anyone considering this BEWARE: mice have an average of 15 babies per litter and can get pregnant again imediatly after birth. the babies can get pregnant at 5 weeks of age and they WILL if you dont separate the males from the females. this means that unless you have ALOT of reptiles, you will have ALOT of mice. and if they get out, well, its best not to think about it.

@extreamest1 it is because she was stressed or frightened . u should leave a mouse alone for a day after she gives birth because if she will gett stressed and eat her babys to protect them :) hope it helped :)) xD

I love the female Fox coated mouse(2 tone)..Shes very pretty..one thing most breeders dont know..They breed just to make money and give thier babies to snake owners and other reptiles but there is also a big market for rare mice such as Silks, Patched, Splashed and Lilacs..So many people dont think about the rare 1s..here in NC we cant find hardly any rare ones at all not even the common Black and White..people breed them so much just for food that they didnt think to save some be4 thier all gon

You actually put a water bowl in your cage rather than a water bottle??? To each his own and there is no correct way to do it, but I've haven't done that in over 30 year when I have an entire litte drown in the bowl. There are several different types of flow valves, I don't understand taking a chance like that. Good luck.

hey sup man you have a good video i have the same set up but for the birthing cages i use storage containers it works good for them and there easy to cleen.i have a to gallon tank just for my male breeder and i through females i there all the time with him.he is one ofthe best male mice i have used for breeding the last male i had when i breed him he would only get the females prego with from 3 to 5 babys and then i breed this new male with the same females as the old one and i would gt 10 babys

um i rlly dont think you should put the nesting moms in such small cages the moms get stressed and they need space to be away from the babies! you would have way better results if you put the nesting moms in there own 10 gallon cages. belive me i study rodent behavior for a living.

um i decided to try and breed mice and for a few weeks now the mice have been getting along fine with no problems but then i checked on them a min ago and the male was well eaten like they ATE his head all that was left of his head was the skull i was wondering if this was normal or what could of gone wrong and if i should try new females too or just buy a new male please let me know this is kindof weird imo

Was there another male in there 'cause i've never heard of females killing a male? You might want to check and see the genders one more time to make sure!You should only kept ONE male with 2-3 females!

This can happen if you don't feed your mice and they are hungry, the weak become food. Other case is like Naru said, there was another male in the enclosure, its not hard to see the males, they have Huge ones dragging behind them.

I have a few questions. How do you provide water for the mice if you keep them in a plastic container like the one Cartman and "his girls" were in? How long can you keep males (that are siblings) together after birth? Are metal, mesh (not the kind with rungs, but the kind with...open squares), exercise wheels safe, or should I stick with a solid plastic one?

I have one snake, and I wouldn't go through mice super quickly, (one mouse per week) so I could not leave them to breed constantly. What do you suggest I do with the male until I need to breed them again? Also, can you tell me about what percentage of a litter(?) is male?

the precentages change each litter it is hard for me to tell you that and if you one want them to breed every once in awhile seperate the male from the female till you want breeding to continue

Okay, just two more things. First, What size tank would the separated male need? Something like the small, plastic tank you showed? Second, if I have multiple females can they all (excluding the male of course) stay in the same tank if one or more is pregnant?

ok yes the small little critter carrier is fine for the male and technocally you can keep the females together but as a rule of thumb i do not do it personally i like to give them there own space with there babies but some people keep them together without issues because the mice will share duties on taking care of the pinks

Honestly i think the bill is just another bullshit proposel and is not going to go anywhere. But they might actually get to the point where you will need permits to keep certain snakes and reptiles i do forsee that happening sometime soon but a ban not a chance

ppl remember, healthy mice/rats make healthy reptiles. So if you want healthy reptiles which mike obviously does, because he feeds them good food instead of crappy dog food and takes care of them, its only going to make you reptiles healthy and they wont get parasites. By the way mike, if you can, dont hold the female pregnant mice by the tail, it can damage the babys inside i have heard of it happening. Finally i reccommend using lab pellets, they are cheap and healthy also the mice love them.

I breed mice and rats for pets and local friends that have reptiles[I do not have reptiles]. There is nothing wrong with feeding them dog food as long as the food isn't contaminated and kept in a good container. That is all the males get. Pregnant and nursing females get both that and a rodent diet mix. I don't know of anyone that has had problems when feeding there feeders and pets dog food...

Awesome! I don't breed rodents as feeders for my snakes because of the extra work and because my collection is still pretty small. Still though, very informative! It's especially a good idea if you've got a very large collection and you'd spend ALOT of money on feeders. I, however, am sticking to buying the rodents for now.
