  • she was great!!!

  • LEGEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • She must be one of the most elegant women in history.

  • No one else could have played this role. She deserved an Oscar.

  • Bette Davis also had the best and the most distinctive voice of all. Just love it.

  • How they could not give Bette Davis an Oscar for this performance is beyond me. She was fantastic. I watch this movie at least once a month.

  • -What will you have?

    B: A milkshake (: *disdain*

    -A martini, very dry please.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA /dies

  • Most Oscar worthy performance I've ever seen!

  • she is legit my idol, so inspiring....... !

  • Bette Davis the best actress of all times! :)

  • the dress is actually worn backwards. it was too small for her so rather than have a new one made and wait for it, she wore it backwards. it works!

  • "A milkshake?"

Good Lord, no one could do catty like Bette Davis.

  • @2legit64...Her dress was burgundy...beautiful! I also want to know the color of the gowns in those days!

  • Ohhh, Ms. Bette Davis's acting talent outshined Joan Crawford's even on her worst days - she's so natural, the lines and expressions make acting seem so effortless! I wish I had half the talent as Bette Davis, she's just absolutely remarkable! I do love her so much!

  • Love this movie. Eve was a piece of work. Anne Baxter was stellar. I think that Bette Davis was at her loveliest in this film and that party dress she wore was fantastic. I wonder what color it was.

  • i can quote all of Bette's lines in this scene!!!!

  • When i look at Bette Davis, I see Diana Ross. they're both Aries, along with Joan Crawford. And when I see Diana Ross she looks like Bette Davis; she evens acts and show similar manners.

  • One of my FAVORITE Films...EVER ! 1st) Gone with the Wind 2nd) All about Eve and 3rd) the wizard of Oz

  • A Milkshake?! LOL, Bette Davis, the legend!

  • Bette Davis- A girl with a mind, a bitch with an attittude, and a lady with class. We love you BD.

  • Meow. Hiss.

  • "A milkshake?" BEST LINE EVER!

  • I have always loved this move and particularly this scene. The subtext of Ms. Davis' mental battle with the chocolate is just brilliant acting. Brilliant!

  • @henrycaville Bahaha!

  • He reminds me of Rod Serling... I absolutely love her dress. I want one just like it.

  • I like how guys fashion is the same since the 40's 50's

  • I love how much she blink when eating the thing... What is it that she is eating?...

  • It's not Eve's fault she's YOUNG!!!

  • @marinello6 Why do you hate Bette Davis so much? I don't think one could really call her weak after she fought a big studio like Warner Brothers for better parts and won in principal. The movie she walked out on had to end up giving away dishes to get people to come to the theatre. But no one in entertainment is ever fully honest with the public and I'm sure she wasn't either. Her daughter became a born-again Christian and thats where a lot of animosity began according to reports. Forgive her.

  • @55kudu I actually am more angry at the public for putting Davis on a pedestal. If she were a Lesbian, no one would have gone to her movies. People give themselves and others more credit than they deserve. They all want to believe that they are superior and great. Patty Duke had a real battle. She is strong in my book. She was bi-polar and had her childhood stolen while she was used and molested.

  • @marinello6 I see. The public do turn many people into larger than life beings and many cannot handle the pressure. I agree, Patty Duke was remarkable. She had a lot to overcome and yet such a tlaented person. Have you ever seen her in the film "The Miracle Worker' with Anne Bancroft as her teacher. Unbelievable acting as Helen Keller. I guess what shocked me was the use of the "f" word towards Davis. I feel she deserves a little more respect than that but no matter.

  • @marinello6 That may be but are we talking acting ability or emotions due to a person's past? Just because someone had a tough life has nothing to do with the issue. Bette Davis was a brilliant actress. In my humble opinion people today use invalid reasons for lauding a person in view of artistic ability.

  • @Demelza1964 I think she was a very good actress and very compelling. I just do not believe that she had it hard. She lied to herself about that. She may have worked hard but did not know what hard was. She was very narcissistic and I feel for her daughter who is now in her 60s. I also used to like Marlene Dietrich but as I studied her acting, she was quite terrible. She too was compelling and original...which is different than being a good actress. Davis was a good actress and a myth.

