This is a special sacred song that came to me circa 1972. We were all on the beach celebrating candlemas, but had no songs yet to sing. The Goddess Movement was only a year old, and we had no culture for it yet. I had the first two lines, "We all come from the Goddess, and to her we shall return, " and i waited for more lines. Looked down as the rain was forming little rivers, and flowed back to the ocean.

'Like a drop of rain, flowing to the Ocean". This song was loved from then on.

What I mean is that before the exicution of the Pagans, the Pagans and the Christains used to live to together and work together, however as the christains converted more people they tried to whipe out the image of the goddess and replace her with their 'virgin Mary'. So they do believe in her, they just dont know it. if that makes sense. ive been a witch for about six years, I know a thing or two, trust me.

@nickruffolo maybe mary was not really a virgin, but she was special, and a good symbol of motherhood - and the mother of a good man. I believe in her as just another aspect of the goddess. I was raised catholic, and she was a very strong presence in my childhood, which was great considering how patriarchal the church is.

@rjkieda I think that you are talking of a small sect of holy roller bible belt christians. Most people are more open minded, would entertain the idea of god being female. What bugs me is when I hear wiccans saying they don't believe in one god, that its impossible for the christian god to exist, then they turn around and put all their faith into deities that are just as unlikely. I think that if you believe in anything, I mean REALLY believe, then you must believe in all of it.

Before, I did not know either. I had no idea people used to honor the goddess before a Christian god. Then I found out and I went through a bit of an anger stage. Why wasn't I taught about the goddess? I felt cheated. Now nothing makes more sense to me than the concept of a goddess next to a god. I feel that paganism is the right path for me.

I feel the same way. When I was Christian, no one EVER talked about a female deity. I too, felt neglected as a woman, and when I found Wicca, everything fell in to place. =)

@mrscheshire maybe it was my catholic upbringing, where a huge importance was placed on the Blessed Mother - I never felt cheated of the feminine divine. In fact, I think Mary was just important as Jesus to all of us good little boys and girls. Even at a young age, I was skeptical of the whole virgin thing, but she was still a good symbol for women. I still keep images, statues of her, they have an important place in my home.
