belly and pulling his hoof up! -Again not trying to be mean. He didn't look like he had any BALANCE either. He could have just fallen if you did one wrong move. Definatly don't like the ropes.

  • people should stop coming to conclusions like these just because it looks like she is 'tying the horse up' and being 'cruel'. if you think that you obviously don't know what she is doing because it is not cruel and the horse is rewarded. Have some respect before calling someone cruel.

  • cruelty

  • poor horse!! she is like tying the horse up!!! but i have noticed the top comment above to say the ropes are soft and it is safe and stuff but still........

  • what is she doing with those ropes like i get it and all but ive seen alot of people not use presure like that just my opinion though

  • Good job Sammy!!!!!!

  • I have two colts that are coming up on 2 yrs this spring. We taught both to lay down. It did take some time. The vet was impressed when she came to geld one last summer and after the first shot, I asked do you want me to lay him down? She was amazed when I lifted his hoof and he gently laid down to the ground. She stated she wished everyone taught their horse that!!!

  • Im trying to teach my horse to lay down, but everytime I try he just rears.

  • Ive been trying to teach my horse to lay down for weeks after a while of doing this will it teach them to lay down?

  • The horse was willing and eager to do this trick, his ears pricked forward and he didnt refuse when the ropes pulled. It may look like they hurt when she pulls but you have to realise she's trying to pull 600kilo's or more down to the ground. The ropes are soft and wont hurt him. Not to mention the treat face he had :)

  • This method is perfectly fine. Its obviously not hurting the horse and hes not fighting it at all. MANY people use this mehod and just start lifting their leg with their hand and they do it without ropes eventualy.

    Just depends on the horse.

Some horses of course don't do well with this method but this guy is perfectly okay with it. So theres no reason to be mean or call her dumb over it because she is doing nothing "cruel" or "harmful" to the horse. :) shes doing a great job with him

    -Alex

  • You know, you gotta be carefully when you do that, it better to it when they are babiies! js (;

  • Awww...its probably a good way to make them lay down but i don't like the idea of it...it doesn't look right at all :''(

  • i teach my boys trics, but have never used ropes, mainly because i wasnt sure how to safely put them on.

its good to see a different approach, but i think i prefere my version.

  • That's a happy horse, look at his face and ears he's totally willing to try anything you ask him to. He has such a soft, sweet expresion! I bet he thought you wanted him to bow down at first and then it was "lay down? Oh ok I can do that!!!" and you could just see his mind saying !?!?TREAT?!?! when he got it right, so cute and :) good job!

  • this isnt abuse. youve gotta b kidding me, you think half the horses that are taught this have never used a rope? believe it or not it develops a stronger bond because the horse has to learn to trust you. who this this is horse abuse, go read up, check your references and grow up. honestly YOU, give the horseback riding a bad name by telling ppl false facts. horses are 1200+lb animals, they have their own mind. yes most have a choice but when they chose the wrong, thats when you get into trouble

  • while I am not a huge fan of the technique.... I love how your horse looked for you for the treat once it was down.

  • good start...watch the fetlock though. dont let him get half up.

  • not liking this..

  • I guess the method isn't cruel in this instance. More so it just comes off as plain rude to the horse. He would of gone down nicely if you asked politely, but you just went hauling him off his feet. It's just rude!

  • @VenusSavvy tottally agree

  • It blows my mind that people this this is an effective training method. There are more effective, less "cruel" ways of doing this, such as successive approximation.

  • @Tranqui1ity we heard you the first time...

  • Eweliiiina THANK YOU!!!1

  • I hate this technique : you'are stupid ! this horse can fall !

  • What she is doing is perfectly acceptable. The ropes are soft ropes that will not hurt the horse, and if the critter spooks, there are no knots tied so it will have release resulting in no injury. Teaching the horse to yield its feet to the pressure of having its feet tied is invaluable in my opinion. From this the horse will more easily accept hobbles, and if its feet ever get entangled in anything dangerous it will not fight pressure but yield to it, decreasing chance of injury. Good job

  • @ThePapabear5050 Okay! These ropes might not hurt the horse's leg but youre abusing the horse! Why force the horse to do things, it's like they did over 100 years ago! The horse don't make any resistance because it trust the owner and the owner abuses this! Maybe no chance of injury BUT big chance to a mentally destroyed horse! In Sweden we've got this horse gnome that says:

"When the knowledge runs out, the violence begins" Remember that!

