@transcam619 Not too personal at all. I didn't pay out of pocket for my hysterectomy. It's covered where I live. In the US, I think the average cost is around $8-10K Dr. McGinn in PA charges $7500.
The initial surgery itself was easier than I thought it would be. I didn't have abdominal surgery---that is more intense and your mother will have a longer healing period. Also, did you see my follow-up videos to this one? I ended up having a nasty complication that almost required additional surgery. Scary. Lastly, has your mom checked out the site HysterSisters[dot]com? It's a very good support site for women having hystos.
Wow. You were really lucky. I had to have abdominal full out surgery for mine. Cuz of cists I would get & having to have prior surgeries, I was able to finally convince my gyno to remove it all. So i guess I'm lucky that it's done already. Had to have most of my lower organs cut away from everything & put back where they belong. So, I had a long recovery. Glad to hear it went well for you! I know I was relieved to get those woman parts out of me! LOL
I do feel lucky to have been a candicate for lap-assisted hysto. Having "female parts" wasn't really an issue for me, though I know it's common. It's not a surgery I thought I would get initially, but several compelling reasons surfaced, and I'm just thrilled I was able to get it done so quickly!
Hey glad to hear you are doing well,Take it easy and dont overdo it,I had a laprascopic hysto about a year and a half ago.I was almost freakishly calm before my surgery, but my g/f cried and was scared for me.
So glad everything went well! Can't wait to hear more details about the surgery. That's probably the first surgery I'm going to get, so I really want to hear more about it.
They gave me more of it post-hysto than after my recent top surgery revision, making the Gravol essential.
The other thing I did was maintain a cool cloth on my forehead for about 12 hours post-op, quite a nice comfort.
Morphine is interesting stuff... I was amazed that it could konk me out well, yet I could get up and walk around an hour later and not feel whacked out. I have zero interest in it recreationally speaking, but it's a blessing post-op.
i noticed major changes w masculizing effects post hysto too... which shocked me seeing how far in i am w hrt... unfortunately for me.. my hair is falling out hardcore now. haha. oh well.
you could ask your dr for premarin (which is estrogen) in the form of vaginal cream. it did WONDERS for my bleeding. e thickens your blood and that area tho e is surpressed is still use to ahving it there.. and e can help thicken your blod/ cause it to clot/speed up the process
Makes sense since taking them pre-op is not advised. However, my surgeon had me alternating between Tramacet and Ibuprofen post-op. He wanted me on an anti-inflammatory (Ibu) as well as pain killer. I only took it for the first 7-10 days post-op. I wonder how much it actually affects post-op bleeding?
congrats!!!! glad it went well, doesn't it feel great having it done and over with?! those were my thoughts too and i still count my blessings that it's been done and i don't have to worry about it anymore.
I'm still pinching myself! It all came together pretty quickly, and it's not like top surgery where you really experience the immediate shift, so it's hard to believe it's a done deal already! w00t!
I just got my referral to my Hysto surgeon today, so this video is exceptionally well timed for me.
Wanted to extend my appreciation for all of the effort you put into your videos, they have all been enormously helpful for me - most especially this one.
I hold some fears which you seem to have held pre-op, which is comforting. Thanks again for this awesome in depth share session.
Glad to hear it! And great news about you getting a referral (and soon a surgery date!) You might enjoy some hysto videos from other YouTubers that I've been collecting in my Hysto Help Playlist.
Thanks! I was born in Quebec, so I have to do the birth cert change through that province. It's a little complex since I've gotten two different stories about the requirements for this. One person at the QC stats office said I would need to move back to QC for 1 year to get the change made. (I haven't lived there since '79.) Sounds insane! Another person said that was rubbish. I'm going to include extra support letters in my application in an effort to get around any bureaucratic bull.
I really love your videos. Watching you throughout this whole process has been very interesting and informative. I am glad your hysterectomy went well. :)
u mentioned u had 3 surgeries I know 2 of the what was the third???

I have a question, you don't have to answer if it is to personal but how much did your hysterectomy cost?

My GF went shopping! :) Admittedly though, she said it was a really weird feeling being in the grocery store while I was being de-uterused.
Great advice! I walked 5km yesterday, but think I'll just do a 2km walk today.

Sam CONGRALUTIONS!
I assume that you had a Laproscopic assisted version. Am I correct?

Correct, laparoscopically assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH) with bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy. Say that 10x fast! ;)

Hair loss is going to be one big mystery for me since I don't know much about my maternal family, if pattern baldness is present in the line.
Premarin, I remember you mentioning this now. My surgeon doesn't typically do anything for bleeding (as long as it's light) until the 6-8 wk mark.
You've given me ideas though... thicken blood. Avoiding alcohol is an obvious route and eating foods that contain estrogen:
dogtorj[DOT]tripod[DOT]com/id46[DOT]html
Last resort: excessive smoking--not!

also avoid asprin and ibprophen i was taking motrins to reduce swelling from my revision and stopped to hopfully help. naproxen sodium possibly?

I had to laugh about this after posting it... estrogen-rich foods! Ha!The whole point of the surgery was to get rid of estrogen!! :)
