  • german oldtimer....to see in museums.

Portanto, a quilometragem é baixíssima. Bem menor que o carrinho do papai.

  • Interesting, apart from one thing: the M113 is not, has never been and never will be called "Gavin". It's nonsense.

  • Of course she swims! are you all blind or what?

  • m113 is idiot very bad. Killed 9 Turkish soldier with bomb attack (PKK terrorism) in M113. All personels killed with bomb yesterday.

  • Strykers are far too heavy to swim eve with a kit.

  • So is M113A3. AFAIK only M113s that were able to do so were original modell and maybe the next one, but after engine and protection was improved weight became too much.

Stryker was never intended to swim.

  • sjumppanen,

The AIFV (which weighs 5 tons more at empty weight than an M113A3 Gavin, and has the same footprint) can swim.

    Note the big, blocky object on the frontal slope of this K-200 (South Korean-built AIFV). That's a trim vane, used to deflect waves while in deep water --- proof it can swim;

    Brasil!

  • It may be a good design, but if it hasn't ben upgraded since, then it still have piece of shit parts..

  • kjakjakjakja ia se le oxido kjakjakjakja

  • hell you would probally get lost with a GPS in an open feild 10 meters from your TOC. That is probally the reason you are still a 1LT after 13 years. My questions how can you go cross country in a City like Baghdad where their buildings in every place possible. Fact is we are fighting an Urban warfar and tracked vechiles destory the roads going at the speed as wheeled vechiles do. If you would deploy you would see that oh wait you are QM

  • And what are you, 21?

I have been in the military LONGER THAN YOU HAVE BEEN ALIVE on planet earth.

Suggest you graduate from a college and/or join a military and try to do better (ie become an officer) before opening your mouth and concocting lies about your betters. Maybe along the way, you will learn how INTEGRITY is at odds with promotion within corrupt organizations. First, learn what a google satellite map is.

  • Well, the old 113 served well for a very long time. It was made in greater numbers than almost any tracked vehicle in history. It continues to be used by many armies. It will be a long time before anything comes along that improves on the 113's record.

  • Well I have first hand knowledge abot the m113 and it sucked. I was a Trac Commander In desert Storm and when I got my m113 I first noticed ot was slow. This was the line up on the way to the FLOT. The Abrams were first then the Bradleys then last approx one and a half clicks were the m113s Oh and dont forget that when you had to "pull the pack" it took all day and nite. The only good thing was the Army got rid of the "T" bars and gave it laterals.

  • You had an A2.

M113A3 Gavins are much faster than Bradleys and are the ones with steering wheels. Don't confuse your experiences with Army neglected M113 Gavins with their full potential which we haven't even begun to exploit.

Toda a infantaria do Exército a usa...

  • Folks, this story is over. The US Army has made clear its opinion of the M113 in its FY09 budget request. The program has been terminated, and all the M113s in the heavy brigades are to be replaced with Strykers by the end of FY2013. It's over. Mike will soon need to get a new hobby.

In homage to the old girl, though, I might propose that we circulate a petition to posthumously name the M113 the SHINSEKI. That would be nice.

  • @jhasik Well its now 2011 and the M113 is still here and the strikers have a rep of flipping over ,getting stuck, of throwing tires (or is that whole hubs), its seems the strikers have been removed from Iraq and M113's have replaced them as M113's are more survivable and more maneuverable. What happened to the vaunted striker? Was it vaporware , did the Army get screwed ...Again?

  • oh, and i meant to say "shouldn't be used as much as he advocates", though more than the Styker is being used. Basically, Mr. Sparks: Horrible conversationalist, sound tactician, outside-the-box thinker.

  • But, from a 1998 published source, Mr. Sparks is a "former Marine officer and enlisted man, he is now in a Special Forces U.S. Army National Guard unit. He is a graduate of MC Basic/SOI, PLC, OCS, TBS, Infantry Officer Course, Army Airborne School, and IDF Paratroop School. He has a BS in history/education from Liberty University. His works have been published in ARMOR, Infantry, Special Warfare, Army Logistician..." The list went on a little bit more...

  • He has a BS in BS.