  • @ThePapabear5050 thank you. atleast you have sometime of understanding for the thoughts of a horse. obviously this horse ISNT abused as to the face that it looks for the reward.

  • Thats not horsemanship!

  • The thing that concerns me is that she basically forces the horse over... There are other ways to teach a horse to lay down without physically pulling the horse over because you make them lose balance. I am teaching my horse to lay down by being creative and making new ways , like teaching it to bow and nudging his bum down.. You shouldnt need to physically PULL them over.. = /

  • ok people who are most likley "horse savyy' people from parelli- apparently you havent seen the bad side of him..so please shut up. She is NOT hurting the horse.

  • What a perfect example.........of some Dumbass that has no business whatsoever doing anything with horses at all. People like this need to have this done to them and then be shot

  • What a hard way!! Bad! Really!

  • This horse isn't learning to lay down he is forced to. It's better to let him do it step by step so he understands what you want. Now he wants to jump up and run away even though you gave him a treat.

  • you are so stupid that the horse is doing well because of the pain goes down I hate something ej

  • You cruel heartless person, how about you use that rope for other uses and go hang yourself with it

  • are you retarted? This is the ignoramous way to do ANYTHING to an animal - should should never touch a horse again dummy!

  • omg what the hell is worng with you, its obv that he dosnt want to do this!!!

  • at least pet him for doing that gosh thats mean!! :/

  • @crazychicks4life53 instead of jumping to conclusions.... watch the full video.... the horse looks for a reward, and GETS ONE

  • poor horse!

  • Omg that pore horse :'( I wish i could do that to you..

  • Its not cruel its natrual horsemanship. This is How you get your horse to trust you, Parelli horses are all really well trained and this is how they learn.

  • @yabblero

No this is not natural horsemanship. i do natural horsemanship pulling them down to the ground is not how you do it or gain their trust

  • @yabblero And obviously you have no business doing anything with horses at all either, if this is how you "Learn" them. Dumbass

  • ops, sorry, same comment twice... :/

  • keep the rope on, don't forse him, he obviously already knows the movement, so just wait, reavard the second he might do it voluntary. work on that, it wont take long. And when the horse is donw DON'T push hes head down too! give it time, he'll do it when he's ready, and trust's you and the environment that surround him... i don't think that is any more brutal that bitt are beeing used, the wip, ect... it acually seems like almose averbody are brainwashed and don't se they're horses' in pain...

  • I think using rope is OK, but i don't see why you're pulling so harde, when he comes along so voluntary anyways... Why don't you just keep the rope on, but don't pull, just wait, and the second he seemes to kneel, you revard him, and do that until he's completely down =) since he already knows the movement, it woulden't take long at all ^^ and WHEN the horse is down - do NOT forse his head down too! it's a reason the horse wont have his head down.. give it time, hi'll come when he's ready

  • HORRIBLE! I would never do that to my horse and im a 14 year old and most people my age would do anything like this just to get their horse to lie down -.- See my hrose actually trusts me so i dont need to force him, i have him bow on one leg by using treats between his legs the gently touch his side and he lies down... oh may i mention this is with my 5 year old thoroughbred who i have had for not even a full year and he didnt trust anyone when i bought him and wasnt trained at all

  • @BestBoysLanceAndCash Agree some people should not have horse :[ Or maybe not an animal at all...

  • why would you do that ,

    .......

  • @MsBritneyAshley obviously its cause she's stupid

  • poor horse

  • i knew this technique, but ive seen so many people just commanding, when the horse is planning itself to roll, or just lying down, and than a reward! i think that is so much nicer for the horse and i dont like all the ropes too..

  • Niet mijn favoriete methode.

