  • Great song. Nothing evokes memories good and bad as music. It's very powerful. Thank you for the good ones. :-)

  • I first heard this in an early 90s porn advert ^_^

  • love love love

  • I love you pandora for introducing me to them :')

  • @Beatlereviewer I love pandora for the Buena Vista Social Club, "Chan Chan"

  • The voice of an Angel.. Thank you.

  • He has such a pure, sweet voice. I wish singers of today still aspired for purity of voice, rather than complexity of music. <3

  • An interesting footnote to the percussion discussion. I read somewhere that the "shaker" we hear throughout is Gary shaking his keys while singing. And that's what it sounds like to me. A cool song and an enchanting recording after all these many years.

  • I love this song and im.14..... Wtf

  • I found this song from reading Stephen King's IT...well worth it.

  • This song is so calming and relaxing *sigh* I adore this song! :)

  • Thumbs up if you heard this song in the movie Stand By Me.

  • Still great after all the years nice to slow dance to.

  • I will probably get hated on for this, but there has been made an awesome remix of this song.. It featured in Elementality(a skatemovie of the finest) and thats where i heard it first.. both this song and the remix touch me as never before

  • mafia 2 ruuuule

  • Hi Nocaro,

My bad here! I spoke with mom and Gary this week. The sessions I spoke of were not where the actual recordring was done. As posted prior to my incomplete childhood memories, the recordings were at Joe Bowles' studio. The ones I was at have turned out to be practices. Thank you for your kind words. Paula

  • Thumbs up if u hear this song by Green Lantern or Mafia ll

  • Bonnie Guitar discovered and rehearsed this group, wrote the vocal parts , arranged and produced the record in a studio with engineer Carney Barton on the 5th avenue in downtown Seattle. This was not a home recording. I was about 7 years old when my mom Bonnie recorded this and the rest of the Fleetwood album. I would lay (very quietly) in the corner of the studio and half sleep while they did take after take to get the soft sound she was looking for.

  • @jerryy224 Thanks for the note and insight. I think your mom did an incredible job on this.

  • @jerryy224 bs

  • This here is true love playing and simple this brings out so many mixed emotions and memories. Elisa you will forever be in my heart even although things didn't work out in the end, the memories still linger :)

  • i've loved this song forever. funny enough about ten years ago i was at a rave and the dj dropped this song in and let it play, people were in awe

  • Fantastic

  • 50 yrs after it was issued "Come Softly to Me" still sounds Great today. The simplicity of the words, the way the vocals are arranged, just Great !

  • I don't know why, but I am such a sucker for love songs like this one.

  • Thanks to Green lantern

  • Song was in Green Lantern!!!!

  • The Fleetwoods recorded 'Come softly' acapella w/o any instruments. The backing was dubbed on later. The original 45 used a mono mix. When a later stereo 45 was issued, the same vocal track was used, but a slightly different instrumental backing with bongos was put on.

  • it's possible that two people shouldn't be allowed to play on their momma's computer

  • Maybe the most laid back song ever!

  • Excellent tune, very touching! Going to get Mafia 2:)

  • I'm here because I just love how beautifully lilting this song is; I've always had a love for this song, even as a teenager♥.

  • Gary went from being a session musician (trumpet player) to the recognizable voice of the trio, and in my opinion, the star of the show.

  • this is my favorite song ever

  • its a very nice song and i love the song and its even more good because the fleetwodds did this song before anyone else.

  • the guitarist played here at WNOX in Knoxville for awhile.Beautiful!Doesn't get any better.

  • What's Mafia?

  • @wannawatchu66 If you're wondering, Mafia 2 is a video game based on the 40's and 50's and there's a lot of great oldies you can listen too, this one is pretty good! :)

  • @moramar77 Thanks; I don't play video games...that's why I didn't know.

  • THANK YOU MAFIA!

  • black white man women shoes and black white tires---respect

  • MAFIA 2 GOD DAMN YOU!

  • Actually, the percussion was Gary Troxel shakin' his car keys. Billboard's 51st #1 hit of the rock era. God bless!

  • 2 people like to come very hard.

  • The percussion you hear may be the male vocalist shaking his car keys, according to what I've read.

  • me too wweleah shitz gangsta xv3 18st bitchez

  • I've always loved this song..heard in many soundtracks in movies over the years, it's nice to find it here. Ahhh it just came to me...they played this in the cool coming of age movie based on a Stephen King short story- "Stand by me"

Real catchy harmony...it's stays in your mind all day.

  • Oh my God they're from Olympia! I LOVE Olympia...

  • This is amazing, the tune and the softness in it criples my skin.

  • this is like a quiet, little moment from another softer, slower time...

    i loved hearing this

  • For me, this might be the most beautiful song ever.

  • Man i loved this in Mafia 2 :)

  • Thanks to Mafia 2 I'm now hooked on this song.

  • So......this was playing.....when I was born :)

  • @Garyhernandez Just spent 2 hours lookin for it

    Worth it--Great game--PSN ID marine9077

  • I heard this in Mafia 2 tonight while I was driving Joe when he got drunk at the lone star, I stopped my game after I saved it and went immediatly to this video, This is one of the coolest songs I've ever heard, its just so mellow, harmonic, and a sense of peace. 4.8/5 Stars!

  • This version was put out as an early stereo single release in 1959 on Liberty, which was the parent label of Dolphin (later Dolton) records, the Fleetwoods' record company. In 1975 United Artists had ownership of Liberty's material and put out a "Very Best Of" series. The release "The Very Best of The Fleetwoods" features this recording. Two my knowledge these are the only two sources of this true stereo version.

  • One of my all-time favorite songs. Just lovely.

  • Gretchen Christopher's song writing talent is underrated. Today she'd be a major influence in pop music..

  • nocaro- many thks for the posting I love the song & the Stereophonic Sound Recording as it gives my 7 speakers a chance to bring out the stereo separation.

  • I think some percussion was added. Originally, the only percussion was Gary rattling his car keys in his pocket. Now there is also that wooden sounding thing.

  • this a good song ^-^

  • just amazing

  • them back up singers sound like they are who's from whoville :)

    can you dig that? :)

  • did they add some percussion (sorry don't know the name of the instrument) - or did I just not hear it on the mono version??

  • It's quite possible this song may have been recorded twice around the same time since the sterophonic technology was so new many artists were returning to the studio to re-record songs they had recently had hits with...I wish I knew the whole story behind this, but it's a phenomenon surrounding many of the songs recorded from about mid-1958 to 1960.

  • It's also possible that the "percussion" you hear was added to an original mono vocal track.

  • @Nocaro your correct they recorded it twice ,stereo is so much better peace to u

  • The original hit recording did not have the bongo percussion added. Otherwise, its the same recording. The bongos were added in some later version. I don't know why or when.

  • @KauaiIsLove I have amended the title to "Stereo Remix" to avoid confusion over the "originality" of this recording.

  • @youvexme according to wikipedia "Recording the song at home, the group sang it a cappella with the rhythmic shaking of Troxel's car keys."

  • Is this version of the song back when they were known as 2 girls and a guy?

  • This is the original version that was a hit in 1959 under the name the "Fleetwoods"...it was also one of the first hit recordings in STEREO, which was a rather new phenomenon back in early 1959.

  • Great sound!!!.
