  • Well I don't realy do sand mixing experiments or aluminum casting in the kitchen. It's all done in a workshop. But I did get in trouble with her for robbing her mixer :-)

  • Your wife's gonna murder you when she sees her kitchen!

  • Found Bentonite Cat litter and Attapulgite Cat litter.... They are the same - i think -....

  • @halfmumi Hope it will work this time. The bentonite Cat litter sounds promising. Just remember go easy with the water. That’s the crucial part. Some people don't even want to hear about using cat litter. I always used oil bonded sand, the green sand was sort of experiment. It works very well for some type of castings. I made two aluminum plaques using the same green sand in my video. I will post the article soon on my site.

  • And your silica sand is totally different than what i have...i have white+blue crystals.

  • @halfmumi Silica sand have the same purpose as the playsand that I was using. You have to replace to a different type of cat litter that contain (Bentonite) clay not crystals.

Crystals are Extremely absorbent not suitable for greensand making.

  • @aharonstube Hmmmm...Problem solved. At least, For now... =) I might send a video response in the following days to show my process.. Thanx a lot. (=

  • i mixed with silica sand crystals(cat litter) with fire clay 50-60 ratio...how much water i need to use?it absorbing all the water almost... =)

  • @halfmumi Thank you for your comment, Making green sand is a very simple process. I dont see the purpose of adding fire clay to the mix. You need is good type of fine sand such as silica sand (after sifting it) or play sand like the one I used in my video. There are many types of cat litter. I dont think the one you are using (crystals) is the suitabe one for green sand. All you have to do is spay small amounts of water on the sand and clay (bentonite 10%) mix then make the sand "squeeze test".

  • @aharonstube You r welcome.I Loved ur site+following you in instructables as well, your site is one of my favo sites for my foundry project. =) Some people said that they mixed 50-50 fire-clay\silica sand. So i wanted to "follow" it.Yes, the "cat litter" is totally different..

  • Its solved..charcoal is added in some greensandmixes, but not for alloy castings! I find the answer in wikipedia. Its looks dark, because its usually manytimes reused,so thats why its dark or almost black.

  • @valic000 Thanks, Interesting learned something new.Good luck with your casting ;-)

  • perfect video! I like to try also a alloy casting for a crankcase of a modelengine.I read somwhere, that also charkcoal is also needed in low procents in the mix.Is that right and why?

    regards peter

  • @valic000 Thank you for your comment, To be honest I dont have an answer regarding the charcoal. I never realy had a need to add it to my castings.
