  • I miss you Dad. It's been five years, but day does not go by where I don't think of you. Rest in peace.

  • We should all be so fortunate to have a friend as loyal as John Prine is to the late Steve Goodman. John has always gone out of his way to keep Steve's memory alive through songs and stories like the one he told before singing this one. For a similar tribute, see John Prine's version of Steve's (and his) "You Never Even Called Me By My Name." John Prine is an American treasure.

  • I miss my oldman

  • Reminds me of my dad who is pasted and what I would do to hear his voive just once again LOVE YOU DAD !

  • LOVE IT! makes me want to cry and i'm not even drunk.

  • My dad was in the Army Air Corps too ... and I'd give all I own, just to hear what he said when I wasn't listening to my old man.

  • omfg this is wonderful. You can see that even John is moved in this version by the accordian and the young kid on guitar. I heard Steve sing this right after he wrote it blah blah blah but if this version doesn't make you cry, then you can't cry.

  • Steve Goodman wrote this touching song. I can relate to this in a very real way as my fater was in the Army Aircore in WW II. He died in 1975 from a heart attack.

God bless Steve Goodman and John Prine

  • This is one of the best song ever have been written!!! Ein ganz tolles Lied geschrieben von Steve Goodman und gesungen von John Prine! Super!

  • What a touching performance. Thanks for this wonderful video, Laurie.

  • Oh that beautiful song; the armonio does a fantastic sweet sound.

Prine seems to me as tired, in this video. Is this from 1999?

  • It was November 1997

    Laurie

  • Right before he was diagnosed with cancer. He was probably very sick when he gave this performance, but didn't realize yet what the problem was. Still a lovely, great performance I think.

  • @strukhoff

I think the same. Grazie for info.

  • @FAUSTORICCARDO john is THE MAN..
