@panxoandleire It's impossible to download Street View pics without internet connection, so you will need 3G, 2G or WiFi. However, if you just want to check your position or trace a route, no internet is needed to using Google Maps.

can you still use gps (just gps, not google maps, street view or anything like that) with no internet?

ltes say I am in china, with no wifi or internet connection. does the phone tell me where I am on a map, or does at least give my position coordinates?

@pippuz1984 Google Maps is designed to be used with an active data connection (WiFi or mobile 2G/3G).

A lot has changed since I made this video a year and a half ago. Google Maps is still available from Google of course, but in early 2010 Nokia introduced a free version of OVI Maps.

OVI Maps can be used without an active data connection. You can set it up to download map and POI data ahead of time or sideload it from a PC. The user interface is not as intuitive as Google Maps, however.

nokia is dedicated more of a smart phone feature than a mobile pc like apple.. they both have downgrades.. nokia uses resistive touch screen technology and apple is capacitive touchscreen so they really differ..

you have to pick acces point wifi as default and add your nokia, after first run you have to pick this one or use option change connection - i have other lang. version so i am not sure how this is called in GoogleMaps on your version. Make sure than your gps do not use network support - turn it of - cuz it use network!

But i really recomand some pay monthly data plan to your nokia - you gonna get huge unstresfoul abilities like: Fring, Palringo, TrueCaller,

You must have an internet connection for Google Maps, and this isn't free to use (I'm getting this mobile in a few days with a call+sms deal, but no internet, so probably it'll be very expensive), but is the GPS that is a standard Application free to use? You get Nokia Maps software with phone, but if you want maps on memory you have to download it (free) via nokia software. Maps are available for most countries.

it has nokia maps but i think thers only a 80 day trial subscription to it. after that nokia rip u off! download garmin xt mobile onto it, theres a site on google if u search garmin xt crack nokia 5800. not sure wat the site is. its a complete tutorial to load it on and very helpful. garmin doesnt use internet if u dont want it too

It works slightly different from Nokia Maps, the map data for nokia maps is installed on your memory card that comes with the phone...

With google maps, as you move around you need to get new map data, so you need a data connection (WiFi/3G).

But the advantage is you dont need a license and contract fee to view traffic or directions :)

if u want to connect ur home one find the name of it(should be on the side of the router) click on it then, then click on opotions it will come up with several optins, you want to click on connect. if ur wlan is locked u will need to type in a : w-lan number which is also on the side of ur router!! once you have done that and it says that u are connected click on start browsing and ur internet should pop up:D

on the main screen there should be a shortcuts bar. the last symbol ( looks like a circle with blue rays coming of it with lines underneath it) that is ur wifi . click on it and should come up with any avaible networks, all you have to do is click connect or start web browsing depending on how strong the signal u may be able to pick it up before it says it is not available.

i don't get y u're not happy with 5800's internet browser..first it has 3.5G..compared to iPhone's 3G which is slower than 5800's 3.5G..second, 5800 supports flash so it is able to go to more websites than iPhone can...i guess u didn't know that..tho' 5800 does lack the capacitive touch..

It's god WiFi. So if you have a wireless router, you should be able to connect your phone to your home internet for free, or anywhere else when you're out and about that has a Wifi connection, such as mcdonalds, for instance.