  • @marinello6 It's very hard to actually judge who many of the great actors were because we do not know them except what they showed us, and stories by loved ones and others are always biased. It's believed that most of the classic actors like Elizabeth Taylor, Humphrey Bogart, Bing Crosby, etc etc were also narcissistic and terrible people. But if we start nitpicking them all, we take the enjoyment out of their talent and what they brought to film. Nobody is perfect.

  • @24fans4life I would like to see people stop idolizing people. There could be a person near you in your life that make Davis as a person look like a piece of trash. Speaking of trash, how many people really appreciate the men that take away their crap everyday in the heat, cold and the stench of it all? I wish people would not be myopic. Parents often praise children other than their own. This makes no sense. I do not want to feel things that are not real. I don't like corporate images.

  • @marinello6 i think you are being overly harsh now and starting to go on tyrants about stuff that is unrelated. I'm not trying to be insulting but it sounds like you have some underlying issues that is causing you to lash out. Bette Davis was an amazing actress and changed the world of film. Leave it at that. There is no need to deconstruct and judge every bit of her life, we all are flawed. How would you like someone to come along and decide that you are a horrible bitch? Didnt think so :/

  • @24fans4life Why leave it at that? I think that is one of the problems with the public. They like myths and let media decide who they are. People judge me every day and sometimes say terrible things...sometimes good things. Why should a deceased female from a by gone era of acting not be examined? We all have underlying issues...some are healthy.

  • @marinello6 ok i think i see what you mean. However, there is a line between examining someone's life and just plain bashing them. You dislike Bette but instead of looking at her life and actions objectively you're swearing and saying she's terrible. Those are 2 very separate things. Also, not everyone lets the media dominate who they are and what they think you don't want to over-generalize. I, for one, don't. And what are these "myths you are referring to?" *is confused*

  • @24fans4life Do you see that you are examining me to death? As far as Bette having it hard; if she were a Lesbian especially in that era, she would have known what hard was. You would have never heard of her unless she married and bearded herself with a fake heterosexuality.

  • @marinello6 ok what does being lesbian have to do with this at all? And I'm not examining you to death at all i know nothing about you. I'm merely trying to point out that instead of studying her life and work objectively you are just spurting hatred everywhere. If you want to examine someone's life, yeah you can have an opinion, but if you want people to respect and listen to what you have to say you need to respect who you are talking about.

  • @24fans4life I mentioned "gay women" because life is mostly luck and most people refuse to acknowledge this because it proves the of lack of control in life. If Davis were gay and it was known, she would have been shunned not revered.

  • @marinello6 again, though, bette was not a lesbian so that is irrelevant to what we are discussing. and i know some people believe in luck but im a religious person so i dont believe that. but this isnt a religious discussion either. im just trying to say that you should be fair. it doesnt matter whether other people are or arent. if you want others to judge you fairly you should be fair as well

  • @marinello6 Of course there were many Hollywood lesbians in the past, although many traditionally married. They say Marlene Dietrich ventured in that area from time to time and she is very androgynous in her films. Someone read Ava Gardner's book, and I don't know if it's true, but they told me she loved to go down on Lana Turner. That would have been a sight to see. LOL Rumors to that affect followed Greta Garbo and Hedy Lamarr as well. But of course, homosexuality was a Hollywood taboo.

  • @marinello6 Sorry to keep bothering you. Go to youtube The Miracle Worker - Water scene. I'm watching it right now and the moment of realization is one of the most beautiful pieces of drama ever filmed. Watch it my friend!!

  • @55kudu AGREED! I own the DVD!

  • I've been describing people as loose characters all week. damn this movie is too quotable for it's (and my) own good.

  • bette davis eyes

  • This is pure acting. Pure.

  • "I don't think that is funny"

Bette's bracelet comes undone as she crosses her arms.