  • lol, i won't deny the guy is batshit-crazy for the M113, but alot of what he says has a point. Not all of it is realistically implementable, but he makes valid points. He's the kind of guy they should just lock up in a self-contained box and let him shove his written out ideas through a slot to be seriously and objectively considered..

  • But, from a 1998 published source, Mr. Sparks is a "former Marine officer and enlisted man, he is now in a Special Forces U.S. Army National Guard unit. • while i disagree with how Mr. Sparks handles dissenting opinions, i happen to agree with alot of his professional opinions. The M113 'should' be called the "Gavin", though it should be used as much as he would want it to be.

  • Kirk to Enterprise, Scotty, Beam up Mike Sparks! His brain's scrambled and maybe Bones can transplant him a new one. Kirk back to Enterprise. Cancel the beam up, sparky will meet you in his FLYING M113 Gayvin.

  • I think the name "Gavin" is just Mike Sparks trying to pull another FUNNY!!

  • Gen. Gavin was airbourne. He never was armor. Why would they ask an airbourne officer to design an armored vehicle for the armored divisions?? Also, don't you sort of need to be an engineer to design armored vehicles??

  • @sunsaint707 The M113 was designed to be AIR LIFTED AND AIR DROPPED from the "flying boxcar" cargo airplane ! It was designed for AIRBORNE ! The army just chose to also use it in armored divisions because it was cheap. What law requires you to have any degree to design any thing? It just shows the Generals in the past had Brains!

  • Hey! Is "GAYvin MIKE" here????

  • Hey I heard the story about "nomorenarcissism/dynamicpara." who is a one MIKE SPARKS. He was in the ARMY and the first time some kid shot fired a .22 near him he hauled ass. Some Marines saw it and arrested him. He was dishonorably discharged for cowardice under fire. It explains his hatred for the Marines. He tried to blame his flight on the stryker vehicles that were escorting his ARMY squad, claiming they were "No good" so he had to run. Poor kid. Maybe if a GAYvin had been around! BOO HOO!

  • Dynmicpara now has to go "offworld" to try to make his case, having failed to make one here. :-)

  • Did they buy those trucks from MidTnAutos?

  • Did they buy those TRUCKS from MidTNautos?

  • Music build up......

Like no all volunteer farce has ever done before!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

SWISSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHH! a Stryker truck drives by at a whopping 60....miles an hours followed by a fireball explosion at several thousand miles an hour disintegrating it into flaming fragments.....

  • Main Title:

    TRUCKTARD TREK

Woman singing the haunting Alexander Courage Star Trek theme melody: "AAAAAuuhhhhhh uhhhhh uhhhh uuhhhhhh uhhhh"

  • SWISSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHH! a Stryker truck drives by at a whopping 60....miles an hours followed by a fireball explosion disintegrating it into flaming fragments.....

    "AAAAAuuhhhhhh uhhhhh uhhhh uuhhhhhh uhhhh"

Woman sings to a climax with a triumphal flourish.

  • Scene 1

    Dadadadadada (Star Trek suspense music)

Colonel James T. Trucktard sitting in his I'm-the-center-of-attention chair in the TOC at the FOB watching a giant TV screen of the disaster unfolding from a robot Predator UAV flying overhead...

  • "Trucktard date, 17 June, 2008. SFC Lemming has taken his Stryker patrol into a destruction ambush. He and his men are blocked in by barricaded cars and several of his trucks are aflame....none of our trucks can break through to him...yet he is a Soldier, they are MY MEN...I must do something, but what can I do?"

  • "Spock, analysis please?"

His XO, LTC Benjamin Spock ponders for a second then speaks; "That's the whole problem, terrain analysis was not done. Lemming should have used light M113 Gavin tracks along an unpredictable cross-country route to reach the warlord's compound"

  • Getting visibly agitated is the brigade surgeon, LTC "Bones" McCoy.

"Damn it Spock must you always be so logical??? Those are our men down there dying and you want to second-guess their actions?"

Spock: "If we do not understand how they got into their situation, reaction forces will just find themselves repeating the mistakes again and no one will be rescued"

    McCoy: "ROTC 90-day wonders!".

