  • I wanna build up my squat! How often should i do them to build strength? Should i pair it up with my other leg exercises or do it on its own? Please help i have been stuck on this plateau for a while now!

  • John, I can squat ATG with my bodyweight perfectly fine with my chest up, back arched, etc., but whenever I rotate my scapulae back (like to support a bar on my back), my back rounds and my chest caves. Do you think that you may be able to determine which particular area is lacking mobility and causing this, or do you think that it could be anything?

    This is most definitely a high bar style of squat. Check out the other videos of him made in the same style.

  • Its fucking ludacriz pat mendes is a weightlifter and yet has an unbelievable squat strenght. His clean and jerk is from another world.

  • @BROZKNOWS Thanks a lot for posting all these vids and training info John, you and pat are a big inspiration, quick question, my lower back is giving me a bit of trouble lately is it ok if I focus on front squats for a while until it gets better, they dont aggrevate it as much. Thanks.

  • @abcwarrior88 F squats usually put more stress on lower back. if they dont and feel good, then by all means do them. go for a PR!

  • @Kaelan66 ATG= better ROM= better strength, also it mimics the part where you squat up the weight after you catch it when you do the clean and jerk/powerclean/ or snatch

  • Wow extremely strong. You have really good form, you can see an olympic lifting background - also you seem to be doing it without a belt - very impressive and good practice

  • Could somebody please clarify how much is 'a lot' raw and how much is 'a lot' equipped?

    I'm still not sure what these terms mean, but for example 500lbs is hailed as a world class bench press if its raw but there's probably thousands who can do it with a bench shirt.

    How much, in proportion to bodyweight, is a good squat raw?

  • @theporksicle 1.25 x's your bodyweight is considered a strong Bench Press. 2 x's your body weight is considered a good squat and a good Deadlift. These are realistic measures of where your RAW total should be. RAW ='s NO SUIT, PERIOD. A belt and knee wraps are traditionally accepted as RAW. Hope I helped.

  • Yeah, cheers! So, basically if people compete 'raw' then that means they just compete raw and they compare their totals with others who compete raw, and likewise with those who compete 'equipped'?

    It seems like they had may as well be two different sports.

  • we go to the maximum every workout, then go down about 10-30kg and do doubles or trips for 3-8 sets.

    Front squats are between 3-5x/week

  • Haha! well, usually when we miss an attempt, we just dump it. In his case on 317 he was so spent mentally on 310 that he walked it out and had second thoughts after setting up and put it back in the rack.