  • (Not trying to be offensive but...) Bette Davis was the "HBIC" of her time, it's like she was the real diva! She exuded Fabulosity! She had pure talent, she was intelligent, and beautiful, graceful and elegant!

  • A rat poisoned milkshake please.

  • 7 people had milkshakes

  • @jenniarzate Bahahaha!

  • "Some snowy night in front of the fire...." LOL!!!

  • One of my favorite scenes from that movie, Bette looked fabulous and boy did she let Bill have it! She knew what that slithering cobra was up too!!

  • watced this the other day i swear to god i understand the oscars now

  • I'll have a dry marti too

    thank you

  • Love you Bette. Margo Channing. Bravo

  • I like the multiple checks of the candy dish.

  • one of ms. davis; best performances. one of the top 10 female roles in history. i love and miss bette.

  • "As it happens, there are particular aspects of my life to which I would like to maintain

sole and exclusive rights and privileges." I love this line. Few playwrights would use such an academically splendid line like this for their plays.

And Bette's diction is amazing. She enunciated each word better than any other actress.

Bette was a replacement for Claudette Colbert; I think she was the very best replacement in the history of Hollywood films.

I love all about Bette except her smoking.

  • I watch these clips every few weeks. She is great in this movie. Truly deserved an oscar.

  • I watch these clips every few weeks. She is great in this movie.

  • This is my favorite movie (and it was my first Bette Davis film)! I love Davis; her performance is beyond outstanding! Not just in this film, but in her entire career! And in every single interview she's done, you can tell that acting, performing, was her heart and soul! No one today can hold a torch to her. This woman inspires me so much. This is why I love classical hollywood (the golden age). They were truly about acting. What we call acting today is merely technological enhancements.

  • Brilliant film. Amazing writing and acting!

  • Comment removed

  • I love how she tries to resist eating that bon-bon but in the act gives in :)

  • This is one movie I could watch over and over again.

  • Love, love her now that's what you call a movie star

  • why doesn't people write scripts like this anymore :(

  • @ayayayhuet

I second that emotion! Sad that most movies today are written with immature viewers in mind. This classic proves that a movie doesn't have to overflow with blood, gore, explosions, special effects or gratutious sex & violence to be entertaining!

  • superb acting by Davis.

"I'll get it, What'll you have Eve ?"

    "A milkshake ?" lol, that's so funny

  • bette was never sexier than in this film. wow/

  • LOOOVE that dress

  • i love this scene!

  • "Cut!!! Print it!!! What happens in the next reel? Do I get dragged off screaming to the snake pit?" LOL

  • She is so stank, I LOVE IT!

  • I watch this clip over and over. I have the video and just love it. BD deserved an Oscar.

  • Oh Il ove her sooo much. this movie is great, my all time favourite

  • WHY ISNT THIS MOVIE ON YOUTUBE??

  • Until I saw this movie I never understood what Kim Carnes was singing about in Bette Davis Eyes............Davis conveys a range of emotions though those eyes unlike most other actresses before, during or since her time!!

  • @Shakeshack78 What a wonderful comment to bring up Kim Carnes exciting hit and juxtapose it with the iconic one herself. You are so right, there will never be an actor (I don't like the term actress, it's like Smurfette to me!) to contain what she possessed. It's not me saying it... she is the most iconic Figure in theatre. Whether she appeals to one or not is not important. It is a fact. She is the gauge that all must aspire to achieve. Carnes hit on the early MTV brought her back in style!

  • @55kudu I was around 13 or so when Carnes' hit was out and I had little exposure to Bette Davis at that point. But when I finally did...............OH! I totally understood the lyrics to the song. Even in interviews, and not acting, Ms. Davis had a fire & vitality about her! She had a great life despite all the personal issues.

  • THIS IS A BLOOMIN LEGENDARY FILM, WITH AN ACTRESS WHOSE STYLE AND PASSION AND SHEER POWER IS SADLY DYING FROM THE SCREEN AND WE ARE LEFT WTH A MASS OF BARBIE DOLLS. ANYONE WHO CRITISICES THIS HAS NEVER BEEN AN ACTOR OR BEEN IN THEIR COMPANY, THIS IS A SHADOW OF WHAT THEATRE PEOPLE CAN BE WHEN THREATENED OR INSECURE X

  • favorite movie.