  • Trucktard: "Gentlemen, gentlemen, you both make good points. Now what are we going to do? We don't have any M113 Gavin tracks, Army headquarters has hid them from us so they can get the trucks some "combat" to deceive Congress into giving them more money....."

McCoy: "Buy more damned trucks to get our boys blown up on roads! Who is the idiot in charge?"

  • Spock: "the non-linear battlefield demands non-linear movement yet we are buying wheeled trucks capable of only LINEAR movement along roads that the enemy can approach beforehand from all angles andf lay increasingly large land mines"

McCoy: "Great Spock. You have described the military-industrial congressional think-tank complex's racket to a T, now how are we going to get them out?"

  • Trucktard: "How about we fast rope in and pull the out by hovering helicopter? What do you think Warrant Officer Scott?"

Chief Warrant Officer Scott in flight suit responds:

"Colonel we can't. Only 'Special Feces' gets to fast rope. We don't have the improved I-Bars mounted in our Blackhawks"

  • Trucktard: "Can't you hurry up and install them?"

Scott: "I'm afraid we can't. It'll take hours for some I-Bars and fast ropes to be flown in from the depot in the nearby port facility after the Air Force flies it in. We don't have anyone qualified to teach us how to slide down the ropes, the crew chiefs are not certified"

  • McCoy: "Damn it!! Can't you bend on the rules just once so we can get our boys out of there?"

Trucktard: "How hard is it to slide down a fat rope? Just don't let go? I remember doing it back at Air Assault school when I was a cadet..."

Spock: "Even if we took a team in, the helicopter would be a sitting duck to enemy RPGs as we hovered"

  • Trucktard: "I've made my mind up. We're going in. Get your medical supplies. Spock, get us a grenade launcher and smoke grenades. Lt. Sulu, I'm putting you in charge of the TOC while we are gone. Get me the coordinates of a clear open area where we can put down, so much for everyone in the 101st going through Air Assault school"

    The radio crackles to life.

    "Help...anyone hear me?"

    Trucktard: "Who is this?"

  • "Its Specialist Vanity. They are all dead, Sir."

    Trucktard: "WHO?"

Vanity: "the chain-of-command. All the NCOs have got themselves killed charging the ragheads. Only us non-rates are alive, three of us are wounded being drug by SKEDCO plastic stretchers. We are holed up in a house."

Trucktard: "Can you give us a grid coordinate?"

  • Vanity: "I can't read a map, Sir"

Trucktard: "You hang on, we're coming to get you."

    Gunfire echoes in the speaker.

Vanity: "Please hurry. If you don't get here in like the next 30 minutes don't bother fucking coming."

    gunfire drowns out Vanity's voice.

    Trucktard: "Vanity?"

  • Scene 2

A Blackhawk helicopter lands, Trucktard, Spock with the grenade launcher, McCoy with the medic's backpack and PFC. Patsy bringing up the rear. Scotty takes off and orbits overhead.

Scotty speaks to Trucktard by radio: "Colonel I have 15 minutes of fuel, after that You are on your own, I'll return to base and come back as soon as I can. I can act as a radio relay for ya".

Trucktard looks around, "Roger, Trucktard, out".

  • The tiny rescue team runs and guns to the outskirts of town and views the flaming Stryker trucks.

McCoy: "My God. What a scene."

Spock: "I think the men may be in that house off to the left. The rebels seem to be concentrating their firing on it."

Trucktard: "yessss....yesss...draw their fire til they run out, then MASSACRE them."

The team runs and guns towards the house.

  • Hey? dynmicpara! We've noticed your new video post. Deja vu! It looks just like this one.....I notice you have edited out all but complementary comments on your little show. Talk about a Fraud and thiefing Bastard. You really are a work of art....Certifiable.

  • dadadadada Star Trek suspense music....

As they reach the house, a rebel rushes Trucktard but Spock butt strokes him with his full-size M16 assault rifle and 40mm grenade launcher.

Trucktard: "I'm sure glad you didn't take the flimsy M4 carbine!"

Spock: "It was the logical thing to do seeing how we are out-numbered and likely to run out of ammo".

    Ping! Ping!!

