I don't know whether it would be viable but have you thought about getting 1 or 2 bee hives happening-pollinators a swell as honey producers...maybe when the rains come you can start a little farm shop with online exports of honey??
Interesting to see how much effort is needed for water conservation down under - here in Europe, well Wales anyway, it's not a problem but it does get too cold/wet sometimes. Keep it up, love the vids.
How are the chickens doing. If you have enough apples next year you could make cider . You could sell surplus to friends . I know if I had apples which I will have one of these days that is what I'll be doing.
Cardboard, cardboard..I'm telling you that stuff is awesome for holding in moisture. I use several thicknesses(they have to be well watered initially. Then just put a thick layer of mulch over the top. I live in the desert, and during the hottest part of the summer, I usually only have to water every 2 weeks.
If you can find a big enough container for it, try unhooking your shower, your kitchen sink, and your washing machine from your waste line, have that all drain into a big container. Have the container elevated and a spigot at the bottom, and hook a hose to it, it's a great way to gravity feed water to plants.
This is great and very timely with bare root planting time coming up. I have just finished digging the yard area where I want to put the dwarf and miniature fruit trees I have ordered. Soil is clay here so put down gypsum. Do fruit trees have a liking for any particular type of soil? Look forward to seeing the followups thanks.
That runner grass is terrible stuff hey, I put some in a dark sealed container full of water to try and make a fertiliser out of it, opened it up 6 months later and the bloody stuff was thriving in there, argghh! Any advice on ways to get rid of it, and then kill it / recycle it?
I'm working on a recycled chicken coop (found 5 doors last weekend!) and was throwing all the grass pieces that I just took out of my new veggie garden into the space where the chickens will be. I figure if it starts to grow in there they'll eat it. Right?? Any chicken care and chicken coop updates would be appreciated. Also, how's Queenie adapting?
you betcha, they will eat that grass down to the nubs, the acid from their poo will kill any grass. If you can build a "chicken tractor" it's a fantastic way of clearing spots for future garden areas. Pigs also work great for uprooting stumps!
You headed into winter, I'm headed toward summer. My night time temperatures are just climbing out of the 50 degree F range, tomatoes can't go into the ground yet, but we are coming along. I'd like to see the updates on the fruit trees and if you could touch up on espallier (sp?) training of fruit trees. Thank You

Show us how to prune fruit trees. I know I have no idea where to cut or how much to cut or what time of the year to do it. Thanks!
