hey there, i work in petlands fish department and piranhas are actually chickens. If you can, i would suggest you feed them super worms that you would feed to reptiles. There very fatening and will help your piranhas grow quickly.
@lightwind108 They are a decent size now, but like you said very scary and almost not entertaining enough as a fish. But I will keep them and get something different next time.
my friend has these red bellies, it seems they are very shy if u are watching tank, but if u move away or dim the lights they start to bite at food, its strange that, i mean in my oscar tank he gladly takes food and never shy.
@tigeroscarfan Its very true, I knew they were shy, but not to this extent.. Now that they are older they really do hide and come out just to eat and then go back into hiding. But thats the nature of the fish.
@MoCTactics sounds like 'pee-ru-nhah' the 'nhah' is hard to explain, its a nasal sound and you do not use the tongue to make it, even more nasal than the spanish 'ñ' sound. Piranha is also a slang for s-l-u-t in portuguese. Anyway, posting this just out by curiosity, dont rate this comment as either nerdish or pathethic in any way please. Cheers!
Nice Felix, having an aquarium is great hobby of mine too. I got 4 nearly fully grown silver dollars (same family as piranhas but herbivors) and a bunch of tetras to co our the tank nicely. Love my fish, and when I lose one it's a sad day :(
can i buy it?
