I wonder if the prophet and his companions behaved like this? I don't believe they did at all! Do some research on the 'soofees' their beliefs, origins and practices and compare them to the quraan and sunnah and decide for yourself. May Allaah guide us all to the prophets sunnah, ameen.
If you mean singing the praises of the Prophet (PBUH), then yes, they did. There are a variety of narrations of different sahabas who would sing the praises of the best of mankind (PBUH). So yes, we are following the sunnah.
