first off...why would anyone use a dinky little sponge to clean any surface..what a waste of time. Get a big old wash cloth - old worn out towels cut up work great - fill your sink with hot soapy water-dish liquid works great too, and away you go. Never mind the tiddly litte half assed whiping of the oven window-who cares!

If a guest is looking for a knife to carve the turkey or something, they might see your secret mail hiding place! lol Cleaning with a sponge is a very dirty habit. Use washable cloths that can be bleached in hot water. You can put baking soda in your oven and spray it with water, leave it over night, and all the crap wipes right off =-)

Consider recycling the glass containers after dumping the contents.

@prewary In many places it takes a lot more resources to recycle glass than it does to produce new glass. I live in Colorado, where water is in short supply. Before you can recycle glass, it must be thoroughly rinsed and cleaned (whether by you or the recycling company) and then melted down. It doesn't take any more energy to melt down new sand into glass than it does to remelt old glass.

@SnowyIceMountain: that's the thing, if you do this kinda thing pretty regularly, you don't HAVE a messy kitchen. I am the farthest thing from a neat freak, but say I get a paper towel wet to wipe something; unless it's completely worthless I continue you wipe surfaces to grab all the crumbs and sticky spots, etc. Simple, in the moment moves similar to this, and you don't have anything serious to deal with (except for the oven and fridge, which you just have to suck it up with)
