  • I feel your energy.. lol

Just picked up some Bambusa Arundinacea and getting ready to plant.

  • is it bad that i talk to my plants ?

  • it's thin due to the type of bamboo... but also because of where I live in the States... the temperate climate there prevents them from getting too thick. the fatter ones can't grow in my zone. There are over 1200 types of bamboo...

  • why is that bamboo so thin ? (not like the cool japanese style bamboo)

  • cool man ...i also have a small bamboo plantation...i began loving bamboo two years ago...i got like 15 different types of bamboo including two gigantic ones... congratulations on yours and keep loving bamboo just as much as i do...best wishes from mexico...

  • @chivyionn awesome!! keep growing the bamboo! Chau amigo.

  • David we are soul mates, I adore bamboo, almost obsessed by it, not quite sure why, there's something amazing about it I want to grow it but its so expensive to buy here, need to find a wild patch somewhere like you! Hugs xx

  • @lisesf Yeah, bamboo is so magic!! I'm sure that you can find some where you live -- you're in the states? Just keep an eye out for it in residential areas... And you could even ask people for a few of their and I'm sure they would allow you to dig 'em up. Blessings!! :)

  • They are in 5 gallon pots most of them around 20 culms, most of them real bushy with new shoots coming up and around 1.5ft tall. I'm charging 32$ for these.

I'm in an average zone 6 and use 1 layer of plastic tarp to over-winter these guys so if you are half a zone warmer than me I would recommend it as long as you don't mind tarping it for the first 2 winters. Once they get taller and reach their mature form they can be fully hardy to zone 7A.

  • Finally some of my bamboos look pretty established in their pots. Are you still interested in any?

I have decently established moso, heteroclada, rufa and bissetii so far and my flickr photostream can be accessed by typing in moso---->recent posts.

  • @stevelau1933 how much for the moso? What do you recommend for Long Island? I'm in zone 6/7.

  • Cool video , I also grow bamboo , as you I like them , here in SW Sweden ( Göteborg ) they reach moderate sizes but I do cultivate Bissetii and Pseudosasa Japonica.

    Where do you garden ?

    Ali Khaoua , Göteborg

  • @meknesout Thanks for watching. I grow in Long Island, New York. My tallest are about 16 - 18 ft. They are so nice!

  • Good work brother. Just planted my first bamboo plant. Before this we, started with tomatoes. My family comes out every day and really enjoys watching everything grow. I really like your vibe. Keep it up.

  • @kevinlramos Thank brother. Good stuff on planting that bamboo! It's a magical plant. Thanks for watching :)

  • Don't bitch and moan when those roots start busting the foundation of your house.

By cutting the stalks, you only make the underground roots grow further searching for another place to come up.

Cutting the stalks only pisses it off and makes it more aggresive. You have to cut the roots 3 times a year.

  • @FreeTalkLive I won't be pissed at all :) I'll rejoice. Thanks for the comment! Blessings.

  • how old is the bamboo you were making the song

  • @haramacad I took a few stalks from a very established grove... perhaps 7+ years, I'd say.

  • I love this guy. So in tune with nature, and helping everyone here get in tune. I love bamboo too bro. Keep making vids for us man, U really are a great influence. peace

  • @nighthawk5556 thanks SO much for watching -- really means a lot to me ;) peace

  • They'll be safe to move in about another month when they harden off and won't be damaged by shipment or removing dirt. What kinds would you be interested in?

I have black bamboo too, but got it back in fall of 2009 so it's still small. In a couple years when my moso bicolor gets larger, I'll be splitting off as many divisions as I can.

  • @stevelau1933 what kinds do you recommend? I see that you have other sorts of cold hardy plants as well.

  • @Mindpetals

Maybe moso. It can get pretty big and grows more unpredictably than the other phyllostachys.

Parvifolia works too since it looks nice and gets to a big size in cold climates.

F Rufa is good if you want a smaller clumping type.

If you want something really nice and willing to pay for it, I would go with moso bicolor because the coloration probably makes it the most beautiful bamboo out there. Mine costed me 200$ for a 1 gallon plant.

  • @stevelau1933 cool! Thanks for the info... let's touch base soon, then... I'm always up for more bamboo

  • Sounds cool. I have some regular mosos, heterocladas, bissetii, & rufas potted up which I sell on craigslist, or bamboo forums regularly. I'd be able to send some, but they're all shooting and wouldn't do well if I shipped them now.

I post some of my plant pictures on my flickr account under the name of lau1922.

  • @stevelau1933 wow... impressive plants! I'd love some shoots they are safe to ship ;) so you never wanted to grow black bamboo?

  • I'm right below lake Ontario in upstate NY around Rochester in zone 6 so it's a bit too far for you to come over for a dig.

  • @stevelau1933 cool well let's keep each other in the loop of our bamboos... I think I have at least 3 variates so far :)

  • That's pretty cool. I'm also in NY and I'm up to 25 varieties of either cold hardy clumpers or phyllostachys. My rarest variety is moso bicolor which I hope will grow.

  • @stevelau1933 wow, what part of NY are you in?

  • Yellow groove is pretty common in the northeast. In the wild it usually doesn't get any larger than 1 inch, but with care it can get to 2 inches. The largest temperate varieties can get up to 7 inches, or more.

A dependable source would be bambooplantation.

  • @stevelau1933 cool, I'm zone 7 here in NY, I believe. I just planted some black bamboo.

  • You have a plethora of knowledge and ideas on these beauties!!

  • Thanks a lot :)

  • I'm not sure what it is, but I got the feeling there is a life lesson in what you said about uprooting plants.

  • let me know when you find the lesson

  • This video put a huge smile on my face!

  • awesome!! :)

  • agree :D

  • ;) thx!!

  • love your bamboo music...lol

  • hahahah --- thanks!!! i tried...... :)
