@TheHonestGypo I do... Lots of people do. One can't brew a proper cup of tea in a mug; the proportions of tea (in the bag) to water are all wrong and the tea comes out bitter.
Besides, if one uses a good-sized pot then two bags will make an entire pot of tea. So it's cheaper as well as nicer tea. ;)
@TheHonestGypo You'd be surprised, I occasionally use loose tea leaves and a teapot, and I know others who do too. Loose tea is considered by some to make better tea than teabags, and a teapot's just convenient if you're making tea for more than one person.
@TheHonestGypo - Are you serious?! I don't have my own teapot (student budget), but I don't use anything but loose leaves for tea! If you want to know where to find nice leaves, go to Steepster for recommendations.
What I find interesting... is... I could have sworn these guys were in the middle of the blitzkrieg when this video was made... how is it... while they were stammering for help, they were making 10 minute friggen videos on making tea? Wow.
All these people are probably gone since it's a 70 years old video. Bravo ! Carry on with making the best tea people! We still make it like that in India except that it's made with milk from the start on the stove top. We cut up ginger and boil it in the mix. I make a mix of coffee/tea, usually green tea, ginger, bitter gourd and anything else i might want to add . . . like milk & black sugar.
Nice little film. I love a good pot of tea. But i'll stick with tea bags. No fuss or muss. I've noticed in all these 30's & 40's films that everyone {no matter of class} spoke in a more refined English. I wonder what happened with Britain today?
I've never seen a more thoroughgoing endorsement for coffee in my life.
During Operation Market-Garden, paratroopers of the U.S. 82nd and 101st Divisions were astonished to see the tankers of XXX Corps halt - for absolutely no military reason whatsoever - to brew tea. It was like some kind of religious ritual, and the Americans could not induce the Brits to keep up the operational tempo on that road to Arnhem.
Lots of dead British and Polish airborne and complete mission failure.
They stopped among other reasons (tea being one of them), was infantry support for the Tanks.
In My own military career, we stopped for tea on the first day of the advance into kosovo. An MP pulled up on his motor bike and asked what we were doing. "Having a Brew" was the answer. "No" he said, "what are you doing ahead of the Para's and Tanks drinking tea?" We hurriedly turned back, but not before we had finished our tea. We had to keep the British end up you understand...
@RichMatarese I do hope you're not in a profession that requires you to use historical fact. The American paratroppers witnessed the British drinking tea after Nijmegen. The real reason for the delay was lack of adequate infantry support, ammuntion re-supply and a lack of fuel. It just make a better story to pretend the British are so obsessed with tea that they'd stop in the middle of a battle.
I have a question for those who know how to answer. I love making loose leaf in a pot but I always make more than one cup so I can have more; however, if i leave it with the leaves I risk it getting bitter. What should I do? Does anyone recommend getting a netting/infuser for the leaves or should I just buy another pot to transfer the strained tea?
@sorsaria buy a tea-pot manufactured by a firm called Bodum, which also manufactures cafetieres. It works like a cafetiere because, when the tea is brewed, you can push the plunger down the infuser so that the leaves/bags will prevent the tea from over-infusing. They come in two sizes - I bought one for £10 in Sainsbury's catering for two cups. (I don't know where you live - I don't know if you have a Sainsbury's or similar shop). A bigger pot costs around £20. It's worth its weight in gold.
The Tea Dr. and the woman at 0.36 are classic examples of the stereotypical english accent. My grandfather was born in 1933, lived in a very upper class area and was sent to a private school, and he speaks nothing like this, it's just ridiculous really. I do like tea and still use a pot/tea leaves.
be aware of jingtea total rip of. has sent one unit of li shan tea for 50 g that was ok and when i ordered 250g they send totally bad quality, with different taste and totally bad leave quality and really bad rolling quality.
@portsanity excessive tea consumption can lead to bladder weakness and lethargy, it also tends to lead to a life centred around a kettle. you should consider cutting down a bit.
If any short was made for an MST3K riff, it's this one. I'm glad the lady taking the quiz at the end got all the questions right, otherwise "Mama" looked like she could have done some damage.
They would have been horrified at my tea-making. First fill electric kettle with water and turn on to boil. Next, put PG Tips teabag into cup and fill with boiled water. Wait about 4 minutes, then take out teabag and add a little milk. Perfect!:)
I have never so much as drank a sip of coffee in my life. I always warm the pot and the cup and I always use boiling water, I pour the kettle just as the it is at the peak of boiling. I think I'll have a cup right now!