  • yes this horse may trust her and she is confident in what she is doing, but that doesnt mean the horse will still trust her. your meant to have a friendship with a horse. how would you like it if your friend pulled you down with a piece of rope cause they wanted you to do a trick? you wouldnt wanna be friends with them for a while. not everything has a price tag! what ever happened to having a horse for enjoyment and not for something as a 'piece of meat' to be shown round.

  • i have seen HUNDREDS of other techniques to get a horse to lie down and this is not cruel in comparison. dangerous? yes. if the horse were to struggle and try to get up it would find itself unable to move and panic. however this was obviously not the first time she did this the horse knew what was about to happen and trusted her enough to do it for her. not cruel at all. next step is to eliminate the ropes ;)

  • Poor horse. This is horrible to watch.

  • I hate that too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • People might do this in a more cruel manner, but this little gal seems to be calm and in control. The horse seems calm and cooperative. There aren't too many ropes and the horse doesn't slam to the ground. I've always wondered how people teach their horses to lay down and I'm glad that I found this video. I am HIGHLY opposed to cruelty, but I see nothing wrong with her techniques. And this horse's price tag goes up with each trick/skill learned.

  • I dont think this is cruel at all, If the horse didnt want to lay down it wouldnt have done it! Remember that they are strong animals, this horse looks calm and it really looks like it trusts you, those ropes are just there to help.

  • i dont see your horse doing that on command anytime soon ... realy? you think your horse likes you doing that ... its like pulling a horses tail to make it walk back ... there are other ways of teaching that wich dont involve tieing your horse up and forcing it ...

  • Comment removed

  • There is nothing cruel about that, she is not hurting the horse at all. The horse does not look afraid, or untrusting. A person cannot physically pull a terrified horse down, this horse isnt even struggling.

  • SAMMY WAS MADE TO LIE DOWN. SAMMY SHOULD KICK TEN BELLS OR MORE OUT OF THIS "TRAINER"(ARSEHOLE)

  • Wow...you guys are quite pitiful. how the hell is this cruel? Don't ya think that if this horse thought it was cruel, it would have struggled against it's owner?

  • you are just plain mean. you don't do that! Roppes and pulling is a clear sign of cruelty!

  • thats terrible. your horse should be taken away from you and you should never be allowed withing a mile radius of another horse ever again in your life

  • thats so cute

  • that is so fuking cruel to that horse

  • OMG! This is not naturally trick training! This is just pull your horse down on a painfull way! what is wrong with you? Don´t you have patiance! i would´t wonder if your horse does not trust you anymore!

  • thats pulling him down. ugh so disgusting

  • I hate that technique .. That is not a trick or harmony! Thats .. THATS GROSE! Really.

Would u like to be PULLED down like that? Do u think he likes it .. NO!! If something was going wrong u could break his leg. I hope u someday will get hurt and learn a much harmless and better technique. Or just learn some other technique fast, so it is good for the horse.

Its grose .. Eow .. Hate people like u guys!

  • I hate that technique. That not a trick or harmony. Thats .. THATS GROSE!! Would u like to be PULLED down like that? If something was going wrong, u could break his leag .. i hope u someday will get hurt, og will lear a much better technique that is harmony :3 !!

    grose .. really!

  • WTF?!!? If you have to use ropes you SERIOUSLY need to completely reasses your training technique! Horrible and quite ignorant!

  • This isn't cruel...I mean, there are better ways to do it, of course, but the horse is totally relaxed and at ease. He even popped his head up at the end for a treat; he knew exactly what the owner was doing. In this case, this method is perfectly fine. Sorry if this offends anyone, it seems everyone else commenting is rather angry...lol. @imonlyindreems, I think you did a fine job (:

  • shit dumb

  • this is sick shame on that women

  • you're literally an unfit rider and should be gassed to death

  • @TheFutureIsGrimm that's a little overkill don't you think? yes there are better methods and she may not know of them...doesn't mean she needs to be killed.

  • @ilovemybooth Maybe not killed, but she -certainly- doesn't deserve to own a horse... I have a horse myself, who was scared and untrained. I did 5 weeks of groundwork and I was able to get on her back without her even stepping aside, because I -earned her trust-!