McCoy: "Well they aren't short of ammo! Let's get inside!"

  • The team enters and finds Vanity the only one with ammo firing back.

Vanity: "Are we sure glad to see you!...ehhhhh sir".

Trucktard: "Don't get too appreciative we haven't rescued anyone yet"

Trucktard opens up his satellite cell phone.

"Scotty....this is the colonel, can you read me"

    Scotty overhead responds, "Aye, Colonel".

    Trucktard: "Where is our air-mech?"

  • Scotty: "The RAF says their Chinook is DOWN. I repeat their Chinook is DOWNNNNN" in thick Scottish accent."

    Trucktard: "How much longer?"

Scotty: "the Brits say they are workin on it. They say within the hour"

Trucktard: "We don't have a hour. We don't have half of one. We NEED THAT AIR-MECH, we got wounded men down here..."

Scotty: "you are breaking up, Sir I gotta geeeoooo now. I'll be back"

  • dadadadadada Star Trek suspense music

KABOOOM!!!!!!! an explosion rocks the house.

    Trucktard: "What was that?"

Spock: "I believe an RPG-16. Perhaps a pair of RPG-7s."

McCoy: "Oh great we know HOW we are going to die, how comforting"

Vanity: "Sir, the rebels have stopped firing. A man with a white flag is approaching, I think he wants to talk to us...maybe ask for our surrender? I'll go see"

    Trucktard: "Don't!!!"

  • Vanity flings open the door and the raghead with a white flag wearing a vest is in front of him.

McCoy: "Its a bomb! Get down!"

    KAAAABOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Scene 3

The dust from the suicide bomber clears.

    McCoy gets up.

    "My God we're still alive".

  • Trucktard had dove over Vanity, pushing him out of the way of the blast.

Trucktard: "we should all be dead".

McCoy: "Patsy is dead. He took a piece of shrapnel to his neck."

    Trucktard: "Damn it"

Spock: "I pre-detonated his chest bomb with a 40mm grenade shot, he was just far enough for my grenade to arm".

    Vanity: "That was close".

Trucktard gets on his sat cell phone: "Scotty, we need that air-mech"

  • dadadadada Star Trek suspense music

Firing continues but everyone is out of ammo.

    Trucktard: "Anyone got ammo?"

    Spock: "I'm out."

    Trucktard: "Fix bayonets".

    dadadadada Star Trek suspense music

Scotty comes in on the radio.

  • Scotty: "Sir, we are on our way. We will be there in 45 minutes.

  • Anyone who desires to know the truth about the M113 family of vehicles is advised ask questions on Tanknet and George Bradford AFV News.

  • The light tank (M113 Gavins etc.) is THE BEST choice and the ONLY CHOICE for armored mobility in CLOSED TERRAINS and the ONLY reliable movement means in open terrain to proof routes for heavier tanks. To oversimply and embed lies in a broad-brush is uninformed.

  • Its an APC, Armoured Personnel Carrier, like the old Kangaroo or the Bren gun Carrier. It is not a Tank. If you added a turret like the Scorpion 76, or Cockerill 90 it would become a light TANKETTE. But it is not a tank as deployed. The OZ Army tried that and found them too top heavy

  • I think that has been the mantra everyone else here is trying to get you to see. Again, we in the Army do not call the thing a gav!n. That is just you.

  • Exactly! dynmicpara, 2 & 3, really are from the lunie bin with their/his comments on the M113 being anything other than an APC.

  • If i wanted to go off road, i would take something realy mobile like NA-140 or BV 206. Or BVS10 if armour is needed. Unlike M-113 these have so low ground pressure that only anti-personell mines are set of by them.

And they can actualy move almost everywere.

    Also, these are helicopter transportable.

  • @sjumppanen So why is the Army not using these in mass? And would it be cheaper to up grade existing M113's to get similar capabilities then to buy a new vehicle?

  • You can't hide from the truth; try embracing it instead of wishing the truth messenger doesn't arrive because he's coming whether you like it or not.

I am this "messenger of truth" you speak of.

  • Obsolete? How old is the 113? You constantly preach about Viet Nam era technology and now you say something else is obsolete.