  • "A milkshake?"

    The snarkiest...so wonderful

  • I remember seeing earlier posts where people questioned the authenticity of the language; i.e., "do people really speak like this?". In response to this question, try to keep in mind that the characters are actors who are from the upper class, as are the writers, and they have the luxury of using the most appropriate words (in the English language) befitting the situation. Remember, this is "Drama." If you listen, the "situation" is relevant in most peoples lives today, i.e., we can identify.

  • Davis is good but when the guy that plays Bill talks I find I can't listen to him, my mind wanders

  • Haha, the people who are writing negative things about Bette here are brave, stupid but brave! :) The character she is playing is a campy lady - hence why she is being over-dramatic, duh! Lets face it, she could act Kate and Joan under the table and then under the floorboards! Love her! 'I doooont think that's funny!'

  • @iamwinkyful I don 't think she's being over dramatic. I've known many women who get much more dramatic when they get upset.

  • i drink your milkshake... i drink it up

  • @islandwalk oh my god i love you

  • This is my favorite Bette Davis movie. The performance she gave really kept me on the edge of my seat. She was nominated 10 times for an Oscar throughout her career and only won twice. She should've won more Oscars, especially for this performance.

  • @supermanXL Yes, and no. This is a theatrical piece; however, like now, people's background and education vary, so expressions and utilization of the English language did and still does vary. I love it! Sounds like adults talking, and I get exactly where Bette's character is coming from.

  • I always thank Claudette Colbert, who had been originally cast for the role of Margo Channing and was replaced by Bette Davis due to her illness. This is Bette's signature role. I could not imagine how another actress would have played it. Bette was 42 or 43 at that time but she glittered as much as Anne Baxter. Her dress and hair style are what few women could imitate today.

  • @Operalover12002 I think Bette's age fit perfectly for the role. I couldn't imagine her as a younger or a much older Margo Channing. I like seeing actresses from Hollywood's past when they're in their mid-late 30's and early-mid 40's; there's something about age that adds to a certain role to make it a grande performance

  • She should have had oscar's for those eyes!! Amazing clip from a great film

  • did people talk like that

  • @supermanXL with a writer-director like Joseph L. Mankiewicz they did; it was a more theatrical type of dialogue than the naturalistic dialogue that has been around since the late 1960s

  • @markcosborne It very hard to follow what they were saying. It didn't seem natural

  • 4:28

  • lol @ milkshake. What a bitch LOL

  • Most beautiful woman of the world, Ms. Davis

  • What a dame... she has nothing on Joan Crawford, but I certainly think don't anyone else can compete with her past that.

  • @HisEminence16 Oh yes totally agree! I adore Joan!

  • Margo thinks Eve's mikshake brings all the boys to the yard.

  • @vclxrr - lol

  • this scene is just incredible. take a look at her non-verbal which speaks volumes just as much as the exquisite dialogue this movie possesses. simply great performances by everyone. what can you say about Bette?! NOTHING...amazing.

  • under search put Alfred Lewis Bette Davis and you'll see the effect this film has had on me!......LOL....leave a message if you like it

  • if you like this check out what i do....under search put Alfred Lewis Bette Davis.....i like the show with the blue background better.....it's Margo Channing as a stand up Comedienne!....LOL

  • The best movie in the world, priceless!

  • My single favourite acting performance in history. I think it's highly unfair to discredit a screen legend like Bette Davis because of her mannerisms; acting has changed, no doubt, but there was once a time when they were valued (and I fail to see how her acting is repetitive). One can prefer Katharine to Bette, but they remain comparable - a feat for both of them.

  • I wish she was my mom...

  • @gabbis, no kidding me too!!! BD was an ass...I totally agree with you though lol

  • I do agree that she is overrated a bit in my opinion.

  • @2:57-4:09

In my opinion, the most stunning performance of all time. Ftw.

  • a milkshake? Love it

  • A milkshake?

