I am a relatively young Black male (under 30) and I agree with this video. I have NEVER been arrested. I believe it is because of multiple reasons but mainly 3: 1) I speak the King's English 2) I wear clothing that fits me and I utilize a belt. 3) I am polite, I do not drive (in NYC) and the majority of my friends are not into breaking the law.

Gates flipped-out, plain and simple. All he had to do was cooperate and do what the officer asked - something expected of EVERY citizen when a criminal investigation is taking place. The saddest part of this matter is that the 'disorderly conduct' charge was dropped. This wasn't a racist arrest - it was a simple situation escalated into something bigger by an arrogant asshole.

I liked using the word 'niggardly' back when I was in high school. I thought it would be funny to see how many illiterate morons took offense. It almost resulted in me getting my ass beat, but lucky for me the guy didn't know how to fight and I was victorious.

I had alot of respect for his scholarly work until this incident occured. I thought he is one of the best people to represent breaking down racial barries in the U.S. for his work in geneology and history. I am disappointed that even giants like him can fall victim to the good old race card.

Been there, done that. Cops go mental (with fear) when they confront burlary suspects.

I too was infuriated by a cop banging on the back door of my Ottawa store @ 3:00 in the morning. I opened the door & he pulled a gun on me. Things deteroriated when I told him to relax & calm down, offering to show him ID. He called for back up, & within 5 minutes there were 4 cops in my store while I was pulling out ID & business cards linking me to the store. It was he who was pumped full of fear.

Haha. There really should be White Studies, though. Just like it's discriminatory fir there to be a Black History Month, without one for other colors of skin. Also ramzpaul, you should start the Forst Men's Studies Program, for the same reasons. ;)