  • @AlaiaViper Well good job and I could agree with the own a horse thing. I don't much like this method either.

  • poor horse!

  • poor horse!

  • holy shit!! thats rude!! mean!! you indeed have to build up trust with your horse to do that !! dont do that!!! !@$!#&*$&*!#(

  • I have used a hobble before to lie a horse down but ONLY to get him started... the horse has to make the decision to lie down, you can't force him to! I also didn't use this complicated of one... too many ropes he could really hurt himself! You shouldn't put things like this on the internet because inexperienced people will copy it and get them or their horses hurt!

  • Everyone flag this video so it gets removed- I can only imagine what sort of inexperienced people out there will see this and think that this is the way to teach your horse to do a trick-

  • this method is incredibly dangerous. if something spooked the horse, there'd be a broken leg or two for sure.

  • thats so mean

  • so schlimm ist diese technik nun auch wieder nicht ^^ wenn das pferd es verstanden hat kommt der strick eh weg

  • this may be an essencial trick for acting horses and 'natural horsemanship', but youve got to admit, its quite cruel. how would you like it if some1 tie ur leg up and pulled you down?!

  • this is not normal, this is cruel!

  • You sick, sick person :( poor pony :(

  • thats awful!

  • ASOCIAAL KUT WIJF DAT JE BENT FUKING ZIELIG DIT tog vet zielig hoe je dat doet!!

  • thats MEAN

  • oh my god. This is cruel. The poor horse has no other choice than falling down.

  • use natural horsemanship duh!

  • @yosteve121 how about you piss off. Alot of horse trainers do this kinda stuff.

  • hij gaat liggen omdat je hem op de grond trekt jaa!

    niet omdat hij dat wil??!

  • Not to nice, eah?

  • I look up "teach your horse to lay down" and this is what i get. Your terrible. I feel really sorry for that horse. You should really try and learn a few things from Parelli.

  • Him-"Wheres my treat?!"

  • terrible.... what are you doing?? its so easy to lay a horse down without pain, but this.... horrible...... this horse has pain!!!!

i can lay my hose down...... i take his food and then you take the string or how it calls in english and you go smal circles than he lay down without pain and if he dont want to lay down let him!!!

sorry i'm from germany and my english is not so good

  • Not the best method, but I think you already know that now :D

  • sammy didn't lie down

    you pulled him down idiot

why don't I pull your legs from underneath you and we'll see if you can lie down as well?

  • this is mean

  • We know a lot of different ways to put a horse down. But what you are doing here isn't nice to the horse at all. you are using your intiar bodyweight to pull the horse down. The way you are doing it, cán be good, but you are making it really unfriendly! Its horiffic to see how you are doing it! And I suppose you did it more times, because the horse stays pretty cool. but still doesn't really wants to cooperate because you are doing it on a really bad way!

  • Comment removed

  • ridiculous is a weak word to express what i saw

horses are not forced to do something in good ethology they are willing to do them with a big smile

people who likes what you do don t know anything about horses

if you want to understand something please cure yourself with your mind

and be couragous learn with a real sensitive teacher in france called chrystelle zammarini to conclude with her no vitrine no superficial person but just real truth

  • What an idiot, this is not the way NH supposed to be.

  • I like how the horse is relaxed and chewing.

  • haha love how he/she pops it head up like, was it good enough? :) :P

  • : ) this was on the film horsewisper.

but im not to sure if i like the idear of this, i know it dont harm the horse just looks mean, nothing against you thou

  • At first I wasn't too sure about the lines all rigged up around the horse but I guess your horse is just better with things like that than mine XD Good job and beautiful horse!

  • i like how he look up for a cookie lol

  • I agree with horsejumper2929 & gryphonkeen! At least the horse is relaxed & isn't panicing!

i've seen people trying out things like that & ended up getting both horse & owner injured! At least the owner in this imonlyindreems knows what to do!

