Looks like fun! Still i prefer the Western Pacific R.R. museum (formally the Portola R.R. museum). There they not only let you clime inside, and around the locos, but encourage it! And if you have enough money, you can actually operate one under supervision for an hour.
What a brilliant video Bob, everything is perfect - just like your other videos. I just wonder; the locomotive in the beginning called: "Evening Star". Isn't that the last steam locomotive built for British Railways? The museum appears to have many trains. I've always wanted to go to a trainmuseum which is so big as the one in York. I really, really apologise for not commentating on your last videos. Sickness and lack of will is the reason. But I still watch your videos, and I enjoy them! Jonern
@Jonern67 Hello Jon, it's great to hear from you again, and I hope your health improves very soon. You are correct regarding Evening Star, it was the very last steam locomotive to be built for British Railways at their Swindon Works.....Best wishes...Bob
Always a joy to see and visit York Railway Museum Bob, Evening Star is a new addition since the last time I went, must go and visit again sometime this year, thanks for sharing...by the way just received this on the 18th , my youtube seems to have gone haywire
@ThomastheE2engine I know, I just missed it, it's gone to the East Lancs railway for running in, but I've heard that they've found some cracks in the frames...Bob
I see Duchess of Hamilton seems to be the only one still in the same spot since I was there last year, inspires a dream of a railtour with two streamlined locos, one LMS and a choice of three LNER's.... nice video Bob, thanks.
Super video Bob. Such a great and varied collection in NRM. It seems unfair to single any one loco out but, Duchess of Hamilton looks superb. Regards, Jeff.
You may have had problems with your camera, Bob, but you've still turned out an excellent video (Your hand held shots are steadier than me with a tripod!). I have not been to the museum for very long time, so I was absolutely amazed to see how much improved it is. Particularly liked the close-ups following the main views- shows what a great industry we once had in this country...Mervyn
Lovely video Bob. I went last year and I think I was in there for 3hrs. Great close up shots of the locos as well especially 6229's connecting rods with her number on them. Its a great place to go, well York itself actually. All the best........Tim.
The NRM is one of my favourite places to visit, and its free, cant beat that. also Bob have you heard about the prototype HST being restored to mainline condition? do you know when this is going to get started?
@bladesman123 I have heard that there are plans to restore the Prototype HST, but the time scale hasn't been finalised yet...although exactly what they intend to do with the one power car I don't know...Bob
@MegaCullie It's a wonderful place to visit, half of it was closed to the public when I visited, but you could spend all day there quite easily....Bob
Sorry about the camera, Bob. Reminds me that they are not immortal! You did very well in the circumstances, to get all you did. I haven't been to the NRM for 33 years (or so) so it has changed. Didn't know they had a Q1, either. . . . . Alan
@balmesh Thanks Alan, the camera was covered by insurance thank goodness, so hope to have it back in a few weeks...The NYMR is certainly worth a visit if you're up that way, unfortunately only half of it was open when I visited.....Bob
Another great video Bob,you really got some nice shots,I liked the Q1,this is one of my favourite loco's,I remember them from Salisbury and the S.R when I was a lot younger.Hope you had a good holiday.Chris.
I can't believe your new camera has suffered damage!! Aghhh!!! thats tragic news.
having said that you still did a marvellous job, no doubt about it. I've only visited this place once, early nineties I think, they didn't have that Pit walk beneath the engine then, that was fascinating to see, so much stuff under there, I never realised. Glad you filmed it. Duchess of Hamilton, wow! stunningly beautiful piece of engineering. So much to comment on, loved all the detail shots Bob, I could go on :-)
@Bevoin1970 Thanks Paul, it's difficult filming as you can't see most of the image in the viewfinder, so I was pleased with getting some footage, the anti shake facility may also have been affected, will have to wait and see....You must go back again, it's free and well worth a visit.......Bob
Excellent Bob,that museum is great, have not been for a while i think i am due for a visit. As for the Scotsman i think it is going to be used for the Scarborough Spa Express this season,if i can find time i will have to get it on video............John
@johnwood57 Thanks John, I haven't been in there for years either, and was surprised at being able to film so much without too many people getting in the way. I've heard that they've found cracks in Scotsman's frames, and if that's the case she won't be working for a while yet....Bob
Looks like a great day out Bob. York is a great city, hope you didn't get stuck in traffic up there. The camera damage hasn't affected the end result, but I hope you get the problem fixed. its a real bummer when the camera takes a knock.
rk and ride option into York, then caught the road train seen at the end into the centre, so all worked out well. The camera was damaged when it fell of the back seat of the car coming away from Ferryside recently....it's gone off for repair under an insurance contract, thank goodness...Bob
A nice collection of shots there Bob... you have captured the flavour of the Museum - what a great collection. Sorry about your camera - does that mean a new one is on the way? - Peter
@heabow Thanks Peter, it was a great place to visit, as far as the camera is concerned it was insured thank goodness, as a new one would be out of the question....Bob
@MonochromeLoco Thanks very much Keith, I don't know if the Class 84 is still there as half the museum was closed when I visited, a check on their web site may give you the answer...Bob
Superb vid Bob! Hope you enjoyed your visit "up 're neck o' woods" (speaking yorshire is easier than writing it down!). Nice to see the "coppernob" out of the station hall and into the bright natural light in the great hall.