    FABULOUS

  • Fasten your seat belts!

  • Mmmm.. Cigarettes, martinis, and chocolates....Man were those the days!

  • There are so many tiny, brilliant affectations by Miss D in this scene. Love the finger tapping before she pops the chocolate, the eye reaction to "paranoic."She's just perfection.

  • I personally think Bette is the sexiest here, so damn sarcastic and stubborn with that attitude...It's marvelous to see her so hott in her great comeback movie...God I love her!!! =)

  • Love her and this movie <3

  • lol Bette Davis is so funny when it comes to sarcasm mode, indeed one of the greatest actresses of all time.

  • 2:58 sexy Bette!

  • love bette davis :)

  • beautiful hair as well

  • EXCELLENT!

  • would you happen to know where i can watch the whole movie?

  • @luname82 if there's one film i recommend is worth buying on dvd, it's this one :-)

  • I think she should have won for Mr. Skeffington, Little Foxes, Now Voyager, & What Happened to Baby Jane I LOVE BETTE DAVIS

  • "For instance what? For instance: you!" Absolutely cool!

  • omg, google subs are ridiculous!! auhhauhuahuahauhuahuauha

  • Happy Birthday Miss Davis. What a woman!

  • My immortal Queen! RIP Bette!

  • if you like this check out what i do......alfred lewis bette davis under search.....it's kind of funny i think....i think you'll like it too

  • THE BEST ACTRESS OF ALL TIME. Period. This film NEVER gets old to me..and there's always something new to pick up on. One of the best films ever written. The dialogue is absurdly witty and effortlessly delivered by the players. A classic to say the least.

  • she looks so tiny.

  • great to see her acting with hubbie.

  • Fantastc!!!!!!

  • Bette at her finest

  • Damned good film.

  • 'A milkshake?' Love that line XD

  • eve evil... little eve!!!

  • i love thelma ritter

  • Can you imagine the crew and the director of this movie witness such a performance??

  • Some snowy night in front of the fire

  • Was that chocolate she was about to eat at 1:44?

Seeing that makes me crave for some chocolate now.

  • Davis should have won another Oscar for this performance.

  • @jkfromcincty To me she was the best all time actress, even better than Kate Hepburn.

  • @jkfromcincty Bette davis should have won an oscar for every performance she has ever given!!!

  • @jkfromcincty

I would given it to Gloria Swanson. Both Norma Desmond and Margo Channing are iconic though.

  • @jkfromcincty

I think she would have won if Judy Holliday ("Born Yesterday") and Gloria Swanson ("Sunset Blvd") hadn't been nominated that year. The late great Davis is at her BEST here! And to think that she was a last minute replacement for Claudette Colbert (who couldn't to the picture due to a back injury). Classic stuff all the way!!

  • @JubalCalif I found that out a few months ago. It's hard to believe that Bette Davis was Margo Channing's understudy. That role was made for her. I honestly can't imagine anyone else in that role.

  • This is my favorite movie :]

  • Now that's acting.

  • i need to finish this movie

i really do like it i just havent been able to finish it

  • jajajajj a MILKSHAKE lOVE THIS MOVIE

  • is the best film of mrs bette

  • i want her dress

  • thank you so much chando! :)

  • Please someone respond if this movie sounds familiar - the PLOT:

Girl stoweaway on train, hiding in the cabin of an officer of the military. She fools him of her age? He invites her to his base and then they get separted but eventually reunite.

    Sound familiar?

  • A MILKSHAKE! I love it

  • "the only thing I ordered by mistake is the guests"- CLASSIC

  • I must admit, I liked this. It was surprising when Eve came out as a villain. So unexpected.

  • "The only thing I ordered by mistake is the guest." I love this line and sometimes make it into a parody: The only thing I chose by mistake is my job!

"All About Eve" best portrays the glamor of the great actress. Thanks for uploading this scene. And I love to see Thelma Ritter play the role here. I wonder if she was adept at homemaking in her private life as she mainly played the roles of housekeepers and secretaries.

  • A Master Class!