  • The 113 has a place on the battlefield. It is not THE best choice for all applications, to suggest so is uniformed. You are honestly saying that a 113A3 is more protected than an Abrams tank? (with or without TUSK)

  • No he doesn't intend to do that, he likes to think that M-113 can go around anything that would require additional armour. This is partialy true, but what he would do next is mystery to me, as one still needs to destroy the enemy.

  • The M113A3 Super Gavin light tank with underside armor and low ground pressure for cross-country mobility to AVOID mines is BETTER PROTECTED than a M1 Abrams heavy tank WITHOUT UNDERSIDE body armor that has high ground pressure that is restricted to rads where land mines await.

  • dynmicpara2 said "The M113A3 Super Gavin light tank with underside armor and low ground pressure for cross-country mobility to AVOID mines is BETTER PROTECTED than a M1 Abrams heavy tank WITHOUT UNDERSIDE body armor that has high ground pressure that is restricted to rads where land mines await."

Someone has been taking too many meds today.

  • It is invulnerable from everything below 7.62mm fire.

  • How well protected is the Super Gavin, let's say, against a near-miss from a 80cm HE shell?

Thank You in advance for Your response.

  • I call BS on this one. Is there a proximity that they went off in relation to the vehicle? I mean if 152mm shells went off two clicks away, that isn't saying much.

  • dynmicpara2 said "Several 155mm artillery shells linked together have gone off and not penetrated M113A3 Super Gavins in Iraq."

Not being an armorpiercing round, and all shrapnel......So What?

  • Youtube will function better when that fantasizing multi-personality Mike Sparks gets off of it and quits spamming it.

  • Now that is cross-country mobility with protection.

  • So the M113 NOT GAV!N is inadequate! As issued, it FAILS, by your own admission. (And adding armor NEGATES its so-called cross-country mobility!)

  • If it is keeping you from posting, then it is not malfunctioning at all.

  • been both is the past tense... so your no longer a 1LT chute packer in the army reserve? So that would make you a has been? or with no field time that would make you a never been?

So, why in your esteemed knowledge, did the improved M113 fail to protect its crew while driving Xcountry? your silence is most telling

  • So your a 44 year old Infantry 1 Lt in the Army Reserve... don't former NCO's become Capt within a few months of commission in the US Army? My Regiment has a number of US Army Allied units, which one are you with, or whom did you serve with? We might had done a joint ex together as we are in USA a lot to train

  • I have jumped with Canadian Paras during LEAPFEST and there may have been a Canadian armor unit at Fort Polk, JRTC when we were there. Ever been to JRTC?

  • That must be a very dysfunctional unit.

  • You can't hide from the truth; try embracing it instead of wishing the truth messenger doesn't arrive because he's coming whether you like it or not.

  • Speaking of truth, the M113 has not ever been referred to by anyone of merit as the Gavin.

  • OK, Sparky - I've sent you a copy of my CGSOC diploma to clue you in that I am who I say I am and know what I say I know from experience, both as an Armor NCO and as an Armor officer.

You say you have no time for "has beens or never beens?" Then, look in the mirror and decide to not have time for yourself, because a "never been" is apparently exactly what you are right now.

  • So Mike, you writing SpaceGavin fantasy now?

So, tell us are you really a long serving 1LT? What deployments did you do?? Bosnia, Panama, Iraq, Afghan... or the local PX? Also, you seen to ignore the fact that people are dying in M113's again (just like in Vietnam)

  • Vanity: "They are scattering!"

McCoy: "I hear engines....it sounds like TRACKS"

Spock: "M113 Gavins for sure....I hear T150 steel tracks and rubber pads and turbocharged diesel engines"

The cell phone comes to life.

A Dutch Lieutenant comes on the line.

"Kernel, have youra men move to de center of the building".

  • Vandervoot: "We had to rescue some school children a hostage situation few years back. We drove right on into the school and got the children out."

Trucktard: "Are you saying we are your children?"

    Both men grin.

The men rush into the armored track and the rear ramp closes up as they drive out gunning in all directions, busting through and over the chained, barricaded cars and finally leaving the city in the distance.