    Well done btw! :D x

  • This is not cruel ( This is how you train a horse that has been in an accident and is now afraid of you * so you do that and you get on the horse and you let them lift up while your on their back and then you start riding to let them rember your bond together!!! )

  • It wasnt cruel, She's obviously spent time with him. He's very relaxed. I've seen people try this whose horses are not relaxed, and THAT is cruel. Shes not hurting him and he lifts his head for the treat he knows he's going to get.

  • @gryphonkeen

It blows my mind that people this this is an effective training method. There are more effective, less "cruel" ways of doing this, such as successive approximation.

  • :-(

  • OMG!!x(

    x(

  • looks pretty relaxed to me. Doesnt look cruel at all..

  • I hate that technique,

  • my horse would completely freak out if i did that, hes a bit flighty see...

  • lol

  • Omgggeee! If someone posted a video

of them pulling back on the rope and the horse nicely goes down, then they are all like THATS AWESOME but they most likey used this tequineqe

  • It is much easier if you pull on the halter rope, not the leg rope. If taught correctly the horse actually chooses to lie down, and it not pulled over. Your horse should go from the bow and choose to lie down on its own. Just a thought. I'll see if I can get a video up of how I do it with my stallion.

  • if u do plz mesage me :P :)

  • Ohk, This May Look Cruel.. But It IS'NT!

  • that is called RAPE forcing the horse to submit, many ways to gain his trust and get results without ropes!!!

  • aw what a sweetie! nicely done he went down really quietly:)

  • ANIMAL ABUSE!!!!! how would u like it if i tied you up and FORCED you to lie down and not get back up. I wish i could savethat poor horse. Your lucky it didnt break something the way you got it to lie down...

  • that is a horrible video....people like you shouldn't have horses....how could you strap up your horse like that and force him to lie down? if you had a bond with him he would do it through trust.....that is the worst example of horse handling i have seen in a long long time...dont bother emailing me on the quiet aftet this post....cop on and read your video texts...everyone else agrees with me here! just stop and think about it and you might learn something!!!!

  • I TOTALLY agree with you. This is just plain cruel!!! And your PULLING him down!!! Parelli teaches that the horse should trust you enought that you don't have to make them do that!!!

  • @TheHorsesareForever i SO AGREE THATS SOOO MEAN!!

  • This is horrible and people shouldn't feel proud to be forcing a horse to do this when you can ask them to do it willingly!! Not impressive just a form of bullying!!

  • And yes, it is possible to easily teach this without using ropes. And its easy to cue when in the saddle. :)

  • Oh my. Rope tricks might work with your 30 year old quarter horse, but from a trainer who has worked with hundreds of horses in the past 20 years, anything with ropes and constraints will cause a horse to fight and resist - putting inexperienced horses and people in a VERY dangerous position.

Look elsewhere if you're looking for a natural approach to teaching your horse this trick.

  • How long did it take to get to that point? I hate to think about it but my mare will be 38 next year. I had the misfourtune to watch a vet put down a gelding that had broken his shoulder he shoved him over so he had to try to catch himself with the broken shoulder I barely managed to get out of the way as he crashed to the ground. I will not allow my old friend to go like that when her time comes.

  • that is really crual he does not know what is going on!! but it was impresive.........

  • this, as cruel as it may seem, is one of the most humane ways to get a horse to lay down. many people do not like to teach their horse to lay down, and so if a horse ever has to lay down to get injuries treated or anything along those lines, this is the best thing to practice. besides, if you've ever seen a video or an actual horse lay down, they look as though they are collapsing, but it is not different here than naturally.

  • That was pretty impressive^^

  • lol after hes like i cant get back up!!!

  • so cute when he just flops down =]

  • es una mierda de video

  • Дура тупорылая , попросить надо сам ляжет

  • ah it deffoo dunt look like much fun though

  • Hmm.. I know it is not painful, but it sure doesn't look nice! I tought it my horse while he was going to lie, by his own. Than practiced a little en Voila!

  • soetwas würde ich mit meinen pferden nie machen weil sie es liebevoll lernen sollen und nicht indem man ihnen die füße wegzieht
