I was in grade 12 when this song came out, it was only on air for a short time before it was pulled. There's a documentary floating around about Billy Thorpe and is a good watch if you want to learn about him. Some good memories of cruising with buddies and listening to this.

A great song to kick off the 80's. This song came out in 1979 and rang in an era of music that the world had never seen and was a good buy to the classics. This was the "Good By" to the revolution of rock.
this WAS the time and sound for kids in their early teens during the 70's & 80's. I remember buying this odd looking LP. it was the LP that this song came from.

All time great song! Love the guitar part @ 6:24 thru 6:27. As always I'm late finding out about things. Just found out that Billy Thorpe has passed away. What happened?
This sound takes you right back to those days, trapped under a blazing hot Sun, surrounded by far-out freaks who keep turning Purple and whisping off into space
like a slowly rising incense stick, wondering if they would ever return, or if you yourself was about to vanish as well. 6:46 minutes is only enough to serve as a travel brochure back , but certainly this little vacation was enjoyable. Thanks.
TKD, it WAS a song about beings from space. The album (which I had as a teenager) was a theme album about another race coming to Earth to save the remaining humans after their nuclear wars killed billions. All of the tracks on the LP were great. At the very end was a NON-related track that Thorpe did just for fun, called "In My Room." It too was kick-ass especially for an adolescent such as my (then) self.
P.S. I should have said at the end of the SECOND Album in the saga, "21st Century Man." I think though that when they re-released both albums, "In My Room" was omitted. Bastages.
I saw a UFO some years ago. That IS what the song is about. It was triangular with lights on two sides. Nearly silent but for 0:12 / 6:45. Not so loud but certainly the same buzz.
Xylobones00dgilbert is certainly entitled to their opinion, but i like to think billy thorpe is just one piece of a greater music era instead of always thinking "A vs. B" with terrific classic rock. modern "rock" groups can take a few notes from their predecessors.

this song came out in 1979 or 80 i believe. i was still in h.s. back then. i wouldnt trade growing up in the 70'sand 80's for all of today's technology. school sucks way worse for my kids now then it did back then. music today dosent even compare, and todays generation may think they party but we partied hardy.
@pjbmrad -" AMEN TO THT PAL! We KNEW how to do it and do it right. One phone ccall to one of our friends on a fir night and WHAM the whole gang showed at the spcified place ready to party and have fun. Those were the good times, fun times, enjoyable times for US the children of the 70' -80's."
@pjbmrad ...I feal your pain brother. We lived like fuckin ceaser. Today? Generation tampon? Poor bastards have been swallowed by the all mighty vagina, and the dissenters amongst them think sticking a cock in your ass is fun... helmets, seat belts, and japanese cars are to blame. CHEERS.
my old freinds in the 80s used to drop acid, turn off all the lights and lay on their backs while listening to this. I didn't do drugs but I was drunk by then...lol this was the first 45 record I bought! great song!
@xmikerinehartx chronic hemorrhoids to the ear lobe. almost went like ray finkel died of gonorrhea and rotted in hell. wanta a cookie :D theyre little children of the sun balls. nuclear reactions out :P
I'm only 24 and I agree with all you older folk. Billy Rules. I love you for this song Billy! And I'm sorry for calling you others old. Not many 24 yr olds even know who Billy is!

One of my all time favorite guitar entries. It starts all quiet and gets louder with the perfect amount of flange to make it fit.
